RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer scored twice and set up a third goal for a stunning 4-1 victory at second-placed Borussia Dortmund on Saturday that all but killed off the hosts’ slim title hopes.

The result left Dortmund nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, 4-1 winners at Freiburg, with six games remaining.

Leipzig, who tightened their hold on fourth place on 48 points, struck against the run of play when Laimer chipped the ball over keeper Gregor Kobel in the 21st minute to shock the first sold-out crowd in the Signal Iduna Park in more than two years.

The Austrian then made it 2-0 nine minutes later, putting his side firmly in control of the clash

Dortmund were poor defensively all evening and looked like conceding every time Leipzig drove forward.

What was to be a big football party for the hosts, with top striker Erling Haaland in the starting line-up and in front of 81,000 fans, turned into a nightmare when Austria international Laimer added a second with a deflected shot 10 minutes later.

Frustrated Dortmund, who had a couple of golden chances early in the first half, could not find a response after the break.

Christopher Nkunku, set up by a Laimer backheel, completed a superb Leipzig attack to make it 3-0 in the 58th.

Dortmund’s Donyell Malen reduced the deficit with a far post header but it wasn’t enough

Spaniard Dani Olmo netted the final goal of the game firing an unstoppable shot into the net

Substitute Donyell Malen managed to briefly cut the deficit in the 84th with a header at the far post.

Leipzig then responded two minutes later with Dani Olmo’s well-placed shot from outside the box to seal an emphatic victory.

Marco Rose’s side end the day nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, while the statement win puts daylight between fourth-placed RB Leipzig and their challengers for the Champions League spot as they move three points clear of SC Freiburg in fifth.

Will Smith’s upcoming film Fast And Loose is put on hold by Netflix as fallout continues from Oscars slap… after he resigned from the Academy

Will Smith‘s upcoming film Fast And Loose won’t be going into production anytime soon after Netflix put it on the back burner.

The streaming giant has moved the 53-year-old actor’s project to the back burner in the wake of the controversy from his shocking Oscars slap, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film had already lost its intended director prior to Smith slapping comedian and presenter Chris Rock at the ceremony, further complicating the film’s path to being shot.

Screeching halt: Preproduction on Will Smith’s upcoming film Fast And Loose has been put on hold by Netflix in the wake of his shocking slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars; seen March 27

Fast And Loose was originally to be helmed by Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, but he had withdrawn from the project just a week before the Oscars.

A source told THR that both Netflix and Universal had been competing for a new project from Leitch, but the traditional studio appealed to him more than the streamer.

Following the loss, Netflix started urgently searching for a new director to take over on Smith’s project.

After Will Smith shocked audiences at home and in Hollywood when he slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards, Netflix opted to put his film on hold.

Thousands of protesters demand the Government tackles the cost of living crisis

Thousands of protesters across Britain including Jeremy Corbyn today demanded the government tackles the cost of living crisis.

A Downing Street protest today saw around 100 people, among them former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, waving signs which read ‘tax the rich’ and ‘freeze energy bills, not people.’

Demonstrations were staged across the nation, including in Belfast where campaigners called for every household in Northern Ireland to receive £1,000 to help mitigate the increasing costs of fuel and food.

Protests also happened in cities including Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Cambridge, Coventry, Derby, Doncaster, Glasgow, Hanley, Hull, Ipswich, Lancaster, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Preston, Redcar, Sheffield and Southampton.

At the Downing Street protest in central London, demonstrators made speeches asking for energy bills to be frozen and benefits to be boosted.

Protester Isabella Fula, 17, from north London, said the rising cost of living was ‘a huge problem for many people.’

She said: ‘A lot of people that I know are suffering from it personally, and a lot of people that once lived in my area have now moved out due to raising rent and energy bills.

‘People aren’t earning enough to support themselves and buy food, or even pay for bills which are increasing by the minute.

‘I’m here to protest the rent and the rise in it, and try to aim for a better tomorrow.’

It comes after Cabinet minister Brandon Lewis said the government cannot ‘completely nullify’ the impacts of pressure on energy prices, but it will offer support where possible.

Mr Corbyn said that this comment shows the Government is ‘out of touch with the reality of people’ facing poverty due to the cost of living.

He said: ‘I think it’s a very out of touch statement from a Government which is pretty out of touch which the reality of people as well.

‘I’m meeting people who are terrified of the next bill, so the very least we need is a price cap on energy, and then we need to say, well look at the profits of energy companies and look at the difficulties of people living.

