Too young, too old, or just a woman?

Ever noticed how men are allowed (no… encouraged) to age peacefully but women aren’t afforded the same privilege? A 30 year old CEO is too young… if they’re a woman that is. A 50 year old woman is too old to be wearing a dress like that. “Like that” possibly meaning, too short, or has some cleavage showing perhaps? But a 50 year old man with five buttons undone on his shirt? Urh !!! What a s*xy man !!!

Grey hair? A man’s a silver fox. A woman’s an old hag.
Wrinkles? Aged like a fine wine for men. GET SOME BOTOX…for women.

Ever noticed that 50-something-year-old actors are getting cast as the romantic lead of movies against women less than half their age? And then we have women in their late 30s portraying the role of mother to men who are older than her in real life? Yup, this s**t happens. Take a quick look at IMDB.
If you’re looking for a term to make sense of this double standard, I’ll help you. It is called gendered ageism.

We’re back ONCE AGAIN, trying to figure out What the f**k is up with the world, and this week we’re talking about the media’s reaction to the deaths of Brianna G**y and Nicola Bulley, as well as Sam Smith’s treatment from the media. We’re discussing how Facebook creates an environment for bigots to thrive, whether women can just wear normal clothes and do their job (apparently not, according to the D*ily M*il), and discussing the disgusting amount of victim blaming that continues to be pushed by the media.

Disclaimer: we ARE NOT here to speculate or play cluedo about any of the deaths mentioned in this episode. We are here to speak on the media’s disgusting response to real life traumas.

It’s difficult to know what to say in the face of a tragedy like this. I’m sure many of us are angry, and rightly so. Brianna G**y was only 16.
This is the inevitable result of the rampant transphobia across the press and social media, no doubt about it. Transphobia doesn’t come from nowhere. These attacks don’t just happen.

We unfortunately live in a time where transphobia in the media is routinely platformed and congratulated. A safe space has been created for transphobes to do what they like. People see their friends and family laughing at Sam Smith online and think that behaviour like that is acceptable. They see our government stripping trans and non-binary people of their rights and are comforted by the fact their country agrees with their hatred.

Next time you think about mocking q***r people online, in front of your kids, in the pub…think about what happened to Brianna G**y.
Your actions have real life consequences for trans people who are just trying to live their lives.
Rest in peace Brianna G**y 🏳️‍⚧️

Ok it’s my turn to reintroduce myself…s**t! I’m Cassie (she/they) and I’m the other co-host of FTTB. I’m 25 now which terrifies me lmaoooo. I’m an award winning s3g educator, student nurse and cat dad. I live in Liverpool with my gorgeous girlfriend and after my degree I plan to continue my education and train to be a s3g & relationship therapist whilst I work as a nurse, hopefully specialising in trans and non-binary healthcare.

Fu**in hell, it’s been ages since I’ve written one of these! If you’re new here, or you don’t remember my face, I’m Sam and I’m the half of the podcast that (still) lives in China! Last time I introduced myself on here it was for the launch of the podcast and I was 28, and now I’m 31?? How bizarre that we’ve been doing this for this long??

As for an update on my life - still here in China? Yep. Still a bicon? Absolutely. Do I still blog? Lmao no. Do I still bang on about butt plugs and how they changed my life? At literally any given opportunity.

I can hand on heart say that right now I am literally the happiest I have ever been, and that is only going to get better and better, because “Everything ALWAYS works out for us. ✨”
