On this day, in 1973, Roy Clarke’s *The* LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE was launched as the COMEDY PLAYHOUSE episode: ‘Of Fish and Funerals’, broadcast from 8pm. 52 years ago.
Clegg (PETER SALLIS) would appear in every episode, right up until the very last in 2010; Compo (BILL OWEN) was there filming until his death, in 1999; Blamire (MICHAEL BATES) for the first two series, leaving in 1975 to focus on It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, until his early passing in 1978.