‘I was in a food bank this morning talking to people there that don’t want food that they have to cook, because they can’t afford to turn the gas and electricity on to cook it.

‘This is the 21st century and we’re the fifth richest country in the world – it’s simply wrong and the Government must intervene.’

Unions have said that Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s spring statement last week did nothing to combat fears about soaring fuel bills and rising inflation, with the TUC calling for an emergency budget to help families.

And Friday’s lifting of the energy price cap has created an ‘impossible choice for many’, to heat or eat, said the People’s Assembly, who coordinated today’s protests.

A spokesperson for the campaign group said: ‘Public outrage over the cost-of-living crisis is growing fast, and our response is gaining momentum.’

Mr Lewis had spoken to Sky News when he said the Government cannot ‘completely nullify’ the impacts of global pressure on energy prices, but ministers will put in supportive measures where possible.

‘I know, even this week, where I live we’re on oil-fired heating, I’ve seen that change directly in the price of oil – and actually the ability to get it,’ he said.

‘At home, my family went a few days where we had no oil, just waiting for the suppliers and seeing the very big increase in price on that.

‘We can’t completely nullify the impacts of the global markets and global pressure, for example, on energy, which is obviously the main focus at the moment for most people.

‘But we will put in the support that we can, as and when we can, as I say, looking… across the board at what we’re doing with the public’s money.’

Laura Pidcock, national secretary of the People’s Assembly, who spoke at the Liverpool protest, said: ‘What people are experiencing is intolerable.

‘No matter how patiently we explain that Government inaction over soaring energy and fuel costs and sharply rising food prices is deepening poverty, misery and hunger, it is met with at best indifference and at worst more of the same.

‘The truth is they are so wedded to the economic system we have, comfortable with a hands-off approach, that even when markets are obviously failing us, they continue with business as usual.

‘We tell them about children going hungry and the Government shrug, politically speaking.’

Labour has repeatedly called for a windfall tax on oil and gas companies. It says this could generate funds to help struggling families and pensioners with energy bills.

Mr Lewis told Sky News that such a levy may sound like ‘an attractive option’ but it ‘won’t necessarily have the impact on global prices that people think it will’.

‘I do understand why people look to that… Labour have been making this point for a while. What they’re not able to answer… is the reality of what is happening in the energy market,’ he said.

‘First of all, this is a global pressure, we’re seeing this around the world. So what we do with companies here in the UK won’t have the impact of changing the whole global energy market prices, but we should also remember that those energy companies here in the UK are already paying about 40% tax – that’s roughly double what most sectors in the UK economy are paying.

‘They employ hundreds of thousands of people in the UK… they are investing hugely in more work to develop more energy and produce more energy. They need the income that they have to make those investments, and the part they play in the economy paying salaries.

‘So a windfall tax on those companies won’t necessarily have the impact on global prices that people think it will. It can have an impact on some domestic prices by taxing higher a sector that is already very, very highly taxed.

‘So although… it sounds an attractive option, in the wider economic context it doesn’t really work. And that’s why we’ve looked at what can we do that will have a beneficial impact directly for people in their pockets.’

Meanwhile, shadow transport secretary Louise Haigh said Labour would put in ‘legislative measures’ to ensure oil and gas companies did not pass the cost of a windfall tax on to consumers if necessary.

‘I think we do need to see legislative measures if North Sea oil and gas companies, petrol retailers, are experiencing record profits and not passing any of those savings on to customers,’ she told Times Radio.

Further protests are being planned by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) in the coming days after the sacking of almost 800 P&O seafarers.

On Friday the Insolvency Service announced that it has launched formal criminal and civil investigations into the circumstances surrounding the redundancies.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said there were ‘clear grounds’ to detain P&O’s ships.

QPR are set to pull the trigger on boss Mark Warburton after some poor form

QPR manager Mark Warburton is on the brink of losing his job following their 2-0 defeat at Fulham.

The 59-year old has been in charge at Loftus Road since 2019 and though a popular figure, results in recent weeks have seen his side drift to ninth in the Championship table with just one win in their last six games.

Despite that, QPR are still only three points behind sixth place Blackburn and the club hierarchy believe a change can help trigger an upturn in form and revive their play off hopes.

QPR boss Mark Warburton is on the brink of the sack after just one win in their last six games

Their 2-0 home loss to Fulham means they have won just one game in their last six matches

They are expected to make their decision over the next 24 hours.

QPR’s latest disappointment was a 2-0 home loss to Championship promotion-chasers Fulham on Saturday afternoon, with Aleksandar Mitrovic at the double to seal another win for Marco Silva’s side.

