Walker is walking across America! From Idaho, down through California, across the Southwest, the South, the Carolinas, and up to Washington, D.C., just in time for Inauguration Day. Why? He pretty much has to! As a modern-day and devoted descendent of legendary 19th century long-distance pedestrian Preston Dilettante, the relentlessly sunny Walker Dilettante (and his trusty sentient bindle) will gladly traipse across the country to reunite far-flung family members for a photo with their common ancestor’s iconic boot — as a gift to his beloved, dying Grandpappy. Along the way, Walker is accompanied by his social media-savvy cousin, Ria, meets cousins he loves who loathe him back, and accidentally involves himself in a deadly scandal surrounding both the incoming and outgoing presidents. That’s the world of WALKER (ISBN 978-1-954158-29-0).

Debuting as a #1 new release in humorous fiction, WALKER is a book about America, yokels, Instagram, politics, intrigue, hot air balloons, mysteries, and, most of all, the weirdness of family and the burden of legacy. “It’s like if On The Road was an absurdist epic, filled with homespun Americana dreams, centered around a lovable naïf, seasoned with a touch of Simon Rich,” says Saturday Night Live writer Brian McElhaney. “Reading this was honestly, somehow, more fun than TV.”

“WALKER came about when my brother told me about pedestrianism, competitive walking popular in the Civil War era. I’ve always loved learning about sports subcultures that have gone out of style over the years,” says first-time novelist Sam Pasternack. “Once I started imagining the modern-day descendants of the most famous pedestrians, Walker’s story came into focus.”

Celebrate WALKER with live in-person at in NYC on Sept 4th at 6pm! in conversation with Olivia Rutigliano

About the Author

Langley Powell died. Then, much to his surprise, he kept living. Sort of. And then he had to save the universe from erasure. Langley Powell was definitely the world’s most famous non-believer, a debunker of mysteries and exposer of hoaxes who lived a life of casual reason and lucrative celebrity. But then he died. Crushed by a falling piano. So it goes. Instead of immediately ceasing to exist in a vast expanse of nothing, as he’d expected, Langley found himself right back on Earth — but a different one. Aided by an extremely surly childlike guide, Langley goes to work for the network of the powerful elites that run whatever realm this is to stop his childhood hero’s mystical, magical mentor from resetting the entirety of existence. Along the way, there are secret decoder rings, rare foods, reborn rock stars, red herrings both literal and figurative, and blasts from the past and present, all terribly necessary to the mission of Langley Powell and the Society for the Defense of the Mundane.

Langley Powell and the Society for the Defense of the Mundane is part sci-fi, part fantasy, and part philosophy, a passionate and compassionately humanist novel full of laughs, tears, secret decoder rings, rare foods, reborn rock stars,
and red herrings (both literal and figurative), all to serve a wildly creative and dazzling take on what could happen after death. Jeff Giles, a prolific pop culture writer (Popdose, Rotten Tomatoes, Beer-Topia, Llanview in the Afternoon: An Oral History of One Life to Live) and podcast host (The Record Player) delivers a staggering, entertaining, and thoughtful first novel.

Advance Praise for Langley Powell and the Society for the Defense of the Mundane:

“Saying this book is wonderfully mundane is the highest praise one can heap upon it.”

—Jimmy Pardo, Never Not Funny Podcast

“Langley Powell and the Society for the Defense of the Mundane is a delightfully zany romp through the afterlife. Smartly written and wonderfully imaginative, this wacky, dimension-hopping adventure from Jeff Giles tickles the funny bone and tugs at the heartstrings in equal measure. I gobbled it up like a plate of crispy dodo tenders."

1948, New York City: Jeremiah Carp, a mild-mannered professor with a penchant for gentle pranks, finds his tranquil life upended by a seemingly innocent collaboration. Tasked with promoting the introduction of a new letter, “aitch,” to the English alphabet, Jeremiah unwittingly becomes a cog in an otherworldly scheme centuries in the making.

It’s A Linguistic Laugh Riot: From cover to cover, Brozik weaves an original narrative filled with sharp wit, linguistics, and an intergalactic conspiracy that will keep you guessing.

The Western literary tradition begins with ancient Greek and Roman epics, winds its way through Milton, Shakespeare, and Dickens, and to where we find it today, a rich and beautiful catalog of the human experience. But to read all of that is just so much, well, reading, and who has the time or the energy? Lance Hansen does, and he’s successfully combined an encyclopedic knowledge of literature with pithy criticism, the skills of a poet, and the artistic eye of a cartoonist to create Limerature 101: Literary Classics in Five Lines or Less (With Pictures).Presenting more than 60 of the great works of literature, summarized and satirized as jaunty, hilarious limericks, and with accompanying illustrations of their legendary creators.

Presented as the text of a full-year university-level literature course, Limerature 101 takes readers on an informative but savagely humorous journey through the history of literature. The well-read and literarily curious will devour Hansen’s takes, and each limerick is accompanied with an original, hand-drawn portrait by the author.

Happy Pub Day! Comedy Caper Coming-of-Age Novel ‘The Lobster Heist’ the Debut Novel by Popular Comedy Writer Erin McLaughlin Reaches #1 in New Releases https://humoristbooks.com/the-lobster-heist/

An underemployed hot dog dresser, his reluctant friends, and a hypnotically blue and totally purloined crustacean are on the move, and quickly. Why? Because life if short, and sometimes, you’ve just got to get the lobster

Apart from his thankless job at Hot Dawgy Dawgs, Brooklyn’s best and worst hot dog joint, twenty-something Josh Cantillo doesn’t have much going on in his life. Unless you count his never-ending quest to find his lobsterman father who went out for milk one day and never came back.

One of the only things that Josh remembered about him was their shared enchantment with a rare, metallic-blue lobster that resides in a local, rundown Chinese restaurant. And when Josh finds out that his father is dying, he’ll go to any means to kidnap that blue lobster and bring it to him.

It’s a journey that will require the assistance of friends and enemies, old and new, and which will send him into the path of underworld criminals, crusty fisherman, romantic rivals, and various other hidden and hilarious dangers of New England.

“I wrote The Lobster Heist because I spent my entire life feeling that a piece of me was missing, because I didn’t know my father. As I wrote the book, I learned alongside Josh that much more than that makes up who you are,” McLaughlin says. “I also really wanted to publish a novel by the time I was 26, and Humorist Books made that happen for me!”

“Characters funny enough to be on T.V., jammed right into a hot dog-infused book you can take with you anywhere.”

— Matt Saincome, The Hard Times

“The Lobster Heist manages to be a funny book that's also a crime caper — and it touches upon love and loss. This book has everything, including a giant blue lobster, references to '90s indie rock, and copious amounts of drinking. The only thing it doesn't have is sauerkraut.”
—Janine Annett, McSweeney’s

“A roadtrip comedy full of unforgettable characters, both human and lobster.”
— Orli Matlow, Adult Swim

We are excited to reveal the cover for the very funny road trip adventure comedy THE LOBSTER HEIST, the debut novel by comedy writer Erin McLaughlin () hitting shelves on August 29th plus a launch event October 6th in NYC at Astoria Bookstore! LINK: https://humoristbooks.com/the-lobster-heist/

It’s a foolproof plan, if not for Pony’s ruthless gun-toting handlers, a mad-dash to Maine, and the crusty lobster fishermen who won't reveal his father's whereabouts. Josh and his friends' dedication to making it out alive, and his father's ticking-timeline, might just help them accomplish their mission. At any rate, the comical misadventures of The Lobster Heist will at least get Josh out of serving sauerkraut for a few days.

Advance Praise for The LOBSTER HEIST
