Instilled with a deep sense of service from her childhood, she started Operation Hope, a mission of mercy. On this Kashta, coming Thursday we feature the indefatigable Sheryl Mairza. Sheryll"s whole life is built on the concept of giving - constant giving to people she doesn't know, but who are most helpless and in need. Sheryll began her journey of philanthropy with Operation Hope, an organisation that tries hard to help the poorest of the poor who are either forgotten or ignored by the authorities. And she does this with the help of a kindred community, a strong group of volunteers, who give their time, their efforts and their money to help in this mission of mercy. In this episode, Sheryll will speak about her home country, the USA, the warm welcome she received from her Kuwaiti inlaws, her journey as a philanthropist and about the importance of volunteering and giving. The sixties, seventies, and eighties was a time of renaissance in Kuwait. The sleepy, laidback port town that had been chiefly dependent on trading, fishing and pearl diving was reaping the benefits of the discovery of oil. In 1962, Al Sabah Hospital, the first grand hospital built by the Ministry of Health, opened. It treated patients from Kuwait and other countries in the Arabian Gulf. In 1966, Kuwait University, the first and oldest University in the Arabian Gulf, was established. Kuwait was home to some of the best literary magazines and published work in the region. It became a center of literary and theatrical arts and scored high with a free press. Around this time, a similar renaissance was taking place in the built landscape of Kuwait. Among the Kuwaitis who led this renaissance was Sabah Mohammad Amin Al Rayes, a young Kuwaiti civil engineer who had recently graduated from Indiana Tech in the United States in 1965. Sabah Al Rayes is one of the first generation of Kuwaiti engineers who lived through the urban development of Kuwait. In the beginning, as an employee of the Ministry of Public Works and then as Founder of Pan Arab Consulting Engineers (PACE), a leading architectural consultancy, he contributed to the change that was taking place in the architectural narrative of Kuwait. In this special episode of The Guest Show , we celebrate Kuwait's National Day featuring one of her great sons. In this episode, Sabah Al Rayes speaks to Chaitali B Roy about a not so distant past, the changes that made Kuwait what it is today and his new book "The History of Architecture and Engineering in Kuwait".It's a special Radio Kuwait presentation. While working with the oil industry, he mentored many young Kuwaitis who went on to play leading roles in public service. He has also served as an Advisor to the Amiri Diwan. Four decades ago ,he became associated with the DAI and over the years, he has represented the Al Sabah collection at many prestigious forums. Mr Al Baijan who is an alumnus of the University of Toledo and the University of Glasgow has led an eventful life m.
