This week's The Rabbit Hole Minnesota Music Monday features No Man's String Band and Nic Hentges. Nic will be joining us on Thursday for the show. Nic officiated my wedding. Nic's a good guy and he knows everything about Bluegrass and he'll prove it on Thursday for now here's a bit about The No Man's String Band.

Are you married?
We are all married with many kids and pets within the NMSB camp. Family is a huge priority for us. When we started this band it was as much about getting together socially as it was about creating music. Even though we are all increasingly busy with our family lives, I think our focus on family and friendship has in part allowed us to still be here with the same members creating at an ever progressing level.

What are some old bands/artists/songwriters that you still love today?
Like most people there are many "old" artists that we love. That may be especially true for our fiddle player Lindsey who has intensely studied classical music and is a part of a baroque music community playing music from the 17th and 18th century. As a band we really love Johnny Cash material. We love Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass music. We love Del McCoury, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson. There is also a heavy emphasis on classic and traditional material within bluegrass communities.

If you were a professional wrestler, what would be your theme song?
Definitely Eye of the Tiger....

How do you know when a song is a “keeper?”
This is an interesting question because we write a lot and we also play lots of covers. Justin and Nic are the songwriters in the band. When it comes to our originaly material we have rarely worked collectively on a song that we didn't keep. Over the years though we have certainly filtered out some of that material. As a writer I am constantly collecting small ideas and waiting for the opportunity to piece together a complete puzzle. The material that makes it off of the pages and into the hands of the band are songs that won't let me put them down. They advocate for themselves.

Tell us about any upcoming shows or recordings you'd like Iike to share.
We have a brand new collection of songs out in the world, called Love Song. It's available on all major streaming platforms, on bandcamp, and on CD. We are hosting an album release concert on March 22nd at 7 PM at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church on 27th AVE NE in Nordeast Minneapolis. The event is family friendly and details are available at