It was a comfortable victory for the Cottagers against their London rivals, with the Serbian netting a strike in each half – the second from the penalty spot.

The result means QPR have now lost three successive games – with the Fulham loss following a 3-1 home loss to Peterborough and another 3-1 defeat away at Nottingham Forest.

QPR are still in touching distance of the play-offs and believe a change can boost their hopes

Their only win in the last six games was a narrow 2-1 victory at suprise package Luton Town, who are among the pack chasing promotion.

Warburton has been with QPR since May 2019, winning 54 of his 142 games in charge – but also losing 54 and drawing 34 games.

The club finished mid-table in 13th place in the 2019-20 season, before securing an improved position of ninth the following campaign in 2020-21.

This season they have been in contention for a play-off spot but their recent poor form has dented those hopes.

Speaking after their Fulham loss, Warburton refused to criticise his players and instead vented at the decision to award the away side a penalty late on.

Former Rangers boss Warburton has been in charge since 2019 but is under huge pressure

‘We rely on good decisions,’ he said. ‘The linesman hasn’t given it and it’s given by an official with a hard view and surrounded by players. That decision killed the game, it killed our momentum, and they have what seems from the outside a comfortable 2-0 victory. We keep getting apologies but I would far prefer we got given the right decisions.

‘The fans were getting behind us, they saw us on the front foot and I felt another decision didn’t go our way today, that type of decision, at that stage of the game just kills it. It gave Fulham some breathing space and again today we have been the recipients of another poor decision.’

‘I am so frustrated for the players. We had a tough February and March, and had a good, honest chat. We came into this game in confident mood because we trained and prepared well and were looking forward to the encounter. Now we have suffered another very, very poor decision.’

Sharon Gaffka suffered a ‘painful’ breast cancer scare aged 19 while her mum was finishing treatment

Sharon Gaffka has revealed she suffered a ‘painful’ breast cancer scare aged just 19, while her mum Linda was nearing the end of her own treatment for the disease.

The Love Island star, 26, admitted that despite the ordeal being a thankful false alarm, she is now on a mission to encourage others to regularly get checked up.

She told The Sun: ‘I find that young women or anybody, there’s a stigma about checking your chest or some who find it weird. So I want to take that stigma away.’

Shock: Sharon Gaffka has revealed she suffered a ‘painful’ breast cancer scare aged just 19, while her mum Linda was nearing the end of her own treatment for the disease

‘So, for me it was really important to raise awareness because if I didn’t know what to look for, and I didn’t know what was abnormal or normal for me, then had it been something more sinister than it ended up being, I could have been in a lot of trouble because I couldn’t spot the signs early.’

The reality star had discovered the lump in the area between between her breast and underarm, however it soon turned out to be scar tissue.

Claiming she ‘didn’t know that was a potential spot’, she continued: ‘So knowing how quickly my mum caught on that she wasn’t well, kind of pushed me to go check myself, so I went to a GP pretty quickly.’

Phew! The Love Island star, 26, admitted that despite the ordeal being a thankful false alarm, she is now on a mission to encourage others to regularly get checked up (pictured with Linda)

Fortunately, her doctor explained her how body was trying to fix an injury, which led to the solid lump of tissue, which was ‘really painful, even just to move around’.

Sharon previously opened up about her shocking experience of being left barely breathing after having her drink spiked while having lunch with her friends.

She hit her head on a toilet and was found wedged behind a locked cubicle door after her drink was interfered with while out celebrating one of her friend’s birthdays.

The influencer said two male paramedics attended but passed her off as someone who had been ‘over drinking’ rather than a victim of spiking.

Candid: She said: ‘I find that young women or anybody, there’s a stigma about checking your chest or some who find it weird. So I want to take that stigma away’

Sharon, who appeared on this year’s edition of the ITV dating programme, has collected more than 1,000 testimonies for the Home Affairs Select Committee as part of an inquiry into spiking.

Speaking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the reality star said she has had her drink spiked on ‘five or six occasions’ since the age of 18.

She said, on one occasion, she was spiked with M**A but most recently a ‘date r**e drug’ was put into her drink when she was out for lunch with friends celebrating one of their birthdays soon after the first lockdown.

By 7pm that day, Sharon was taken to hospital after passing out in a cubicle and hitting her head on a toilet.

She told Good Morning Britain: ‘I think we can recall exactly which drink it was and I can pass myself as quite a responsible drinker, I know my limits.

