For more than 40 years, BTC has invested in Junior Achievement. Our hard work continues to pay dividends as we help to create a brighter future for The Bahamas. With Independence just days away, I wanted to share some of the awesome work that our achievers are doing.

Achievers Nyah Seymour and Bailey Poitier stopped by the office to officially present their prized board game, Island Tycoon to our BTC team. This is a completely localized board game, with all Bahamian landmarks and game pieces. Trust me, it’s a must-have collector’s item.

Last week, we also presented the Ministry of Social Services with Island Tycoon boards for all of the children’s homes in the country. The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd.

Our Deputy Chairman and board members toured our Grand Bahama facilities. I was particularly excited to show them one of our HCI containers, that you can see in the background. This is one of the ways we are making our business more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

These containers eliminate the need for a brick-and-mortar central office, and operate on a solarized solution, reducing our reliance on commercial power. They also had the opportunity to tour our employee campus which was completely renovated and reopened last year. The Bahamas Telecommunications Company

It’s official. Through a collaboration with our team and the Ministry of Social Services, we now have a 3-digit child abuse hotline, 711. I am so proud of our B2B team who rose to the occasion to make this a reality. Partnerships like this are near and dear to our hearts.

Last November, our parent company, Liberty Latin America took a strong stance on Gender Based Violence, and we launched our own global policy.

As a company, we stand against violence in all its forms, and we pledge to do everything in our power to educate, prevent, protect and support against gender based violence in our companies and our communities.

I enjoyed the inspiring opening by Prime Minister, Philip Davis, Office of the Prime Minister - The Bahamas welcoming attendees to Crypto Bahamas and opening the doors for new industry and future of Fintech and Crypto in The Bahamas. As a friend of the environment and a good corporate citizen, we’re committed to doing our part to invest in our planet. One of the ways we’re doing this is by taking steps to reduce our reliance on commercial power by going green!

We’re rolling out Green containerized central offices in several islands including Grand Bahama, Abaco and Ragged Island. These containerized solutions have solar rays and an internal generator that provide independent power, reducing our reliance on commercial power.

Our iVolunteers also visited the Bilney Lane Children’s Home today, and refreshed the vegetable planters that we donated as part of our Mission Week activities. The kids are learning how to eat healthier and how to take care of the environment at the same time.

Meet my new friend, Zion Morley. I had the privilege of meeting him last week as I spoke with the children of the Falcon Boys Club in Grand Bahama, on the topic, “You are not insignificant”. This is the future of The Bahamas, and may I also say – the future of the world.

Zion is a 6th-grade student and is a prefect at the Lewis Yard Primary School. No one is insignificant, and as a proud CEO, I was happy to share with these kids.

We also presented all of the kids with treats, and the top 10 with mobile devices. Zion took home a brand new iPhone 13, as the top student of the club. I love opportunities like this to do my part to help shape the future of our youth.

On Monday, we traveled to Ragged Island with our partners from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. We are so proud to be of service to those that serve and protect our country. Our flight on the RBPF caravan not only allowed an aerial view of the beauty of our islands but also the massive job the brave men and women of the RBPF have to protect over a thousand square miles of that our archipelago spans.

We want to thank the entire team led by, Captain Carlon Bethell Commander Communications Branch, and Senior Lieutenant Lystra Bastian Executive Officer Communications Branch, Lt. CDR Byron Brown: Southern Command Base Executive Officer. Force Chief Petty Officer Ezra Cash Project Manager RBDF Special Projects.

And the flight crew, Lieutenant Delron Mitchell Sub. Lt. Brian Young, Petty Officer Andrew Adderley, Leading Seaman Adrian Knowles, and Leading Woman Marine Kennellis Gibson who was our female co-pilot. Another great example of women on the move in The Bahamas.

It was totally refreshing to have so many members of our leadership team back in the office for the first time in over two years! So much nostalgia. Today was just a dry run, and we’ll be back to the office officially in a few weeks in a completely refreshed, refurbished and redesigned modern space. Looking forward to collaborating with colleagues in person.

Last week, I proudly joined in the celebration of our Safer Internet Day Video Essay Competition winners who were awarded over $2000 in prize money. Our winners in the primary category included Yasmine Hanna, 6th grader at St. Anne’s School (1st place), Anwar Rolle Jr., 5th grader at Sadie Curtis Primary (2nd place), and NaQuaysha Scott, 5th grader at Bertram A. Newton Primary (3rd place). For the junior category, Antonyche Roker, a 9th grader at Aquinas, took home the first-place prize.

Congratulations to all our winners and continue to spread the Safer Internet Day message!

It feels great to be supported by such a strong team! Today, I’m proud to have the CEO of LLA, Balan Nair and my immediate boss, Inge Smidts on the ground. We also have some of our senior leadership team members from our neighboring Caribbean markets. We’re touring some of our fiber to the home buildouts in a few communities and meeting some of our employees who deliver great experiences for our customers every day.

I love visiting the small island communities across our archipelago and spending time with our amazing team members who support our customers every day. This was my first visit to Bimini and snapping this pic in front of the Bimini Big Game Club a world-famous location that welcomes thousands of anglers from the Florida who check in as their first port of landing into The Bahamas.

Enjoyed catching up with former CEO Leon Williams and celebrating the life and accomplishments of Keith Archer, a giant of a man who represented the workers of BTC and ZNS as the former BCPOU President and Senator in the Government of the Bahamas.

I look to bring Keith's tremendous spirit and passion to work each day, where his legacy will live on.
