💃Chapter 1
At the Lyman family in New York City.
In the dead of night on Christmas Day, the wind blew the snow outside the French window, and from time to time, it patted the window, making a deep sound of "rustling".
"Get a divorce. Don't waste any more time. Three years is the limit of my patience."
A cold voice came from the man's mouth.
Leah's body froze. She looked at the cold man in front of her and her eyes darkened. "Have you endured it for three years?"
"The terms of the divorce are up to you."
Mark turned around and was about to change his clothes. He didn't even say a word more to her.
The indifference made Leah feel chilled, but she still smiled, "If you don't want to hold the wedding, we can give up the wedding and don't need a divorce."
As soon as she finished her words, Mark threw the glass on the table to the floor.
His face was impatient, and his dark eyes were angry. "There is no room for negotiation!"
After saying that, Mark directly lifted the quilt and went to bed.
With her fists clenched slightly, Leah didn't dare to respond again. She just squatted down to pick up the broken glass and threw it into the can.
Leah tried to keep her movements quiet so as not to disturb Mark, but when she got up, her legs went numb and she accidentally touched a table nearby and made a noise.
She gritted her teeth secretly, and the pain in her knee was barely overcome when the man's unhappy voice came from the bed.
"What are you doing?"
Mark's voice was serious. He sat up sharply, without concealing his anger on his face. His tightly frowned eyebrows made Leah nervous.
In the end, he burst out his anger.
Leah explained in a low voice, "I wanted to get rid of the broken glass in case you stepped on it in the morning."
Hearing this, Mark's eyes flashed with coldness. He sneered, "Do you mean to say that because I'm blind I have to be careful everywhere?"
Standing still, Leah sank, but she couldn't refute him. She was used to tolerating his emotions.
The car accident three years ago caused Mark’s blindness. Since then, his temper had become more and more strange and irritable.
So she tolerated him as much as she could. She never argued with him no matter how nasty he said.
There was no answer from Leah. In a quiet, Mark became more and more irritable. His low and hoarse voice passed through Leah’s body like the cold wind.
"Don't think that I will accept you just because grandma asked me to give you a wedding. In my opinion, you are no different from the servants at home!"
Although Leah thought she would not have any reaction after hearing these words, she still felt a little pain.
After all, they had been together for three years. Even if Mark had a stone, he should have been touched by her.
Leah stared at his cold face and was painful at the thought of her grievance and his indifference over the years.
"I didn't mention the wedding. It was Grandma who thought..."
Before Leah could finish her words, Mark interrupted her impatiently, "If it weren't for you, how could Grandma want us to hold a wedding ceremony? I don't want to hear you say one more word now. Get out!"
The cold wind poured in from the window, and slightly raised her thin dress. Leah’s fingertips were cold, and her limbs were a little stiff.
Staring at the broken glass on the floor, Leah seemed to be broken too.
Although Mark couldn't see, she still smiled and said in a very gentle voice, "Don't be angry. I'll go out after cleaning up and won't disturb you."
Clenching the corner of the quilt, Mark hated the humble look of Leah and her unprincipled obedience. That would only make him feel more disgusted.
Mark pressed his thin lips together and finally suppressed his anger.
At this time, the phone on the bedside table suddenly rang.
He picked up the phone and answered it. "What's up?" His voice was hoarse.
"Mr. Lyman, something bad happened. Miss Nolan took the medicine and committed su***de! Come quickly!"
Mark's face changed and his eyebrows twisted. "Which hospital? I'm coming now!"
The person on the other end of the line told him the address. After hanging up the phone, Mark immediately got out of bed and changed the clothes that Leah prepared for him for the second day. He was in a hurry.
Seeing this, Leah wanted to help him, but her foot accidentally stepped on the glass fragment. She gritted her teeth to endure the sharp pain, then took a cold breath, and limped to Mark.
"Where are you going? I'll go with you."
Mark didn't answer. He put on his coat and walked towards the door. His wide back showed endless indifference.
After three years of living habits, Mark had already been able to move freely at home, as if he were a normal person. Leah was no longer his eyes.
She wanted to follow him regardless of her self-esteem. Mark seemed to feel it and said coldly, "I'm going to see Emily. If you want to come, you can. After all, you have no dignity left anyway."
The words finally made Leah burst into tears.
She was frozen in place, and she was cold. She just quietly watched the figure blur in her sight until it disappeared.
After Mark left, Leah couldn't hold on anymore. She sat down in the chair with a chill.
She just pursued her love. Was it wrong?
In the hospital.
The doctor rescued Emily for half an hour and pumped her stomach before transferring her to the VIP ward.
With the help of Mark, everyone in the hospital paid special attention to Emily.
Everyone was relieved after they saved Miss Nolan back. Otherwise, they didn't know how to face Mr. Lyman.
They were afraid that Mark would take his anger out on the hospital.
In the large ward, Mark was waiting for Emily to wake up. His driver and people of Emily were waiting quietly at the door.
Half an hour later, Emily regained consciousness. She saw the man who appeared by the bed. Seeing the tense expression on his face, she pressed her lips. She knew that she had won the bet.
Under the dim light, the man's outline was deep and perfect. How could she give up such a man to another woman?
"I thought you want to abandon me."
Emily’s slightly hoarse voice made the coldness in Mark's eyes disappear. There was a touch of tenderness in his dark eyes. He said in a low voice, "Don't do stupid things for me anymore."
Emily froze for a moment. That's it?
She came back from the brink of death, and only got such a word?
Emily gritted her teeth and suddenly hugged Mark. She put her head on Mark's shoulder and tears ran down her face.
"Without you, I couldn't be happy. Now the whole world knows that you are going to marry Leah. What about me?"
