Celebrate pride by celebrating q***r stories.

From iconoclastic writer and musician Adele Bertei comes “a powerful look at survival and redemption despite extremely challenging obstacles” (Kirkus Reviews, Best Nonfiction of 2023). Set in a 1960s and ’70s American neighborhood rife with poverty and violence, fatherless Irish mothers and Italian mobsters, women crucified into madness by misogyny, and an unforgettable supporting cast of characters, Bertei speaks through her electrically alive avatar Maddie Twist to flip the victim script. One of the many topics covered in “Stay” is the production of “Being Flynn,” the 2012 drama film based on Flynn’s previous memoir “Another Bu****it Night in Suck City” and starring Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro, and Paul Dano. Flynn writes eloquently of the out-of-body experience of seeing one’s past recreated, bolstered by photos from set: a meta take on the nature of memoir, moments captured of moments reenacted.
