On July 17, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued a stranded Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Aashni, which had 11 crew members on board, around 80 nautical miles from Kochi, Kerala, in a combined sea-air operation despite severe weather and heavy rain. The loss of propulsion and flooding from a hull break close to the keel had left the vessel in critical condition, endangering the crew's safety. On the evening of July 16, 2024, an ICG Dornier aircraft conducting maritime surveillance found the IFB in distress. The ICG District Headquarters No 4 (Kerala & Mahe) promptly diverted the patrolling ICG ship Saksham to assist the vessel. In order to support the mission, the Advanced Light Helicopter and another ICG ship, Abhinav, were sent to retrieve the crew. A technical ICG team entered the overturned boat, performed de-flooding procedures, and gave the help that was required. The crew's complete rescue, together with the vessel, marked the end of the mission. After that, the boat was given to the Fisheries Department. The operation demonstrated the ICG's commitment to protecting the nation's maritime zones and their safety and security once more.

AS 'YEAR OF NAVAL CIVILIANS' The Indian Navy has proclaimed 2024 as the "Year of Naval Civilians," with the goal of enhancing the management, effectiveness, and welfare of naval civilians by promptly addressing every aspect of civilian HR management. The adoption of digital initiatives, general and specialized training programs, welfare measures, and maximizing administrative efficiency have been selected as key emphasis areas for 2024. About one-third of the Indian Navy's manpower is made up of naval civilians, who greatly enhance the force's operational efficacy in all areas. The effectiveness of many naval formations, including Command Headquarters, Dockyards, Material Organizations, Naval Armament Depots, Naval Armament Inspectorates, Training Establishments, and several other support units, is affected by the presence of civilian personnel. Several programs have been developed and put into operation in the past to improve employee happiness and organizational effectiveness for civilian staff members. To ensure, however, that they effectively contribute to ensuring that the Indian Navy always stays a battle ready, credible, cohesive, and future proof force, it is vital that impetus be provided to their administration, training, welfare, etc. A step in this manner is to designate 2024 as their year.

The Indian Navy moved quickly to stop the seizure of the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier MV Lila Norfolk, deploying a sizable force of ships and planes as well as an aggressive plan to repel the pirate onslaught. By 1515 hours, the guided missile destroyer INS Chennai had reached the site. Continuous aerial reconnaissance of the MV Lila Norfolk was conducted by integrated helicopters, MQ9B (Sea Guardian), and P8I. The Indian Navy Marine Commandos then boarded the MV Lila Norfolk and thoroughly sanitized the living areas, mechanical rooms, and upper decks. On board, the crew did not come into any pirates. It is possible that the pirates were forced to flee throughout the night after receiving strong warnings from Indian Naval aircraft and maybe being intercepted by an IN warship. The MV Lila Norfolk's 21 crew members have all been saved and are now safe. Indian naval personnel are looking into the possible warships in the region. The MV team is currently working on repairing the power supply, steering gear, and propulsion. MV Lila Norfolk will then resume her journey to her destination while being escorted by the Indian Naval Warship.

In a spectacular ceremony on December 14, 23 at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Tarmugli, a Fast Attack Craft, under the auspices of the Eastern Naval Command. The Chief of Materiel, Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, was the ceremony's principal guest. The government of India gave the ship, a Trinkat Class FAC, to the Maldivian Naval Defence Forces (MNDF) in 2006. In May of this year, the ship was surrendered to the Indian Navy, which also gave the MNDF a Waterjet Fast Attack Craft that was operational—the new MCGS Huravee. After undergoing substantial restoration work at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, the FAC has taken on its current form once again. The warship, which has 30 mm cannon, state-of-the-art radar technology, MTU engines, and the newest communication gear, will be heavily utilized for coastal surveillance and ODA protection in the KG Basin region of India's east coast. Under the direction of Cdr. Satpal Singh Sangwan, INS Tarmugli would function under the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh). The 46-meter ship, which bears the name of a charming island in the Andaman group, can move 320 tons and reach speeds of over 30 knots.
