At least 44 people have been killed and 150 people hospitalized
At least 44 people have been killed and 150 people hospitalized following a stampede around midnight Friday in Israel at Mount Meron during Lag BaOmer festivities, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.
Among those injured, at least 23 are in critical condition, officials said.
The Israeli military said it sent 6 helicopters and 250 ambulances to aid in rescue efforts. Hundreds of people are still waiting Friday to be taken away from the scene.
"The Meron disaster is one of the worst disasters in the history of Israel. We mourn the dead, our hearts go out to the families of those wounded, to them we wish a full recovery," Prime Ministry Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement Friday. "We have seen here heart-breaking sights, people who were crushed to death, including children. A large number of the fatalities have not yet been identified, so I ask you to refrain from spreading rumors in social media because this is too hard for families.
"Let the authorities do their work. I have to point out here the speedy rescue effort of the police and the other security and rescue organizations, we are grateful to them. Their work prevented an even larger disaster. We will conduct a thorough investigation so such a disaster will not happen again. I declare Sunday a national mourning day," he continued.
The MDA said helicopters were sent to work with ambulances to bring victims to Ziv Hospital in Safed and Galil Medical Center in Nahariya.
Lag BaOmer is an annual celebration on the anniversary of the death of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, who was buried in a tomb at Mount Meron in northern Israel. The festivities include pilgrimages to bar Yochai's tomb and lighting bonfires and celebrating throughout the night.

Covid Cases In India!!!
India ordered its armed forces on Monday to help tackle surging new coronavirus infections that are overwhelming hospitals, as countries including Britain, Germany and the United States pledged to send urgent medical aid. In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said oxygen would be released to hospitals from armed forces reserves and retired medical military personnel would join COVID-19 health facilities.
And where possible, military medical infrastructure will be made available to civilians, a government statement said, as new coronavirus infections hit a record peak for a fifth day.
"Air, Rail, Road & Sea; Heaven & earth are being moved to overcome challenges thrown up by this wave of COVID19," Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Twitter.
Modi on Sunday urged all citizens to get vaccinated and to exercise caution amid what he called a "storm" of infections, while hospitals and doctors in some northern states posted urgent notices saying they were unable to cope with the influx.
In some of the worst-hit cities, bodies were being burnt in makeshift facilities offering mass cremations.
The southern state of Karnataka, home to the tech city of Bengaluru, ordered a 14-day lockdown from Tuesday, joining the western industrial state of Maharashtra, where lockdowns run until May 1, although some states were also set to lift lockdown measures this week.
The patchy curbs, complicated by local elections and mass festival gatherings, could prompt breakouts elsewhere, as infections rose by 352,991 in the last 24 hours, with crowded hospitals running out of oxygen supplies and beds.
"Currently the hospital is in beg-and-borrow mode and it is an extreme crisis situation," said a spokesman for the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the capital, New Delhi.

Following a fire at a hospital in the western diamond industry hub of Surat, five COVID-19 patients died after being moved to other hospitals that lacked space in th
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies posted sharp losses on Friday, onconcern that U.S. President Joe Biden's plan to raise capital gains taxes will curb investments in digital assets.
News reports on Thursday said the Biden administration is planning a raft of proposed changes to the U.S. tax code, including a plan to nearly double taxes on capital gains to 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million.
Bitcoin, the biggest and most popular cryptocurrency , slumped to $47,555, falling below the $50,000 mark for the first time since early March. It was last down 4% at $49,667.
Smaller rivals Ether and XRP fell 3.5% and 6.7%, respectively, while dogecoin, created as a joke for early crypto adopters and which had surged about 8,000% this year prior to this latest setback, was down 20% at $0.21, according to price and data tracker CoinGecko.
The tax plans jolted markets, prompting investors to book profits in stocks and other risk assets, which have rallied massively on hopes of a solid economic recovery.
"With a high growth rate in the bitcoin price, crypto holders that have accrued gains will be subjected to this tax increment," said Nick Spanos, founder at Bitcoin Center NYC. He sees bitcoin dropping further in the coming days.
Bitcoin is on track for an 11.3% loss on the week, its worst weekly showing since late February. On the year, however, it was still up 72%.
But while social media lit up with posts about the plan hurting cryptocurrencies, and individual investors complaining about losses, some traders and analysts said declines are likely to be temporary.
"I don't think Biden's taxes plans will have a big impact on bitcoin," said Ruud Feltkamp, CEO at automated crypto trading bot Cryptohopper. "Bitcoin has only gone up for a long time, it is only natural to see a consolidation. Traders are simply cashing in on winnings."
Others also remained bullish on bitcoin's long term prospects, but noted it might take time before prices start increasing again.

