Hi there! My name is Ruth and I have quite the interesting story to share with you....

My whole life I have felt like a puzzle piece that didn't quite fit within my family. It was an odd feeling because I didn't experience the same feelings around my mom's side of the family. It always bothered me a bit, and I always wondered why.

Within my family at home there were some drastic differences between how my younger brother and I were treated. I just figured that my parents were the type that played favorites, and with him checking all the "ideal child" boxes of course it would be him.

I was always a bit different, and not only did I know it, I definitely felt it. I felt it so hard that for the longest time I questioned whether my dad was actually my biological father. I debated for a long time about taking a DNA test. I finally worked up the courage in September of 2021 and I ordered one.

When I got it in I held on to it for a few days because I just had this sinking feeling that what I felt inside would be reflected in the results. I finally just did it one day and popped it in the mail box.

Queue the anxiety.

After about a month the results came in. I waited until my kids went to bed that night to open the email. I wasn't shocked like I thought I would be, but felt like a weight had been lifted off of me. The man I knew as my dad for 36 years was infact not my biological father.

It might sound odd to hear that finding that out was a relief, but what it did was make so much of my life make sense. Why I was never the favorite, why I got pushed to the side a lot of times, and a plethora of other things. I knew I wasn't crazy and that it justified and confirmed all of my feelings over the years.

I confronted my parents and was intitally lied to yet again. They later showed up at my house and told me that it was true, which I already knew because DNA doesn't lie. They told me their side of things, gave me his name and I have been doing my best to move forward.

I shortly there after I began my journey to find my biological father. I messaged family member after family member seeing if they knew anything. I kept coming to dead ends. In the summer of 2022 I stopped messaging and was on the verge of completely giving up. I kept checking my messages and DNA matches but didn't have much hope.

One day in September I noticed that I had a response to a message on one of my DNA sites. I opened it and was in shock. I had gotten the first lead to my biological father. Who I would come to know as my great aunt asked me a few questions, and then told me she would get back to me.

When she did she directed me to her Facebook, told me to look for a man named Randy and to message him. I waited a day or two and then I sent the following message:

"I don't really know what to say or how to start this off so I'm just going to dive right in.

I have been searching for my biological father for around a year and my search has led me to you. I connected with *Great Aunt* on 23 and Me as well as Ancestry.com and she directed me to you with the information I was able to provide her with.
I am hoping that you would also like to connect and chat a bit when you are ready and comfortable. I want to be very respectful of you, your time and your feelings around all of this as it may be a lot to take in.

I would say it was a lot for me, but I have always had my suspicions since I was young that the man I was told was my father in fact wasn't. I will start with sharing a little bit about myself and if you're comfortable sharing I would love to get to know a bit more about you.

My name is Ruth and I am 36 years old. I was born on ×××× 14, 19×× to D.H. in CT. I am married to the love of my life and have 2 beautiful children, Phineas (4) and Lorelai (2), and a little girl on the way due in January. I am stay at home mom and I like to volunteer my time at my son's school as much as I can.

Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have as I am more than happy to answer them."

He got back to me almost immediately and sent his phone number. I worked up the courage and sent him and text and we decided to have a phone call. I spent hours on the phone with him.

He explained his side of things and how he never gave up hope that I would find him. There were a lot of tears on both ends of the phone and it was clear that we had both found a piece of us that had been missing.

Since September I have spent many hours on the phone with my dad and step mom, who are amazing people. I have had such fun getting to know them and watch them fall head over heels in love with their grand children, who affectionately call them 'The Grandpas'.

Lance and I have decided that after quite the wild ride of finding all this out, and getting to know them that we needed to meet them.

There is only one problem.

The entire United States sits between us and them. We have been saving and doing our best to make this dream come true but I humbly come to you all to ask for a bit of help to accomplish this.

We just recently bought our home in November so we are extremely tight on money so saving for such a big trip has been a challenge. The money we raise will be used for fuel, food and incase of emergency.

I hope that you will consider helping to make this dream come true and unite myself and my little family with my dad and step-mom so we can all finally meet. If we can accomplish this trip we will be sure to update with photos, videos and stories from our grand adventure.

From the bottom of my heart thank you for reading my story and I hope that you will share it with others. If you are on the same journey as I was and searching for family... don't give up.
