My recording setup so far for the debut album from
So proud of how far these fellas have come in such a short time, and canāt wait to show the world what weāve been cooking up!
Back in the studio today finishing up bass, just vocals and some extra layers of guitar and sound design to hit after that!
Hellga is here to give you emotional support and encouragement while we get some great takes. š¤
Send over your demos! I want to hear what youāre all working on.
Opened up a ton of space in the control room for recording activities! Swipe for ābeforeā pics. šļø
Got rid of the last bit of the very first studio desk I ever bought. Over the years I slowly stripped it down to make it smaller. Nearly a decade later now, Iām finally saying goodbye to it. (for now, until I build out a second roomā¦ š«£)
I picked up a small rolling desk that I can get out of the way when doing things like tracking or critical listening. It also stands up, which is super cool! No more sitting for 8+ hours straight!
This will also let me utilize the control room space better, as Iāll have a lot more room to set up microphones.
Looking forward to recording some heavy songs in this space.š¤
Run it up!
Hey dudes! The new single āMessage to Myselfā is out. Id really like to give a shoutout to everyone that helped us with the release.
Samuel Nelson Painted this awesome cover for us and he is the man
Smoking Nun Recordings Recorded/Produced/mixed the entire song for us

Thank you everybody we are super stoked on this one and hope you all love it!
Hit these fellas with a presave! We are way stoked to get this one out in the airwaves. š¤
šØANNOUNCEMENTšØ
We are very excited to announce that Message to Myself will be out December 10th at midnight!
We would also really like to shoutout for working with us every step of the way to make it what we heard in our head.
Back on team with the acquisition of this octo satellite. Itās been almost two years since I sold my twin, so happy to have access to these plugins again!
Watch your f*king vocal edits! Make sure the phrasing is hitting with the timing of the song right and especially make sure not to cut off any extra stuff at the end like sneaky āSā or āPā sounds! Breathes are good to keep too but only if you control them right (i.e automate/clip gain them). And remember - If it aināt tight, it aināt right. š¤
The BiG āStereo Image Bigger Makerā arrived today. Excellent craftsmanship from the fine folks at
This thing is worth it for the bass switch alone - which is essentially the same circuit as the SPL IRON mastering compressors āair bassā switch, as far as I understandā¦but the control over the stereo field is unlike anything Iāve ever used. Iāve never seen a plugin or piece of hardware out there that does what this thing does. Truly remarkable.
Iāll be getting much use out of this on a daily basis, I do believe. š
Only 2 slots left in my 500 series rackā¦what should fill it?? I think I already know what willā¦š
If it aināt tight it aināt right
Hit me up for production, recording and mixing work. Booking now for October/November - end of year
Added an extra layer of analog summing to the rig! This 4x2 will be used to send subby stuff around the bus compressor to avoid pumping the mix when things like sub drops hit. Thanks for the fine craftsmanship all the way from Hungary, !
Today's session was a blast!
I appreciate you all so much!
Iām giving away free recording advice on my business insta - let me know what you struggle with and Iāll give you some key things to consider!
This week's blog post is less of a "guide" like my other posts, and more of a metaphorical story I created from various situations I have encountered in the studio over the years. I hope this is helpful to some of you out there who have the tendency to get locked up under pressure while working with an artist in the studio!
If this post was helpful for you, please give it a share and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Some of the best pieces of advice I have gotten from great engineers I was able to assist or intern for all revolved around keeping a cool headspace in session. The quickest way to de-rail a session entirely is a shift in vibe. A producer's role isn't just getting the record done, it's getting it do...
Have you ever tried to get an internship at a recording studio, only to be turned away everywhere you look?
So many people end up feeling like this is an impossible endeavor - sometimes getting discouraged and giving up on their dream completely.
As an engineer who has interned, assistant engineered & held positions as an in-house engineer - Iāve learned a few things about internships over the years...
Hereās the thing - most good recording studios will get hundreds of emails a year from people hoping to intern for them. A good chunk of these emails never even get opened. Many people never even get the chance to show their worth to the studio theyād like to intern at.
I wrote this guide to help you break through the noise and get the studio of your dreams to notice you. Hopefully, if you follow these steps - youāll be able to land the internship youāve been hoping for!
To the young, shiny-eyed aspiring Audio Engineer interested in interning at a recording studio - this guide is for you!
Looking to get your foot in the door at a recording studio as an intern? Hold up! Read this first...
It is way too often I see shiny-eyed, aspiring engineers try time after time to get an internship, only to get turned away at every studio they contact. Even after finishing a four-year audio degree...
Once defeated from rejection, they'll often make claims like "There just aren't any real studio internships anymore."
I'm sorry - but that's simply not true. There are plenty of studios who are running feverishly day in and out to keep their operations going.
Many of these studios need help.
Because someone has to make the coffee.
Someone has to clean the toilets.
Someone has to run to grab lunch for the band while they're putting everything into getting great takes.
Someone has to wrap all the cables, keep the console clean, calibrate & maintain the tape machine, keep the mic locker organized...
But, at the end of this list of daily chores awaits the skilled engineer who will be glad you helped, and willing to share their knowledge with you.
If you'd like to be the one who helps - be sure to read this upcoming blog where I break down my TOP PLAYS for contacting studios and landing internships.
Mark your calendars.
"The Recording Studio Intern Survival Guide - Part 1: Landing Your Internship" will be published on October 17th, 2020.

PLUGIN REVIEW: Auto-Align
This plugin has been ESSENTIAL for getting low end punchy, mids crunchy, and the top end shining bright. This indispensable tool works quickly adjusting phase relationships between multiple mics. This allows you to address the phase issues and get your tracks sounding crisp together before applying ANY other processing to the mix! It is my first step for every mix that I do which features sources with multiple mics (99% of the mixes I do). Use this plugin to adjust the phase between all your drum mics, guitar/bass di + mics, or anything else that may need an adjustment!

Spent my Sunday this past weekend learning how to use 3D modeling. Here is a sidecar up-facing 10u rackmount I designed! There is also a 2U space at the bottom which will house a drawer (because we always need more storage in a studio.) Planning to start the build this week! Whoās interested in seeing progress updates? Who would want to download the plans for these if I made them available?
Stoked to have mastered this awesome fusion tune by the talented Josef Shahwan!
A good buddy of mine remixed my Jazz Fusion tune and forced me to pick a name for it as well. The Dude's phenomenal. www.alexcutlermixing.com/ for my buddy Alex www.deviantart.com/sparrow1394/artā¦us
The Peavey 5150 is a timeless classic that is surprisingly more versatile than what people give it credit for. Yes, it does the thing that you expect from it - crushingly heavy guitar tones - BUT if you dial the clean channel in right it becomes a clean pedal platform that gets super loud with clarity left in tact! Suddenly this legend of metal and hardcore becomes a recording machine for indie, punk, and shoegaze projects. Never selling this thing! š¤

IR pack from @sonicassaultstudios Phil Pluskota won this mix! @infernium_slc tracked live together in the studio. The band used their own amps, running out of load boxes. The versatility of this IR pack allowed me to find two IRs that complimented each of the tones used on the way in. Great work Phil! You can grab this pack from @modernmetalsongwriter š¤
