Growing up spiritually is a process that requires us to look at our thoughts, our behaviours, our language - everything, and determine what of our old life before Christ needs to go. Then we need to see what God has given us in our new life as citizens of His kingdom and we need to put that new life on so that we reflect Him to our world. Join Joanna as she examines this topic. Let's talk about S*X! Addiction that is. Po*******hy! St*****rs! Peep Shows! ~GASP!~ And how sexual addiction can destroy people, marriages, and families...including my own.
I was asked to share a portion of my history that I don't often talk about on a friend's podcast. Did you know that partners in marriage who regularly view po*******hy are 381% times more likely to commit adultery? Did you know that there has been a statistical explosion of young men who are experiencing impotence with live partners because of this? Did you know the average age of p**nographic exposure is 11? Did you know that church goers are statistically identical as non-church goers to viewing po*******hy on a regular basis? (around 65%) And that includes pastors and women? Did you know that my own life was ripped apart by this addiction in my 20s? Well guess what? You get to hear me share in tears, anger, and uncomfortable laughter. Lucky you. But seriously...if you are struggling with sexual addiction, or if you love someone who is struggling with sexual addiction, if you get nothing else from my story, know that you are not alone. And your pain is real and valid.

The topic that NEEDS talked about.
One that most people will shy away from.

Po*******hy is a problem.

Joanna has found the strength to speak loud and clear on how p**n hurts people.
She is willing to talk about what most won’t.

Popping in from my hiatus to say this. No matter what happens with the supreme court and abortion, one truth remains either way: We as a society - but especially those who call themselves followers of Jesus, need to support the pregnant women, single mothers and fathers, and families who are less fortunate. What does support mean? It means not shaming or condemning them. It means finances. Time. Resources. Childcare. Adoption. Support of families in our community who are fostering or adopting from foster care. (speaking to WE church people who have no problem spending money on bouncy castles and a new fellowship hall, while orphans and widows go homeless and hungry). It means contraceptives as healthcare because no matter how much you preach abstinence - not everyone believes like you do, and it just becomes a form of conservative virtual signaling. It means healthcare for moms and children. When the picketers are ready to put down their signs and start paying pregnancy and after-pregnancy healthcare bills - then maybe, just maybe, they will believe us when we talk about the humility, love, sacrifice, and new life of Jesus.

Friends - if any of you know me - you know I love to give. It is my love language. Over the past 3 months I have been a part of a group of ladies on Zoom who have given me acceptance, church, and love in a way I haven't had in many years. Several of these ladies are from Belize. But not the tropical vacation wonderland areas some of you may have vacationed at - they live where the tourists do not go. They deal with living situations that make me blush when I think of things I have complained about or not appreciated in my life - and they deal with it with such grace and faith and joy and courage, that they are truly signs and wonders in their neighborhoods. One of these precious sisters has a husband of many years who has been a part of a gang there - and has been shot over 10 times. This weekend he has turned his heart and life over to the Living God, and become our brother - our family. And now we need to get his bullet wound and jaw fixed, and we need to help get him and their family out of the neighborhood controlled by this gang so they can start a new path - not just spiritually, but physically as well. If just each of my friends could give $10 - my friends list alone could pay for his healing. So I am asking - would you please consider giving $10 to this brother who wants to give a better life to his family?

Yep - I am still out here!

Jesus didn't say to the tax collectors and sinners that he ate and drank with "no I will not eat with you or drink with you or speak to you (or bake you a cake) because I disagree with your lifestyle." Rather He was right there beside them, living with them, sharing meals with them and loving them. And it was this love and reaching into their hearts that caused people to make the free will choice to drop their sins and follow him. Are we greater than our master that rather than wrapping our arms around a hurting society and loving them into the Kingdom of God, we are trying to legislate them in and fling scriptures at them in, and judge them in? Running a Christian business with "Christian values" means that YOU are above reproach, that YOU walk in integrity and love, that YOU serve the "least of these", that YOUR behaviour honors Jesus. It does not mean making sure that every person who walks through your doors is living that way too. I can love all the "sinners" I encounter (including myself) and show them honor and respect as being worthy of the death of Jesus, without that meaning I am somehow compromising my beliefs or agreeing with their lifestyle. Christians!!! We are not supposed to be building the Kingdom of the United States of America. We are supposed to be building the Kingdom of God. Which is supposed to be a kingdom of love and joy and peace.

The Hosts

Ben and Joanna are the youngest of 5 siblings. They grew up together in a pastor's household in northern Ohio. Their parents exposed them to many different church denominations, and a variety of interesting people who represented The Church in unique and different ways. As they became adults, it wasn't unusual to find them sitting up late into the night talking about all things God, the bible, the church, politics, and cultural issues. Even though Joanna is now in a different country, sharing the conversations of how to stay connected to God, and be The Church in our world, is still very much a part of their lives. Ben and Joanna feel it's important to have the conversations, ask the hard questions, examine your faith, and at the end of it walk away with a deeper connection to the One who breathes life into your soul. We want to help equip you to be able to say to your friends, families, co-workers, and social media worlds: "I will be your Church!"