Police in Ohio shot and killed a black teenage girl who swung at two other people with a knife
Police in Ohio shot and killed a black teenage girl who swung at two other people with a knife, according to bodycam footage from the officer who fired the shots minutes before the verdict in George Floyd’s killing was read.
Officials with the Columbus Division of Police showed a segment of the footage hours after the shooting in a neighbourhood on the city’s east side.
The decision to swiftly release the video was a departure from protocol as the force faces immense scrutiny from the public following a series of recent high-profile police killings that have led to clashes.
The 10-second clip begins with the officer getting out of his car at a house where police had been dispatched after someone called 911 saying they were being physically threatened, Interim Police Chief Michael Woods said at the news conference.
The officer takes a few steps towards a group of people in the driveway when the girl starts swinging a knife wildly at another girl or woman, who falls backwards. The officer shouts several times to get down.
The girl with the knife then charges at another girl or woman who is pinned against a car.
From a few feet away, with people on either side of him, the officer fires four shots, and the teenager slumps to the ground. A black-handled blade similar to a kitchen knife or steak knife lies on the pavement next to her.
A man immediately yells at the officer: “You didn’t have to shoot her! She’s just a kid, man!”
The officer responds: “She had a knife. She just went at her.”
The race of the officer wasn’t clear and he was taken off patrolling the streets for the time being.
The girl was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. It remains unclear if anyone else was injured.
Police did not identify the girl or her age on Tuesday. One family member said she was 15, while another said she was 16.
Protesters who had gathered peacefully after the Floyd verdict to call for police reform and accountability quickly s

Monkey playing a simple video game after getting implants of the new technology.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's brain-chip startup released footage appearing to show a monkey playing a simple video game after getting implants of the new technology.
The 3-minute video by Neuralink shows Pager, a male macaque with chips embedded on each side of its brain, playing 'Mind Pong'. Although he was trained to move a joystick, it is now unplugged. He controls the paddle simply by thinking about moving his hand up or down.
"First @Neuralink product will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs," Mr Musk tweeted.
"Later versions will be able to shunt signals from Neuralinks in brain to Neuralinks in body motor/sensory neuron clusters, thus enabling, for example, paraplegics to walk again. The device is implanted flush with skull & charges wirelessly, so you look & feel totally normal," he added
Neuralink works by recording and decoding electrical signals from the brain using more than 2,000 electrodes implanted in regions of the monkey's motor cortex that coordinate hand and arm movements, the video's voiceover said.
"Using these data, we calibrate the decoder by mathematically modeling the relationship between patterns of neural activity and the different joystick movements they produce."
Co-founded by Mr Musk in 2016, San Francisco-based Neuralink aims to implant wireless brain computer chips to help cure neurological conditions like Alzheimer's, dementia and spinal cord injuries and fuse humankind with artificial intelligence.
In August 2020, Musk unveiled a pig with a Neuralink chip implant, describing it as "a Fitbit in your skull."
Musk has a history of bringing together diverse experts to develop technology previously limited to academic labs, including for rockets and electrical vehicles, through companies such as Tesla Inc and SpaceX.

Six Puppies Are All Determined to Fit Into One Small Bucket
There’s nothing cuter than a bucket of puppies, right?
It was after dinner and time for a nap in Sebastopol, California—and none of these guys wanted to be left out of the veritable ‘dog pile.’
When five of them succeeded at fitting inside the plastic pail, the sixth one of the litter was not to be outdone.
Maybe being on the top was better anyway—so it leapt atop the furry mound of brothers and sisters.