Awful: Sharon previously opened up about her shocking experience of being left barely breathing after having her drink spiked while having lunch with her friends

‘I don’t tend to wander off after I’ve started drinking and things like that, so the fact that I had been gone from the table for ten minutes was alarm bells to my friends and they remembered that we had gone to the toilet together but I never came out.’

Sharon said her friends went into the bathroom to find her and, after receiving no response, managed to pick the lock to the cubicle door with a pound coin.

She was found ‘wedged between the door and the toilet’ inside the cubicle before the paramedics arrived.

Host Richard Madeley said: ‘But the paramedics basically said ‘no, no, she’s had too much to drink, she needs to go sleep it off’ so it wasn’t taken seriously, was it?’

Sharon repiled: ‘No. I think for me it was that two male paramedics arrived to look at me.

‘I think maybe the NHS and paramedics do have a lot of incidences where people have been over drinking and then, you know.’

Sharon said the hospital she was taken to did not test for drugs in her system, but she was advised a week later that she should have gone to the police to be tested.

‘But, I know what I’m like when I’ve been drinking,’ she added. ‘At this point, I couldn’t tell you where I was, I couldn’t tell you my name, I could barely stand.’

Scary: Sharon said two male paramedics attended after she collapsed but passed her off as someone who had been ‘over drinking’ rather than a victim of spiking

Plane with two people onboard crashes in the English Channel after taking off from the UK – sparking emergency air-and-sea rescue operation

Piper PA-28 was in a group of aircraft heading to resort in France on Saturday

Emergency services say ‘It crashed into British waters for unknown reason’

An emergency air-and-sea rescue operation was underway in the English Channel tonight after a plane with two people on board crashed after taking off in the UK.

The Piper PA-28 was in a group of aircraft which was heading to the northern France resort of Le Touquet on Saturday morning.

‘It crashed into British waters for an unknown reason,’ said a spokesman for the French emergency services.

‘British Coastguard launched an operation supported by French aircraft and boats including the Abeille-Languedoc (Languedoc Bee) tug, which has been chartered by the French Navy.’

By 8.30pm in France, there was no sign of the occupants of the plane, who have not been identified publicly.

Those travelling in small planes such as the Piper PA-28 are usually equipped with lifejackets and a life raft.

While the plane may have sunk in the Channel, rescuers are accordingly hoping to find the pilot and passenger on the surface.

The PA-28 is a two or four-seat aircraft built by the U.S. firm, Piper, as a trainer, air taxi, or for personal transport.

It has been in production since 1960 and various models have been involved in a number of high-profile accidents in that time.

In August 1972, Prince William of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, was killed along with his co-pilot in a Piper Cherokee Arrow after crashing on take-off from Halfpenny Green, near Wolverhampton, during an air race.

Steven Gerrard warned his Aston Villa stars they are playing for their futures after overseeing three straight defeats for the first time in his reign.

The former England captain was furious with his side’s first-half display in their 2-1 defeat at Wolves, accusing his players of lacking the required mentality for a derby.

Jonny’s early strike and an own-goal from Ashley Young meant Wolves were in control at half-time while Ollie Watkins‘ late penalty could not inspire the comeback Villa fans craved.

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard was unimpressed with his sides 2-1 defeat against Wolves

Wolves captain Conor Coady managed to get one over on fellow scouser Gerrard on Saturday

‘We never turned up from the first whistle,’ said Gerrard. ‘You can’t turn up for a local derby at half-time. We were second best and gifted Wolves two goals.

‘We decided to have a war with Wolves after 70 minutes – 70 minutes too late. At the moment we are looking like a 45-minute team and that is on me.

‘I’ve got to fix it and I will fix it. The players here have to help me now for the next eight games and if not, we’ll get players who will help me fix it. We can’t give gifts. I don’t remember another team giving us a gift whereas we are giving away very poor goals.’

Gerrard handed a start to Leon Bailey after deciding not to select Danny Ings, whose partner gave birth in the early hours of Saturday.

He acknowledged that this result ended Villa’s hopes of overhauling Wolves, who are now 13 points clear with eight games remaining.

Gerrard’s stars were second best and he has insisted he’s prepared to rip up his current squad

Wolves manager Bruno Lage was proud of his players and expressed his delight at full time

Wolves boss Bruno Lage added: ‘In the first half we dominated everything, with the ball, without the ball.

‘We should have scored more goals and 2-0 is such a dangerous scoreline in this competition.

‘As we saw in our last game against Leeds, if you give a chance to the opponent they can turn it around and win the game, so this is an important win.’
