Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi to discuss efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. Secretary Blinken stressed the need for urgent efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that secures the release of hostages, allows for increased humanitarian assistance, alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people, and creates conditions for broader stability. Secretary Blinken emphasized the importance of the parties taking steps to de-escalate tensions and avoid further escalation. Secretary Blinken underscored the United States’ steadfast commitment to Jordan and thanked the Hashemite Kingdom for its leadership in providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians and promoting regional peace and security.