Egyptians have been witnessing a historic procession of their country's ancient rulers through the capital, Cairo.
Egyptians have been witnessing a historic procession of their country's ancient rulers through the capital, Cairo.
The lavish, multimillion-dollar spectacle saw 22 mummies - 18 kings and four queens - transported from the peach-coloured, neo-classical Egyptian Museum to their new resting place 5km (three miles) away.
With tight security arrangements befitting their royal blood and status as national treasures, the mummies were relocated to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation in what is called The Pharaohs' Golden Parade.
They were transported with great fanfare in chronological order of their reigns - from the 17th Dynasty ruler, Seqenenre Taa II, to Ramses IX, who reigned in the 12th Century BC.
Egypt experienced a sharp rise in Covid-19 infections a year ago, but following a decline in the number of cases and deaths, restrictions on open-air gatherings were later lifted.
One of the main attractions of Saturday's event is King Ramses II, the most famous pharaoh of the New Kingdom, who ruled for 67 years and is remembered for signing the first known peace treaty.
Another is Queen Hatshepsut, or Foremost of Noble Ladies. She became ruler even though the customs of her time were that women did not become pharaohs.
Each mummy was carried on a decorated vehicle fitted with special shock-absorbers and surrounded by a motorcade, including replica horse-drawn war chariots.
While ancient mummification techniques originally preserved the pharaohs, for the move they have been placed in special nitrogen-filled boxes to help protect them against external conditions. Roads along the route have also been repaved to keep the journey smooth.
"The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has done its best to make sure that the mummies have been stabilised, conserved, and are packed in a climate-controlled environment," said Salima Ikram, professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo.

A Mama Black Bear Struggle Hilariously To Get All Four Cubs Across The Road
Fresh out of their winter den, this mama black bear in Connecticut had her paws full—trying to get all four cubs across the road as cars piled up in both directions.
25 miles northwest of Hartford, the state capital, a driver in the city of Winsted had a front row seat to the amusing scene unfolding.
Four cubs is a lot for a bear, an animal that usually has to manage caring for only two or three.
The adorable video, shot on March 27, depicts the difficulty she had, with the fourth cub refusing to cross, and trying to climb a utility pole instead.
The police from nearby Winchester were called to the scene, but drivers were waiting patiently for the bear to get her brood safely to the other side.
She BEAR-LY made it across!

A 'Not Haunted' House Scares Up In Interest In Massachusetts Town
A Massachusetts woman noticed something strange about the “For Sale” sign outside a home in her neighbourhood.
On top of the sign with the name of the broker and their contact information was a sign with the words “Not Haunted” in big red letters.
“This just went up around the corner and I have so many questions,” Margot Bloomstein wrote in a tweet this week that included an image of the sign, The Boston Globe reported on Thursday.
The house is west of Boston but Bloomstein didn’t want to say exactly where to respect the homeowner’s privacy, she said. But she reached out to the real estate agency to learn more about the sign.
They knew nothing about it either.
The consensus is that the sign is a prank – maybe played by a ghost with a sense of humour.

Onlookers have said they briefly thought “aliens were finally here” after a falling SpaceX rocket lit up the skies over the United States’ Pacific Northwest.
The Falcon 9 second stage rocket drew awe from onlookers in Seattle as it burned up in the Earth’s atmosphere shortly after 9pm on Thursday.
Front desk supervisor Eberton Paul spotted the blaze of flames as it passed by the city’s famous Space Needle tower.
“One millisecond I wished aliens were finally here,” the 36-year-old told the PA news agency.
“I was on my PC, and I often stare at the Space Needle, when suddenly I saw this bright light coming towards it.
“I first thought it was a plane, but then I saw the sparkles and I was sure it was debris re-entering.”
The SpaceX rocket had been delivering Starlink satellites and the company said on Wednesday that its first stage rocket had returned to Earth as planned, landing on a barge off the coast of Florida.
No damage or impacts were reported on the ground from the debris.

This is the incredible moment a man escaped almost certain death when he toppled backwards off a balcony—but gets saved when a bystander catches his foot.
CCTV footage shows a group of men lining up to collect their labor pensions on the second-floor balcony of a bank in Kerala, South India.
In the video, one of the men can be seen slowly swaying back and forth before leaning backwards and tumbling off the concrete balcony ledge.
A quick-thinking bystander springs into action—grabbing his foot as he goes over.
Others can be seen rushing over to the aid of the unconscious man, eventually pulling him back to safety.
The man, known locally as Binu, was later taken to the nearest hospital. It’s reported that he did not sustain any injuries and is now safe—with his black-out having been caused by an unexplained medical episode.
