Spit Mask: Splatterpunk offensive (the raw way I like it), Spit Mask is about a “brain sick,” PCP-smoking inmate who wants to rip out his intestines literally and metaphorically. This little book was put out by Benzo Monroe/Creative Destructive Press with permission by the now passed Bill Bomkamp. The prose is as slick and slangy as a mashup Orwell / Hunter S. Thompson, but more accessible in its modernity and obvious irony. Each tiny chapter reveals a new degenerate: pedophilic doll creator turned businessman, a suicidal divorcee too depressed to do the dirty work himself so pines for a murderer, a wiggery meth-head who watches the insane and simply drooly for money. Their stories slowly converge. Martin the wannabe murdered gets into watching ISIS type beheadings and the like, yet makes sacrilegious paintings of the Arabic terrorists. Meanwhile, the Japanese entrepreneur is interviewed/insulted about his toddler s*x dolls.
There’s a lot of disclaimers about the racism but there’s really not that much. More so some stereotypes which exist because the characters are based on real (bad) people, like the founders of certain fe**sh companies or religious cults or domestic terrorists. More so extreme acts of violence against people in a mentally disabled home. People have no problem with general murder stories and these things really happen so, while it is truly unsettling, it is truth and should be printed. The point is that it’s all amoral but also all nothing in the grand scheme of themes, so do with that what you will. I get a bit confused at the NA**LA conference where two gross friends are conversing about casual atrocities like amputee fe**shes and local news stories about be*******ty and sacrifices. Yes, this is an “edge lord” buffet, but it definitely gives you crazy cults to look up later and surprisingly a few laughs about nacho cheese and childish graffiti. The most subversive happy ending you’ll ever hear.