Chapter 2 Grandpa’s death
At the mention of Leah, Mark's eyes flashed with coldness. If she didn't deliberately fawn at his grandma, the current situation wouldn't have been like this.
But now, Mark felt the most sorry for Emily.
He raised his hand and patted Emily on the back with coldness in his eyes. "I won't marry Leah."
Hearing this, Emily smiled. She put her arms around Mark’s neck and said, "So can you stay here with me tonight and don't go anywhere, okay?"
At this moment, the driver outside couldn't help knocking at the door.
Mark let him come in.
Then Emily let go of Mark and laid back down.
The driver looked at Mark carefully and finally whispered, "Sir, I got a call from Madame. She said she was waiting for you to go back."
Mark didn't respond, but the atmosphere was depressed again.
Emily gritted her teeth and her hands under the cover tightly held the bed sheet.
"I know."
After a while, Mark replied.
The driver left the ward wisely.
"Have a good rest. I'll come to see you tomorrow."
Biting her lips sightly, Emily said, "She just waited for you for a while. What about me? Don't you care about my life or death? If so, why do you appear in front of me and give me hope?"
Emily was on the verge of breaking down. Her voice was hoarse and dry, making people feel distressed for her.
Mark's knitted brows gradually smoothed down, and there was an apologetic look in his eyes. This time, he took the initiative to hug Emily and comforted her, "Sorry, I'll be here. I won't go anywhere."
After the doctor had bandaged Leah's wound, she sat quietly on the edge of the bed holding her phone and staring out the window.
She didn't dare to call Mark. In the end, she only told the driver to give Mark a message for her.
She didn't even dare to ask Mark where he was.
The snow outside the window was getting heavier. Under the yellowish street lights, the snow was vast, and nothing couldn't be seen.
Leah skipped a beat for no reason as if something was about to happen.
At two o'clock in the morning, her phone buzzed and she answered it in a hurry.
Before she could say anything, she heard a low crying voice from the other end of the line. "Leah, your grandpa is dying. The hospital has informed him of a critical condition. Take Mark to see him for the last time."
Her mother's voice was intermittent and hoarse.
After a short pause, she burst into tears. Leah opened her mouth several times, but couldn't say anything.
She raised her hand to touch her forehead. Tears welled up in her eyes and her hands trembled.
"I'll be right there."
"Wait a minute. Grandpa wants to say something to you."
At a loss, Leah stood by the window, biting her fingers until a weak voice came from the phone.
"Leah..."
"Grandpa, I'm here."
Leah tried her best to control her trembling sound. She saw her pale face reflected in the window.
"Leah, the biggest regret of my life is that I never got to see you get married in a wedding dress."
After saying only one sentence, Leah’s grandpa coughed so badly that he couldn't go on talking.
Tears blurred Leah’s vision. She covered her mouth, afraid of crying out.
"Grandpa, hold on. I'm coming to see you now. You must wait for me!"
Hung up the phone in a panic, Leah only wrapped up a trench coat and then ran out like crazy, even forgetting the wound on her foot.
On the way to the garage, she kept calling Mark, but there was only a busy tone on the other end of the phone.
She had no choice but to call the driver again.
"Please tell him that my grandpa is seriously ill and wants to see him for the last time. I beg him."
The driver hung up the phone and sighed.
He could only knock on the door again. This time, Mark was a little impatient and said in a more cold voice, "Come in."
When the driver entered the room, he saw that Emily had fallen asleep, but her hands were tightly clasped with the hands of Mark.
"What's the matter?"
"It is Madame..."
As soon as the driver mentioned Leah, Mark interrupted coldly. "I don't want to hear anything about her. Get out."
Thinking of the trembling sound of Leah on the phone, the driver braced himself to continue, "Sir, Madame has something very important..."
"F**k off!"
The driver was frightened. In spite of all his sympathy for Leah, he dared not speak of it.
"Yes, sir."
After closing the door gently, the driver took a deep breath. It seemed that he couldn't help Madame.
The wind and snow rolled against the windows. Leah’s hands holding the steering wheel were still trembling. The Bluetooth-connected screen in the car was still dialing Mark's phone, but there was still no response.
When Leah passed by a wedding dress shop, she slammed on the brake and stumbled to the shop.
Looking at the wedding dress on the model by the window, Leah was stunned. She took out a note from the car, left a number on it, and stuck it on the window. Then without hesitation, she took out a fire extinguisher and threw it at the window.
Although Leah got to the hospital as fast as she could, it took more than half an hour.
Leah’s mother Anna was waiting for her in the corridor. When she saw Leah in a wedding dress coming out of the elevator, she was stunned.
The whole body of Leah was trembling with cold, and her lips were a little purple. Her face was very pale.
Her bandaged feet were also frozen to the point of unconsciousness and could only be hidden under the hem of the dress.
Anna looked back but didn't see Mark.
All of a sudden, Anna understood what had happened. Her red and swollen eyes were filled with tears again. She walked forward and held Leah tightly. "To wait for you, your grandpa has been holding his last breath. Go in to see him."
All the people of the Spencer family were guarding the door of the ward, leaving only Leah with Grandpa Spencer.
The old man with gray temples was lying on the bed and had lost consciousness. He didn't struggle to stretch out his hand until Leah called him Grandpa.
Standing beside the bed, Leah tried her best to restrain her emotions. She held back tears, half bent over her body, and buried her face in Grandpa's hands.
"Grandpa, I'm here to see you. I'm wearing a wedding dress. Do you like it?"
"Grandpa, don't leave me alone, please!"
Leah was trembling all over. Tears were flowing from the corners of Grandpa's eyes. Without seeing the appearance of Mark, he had already known that his granddaughter had not been happy in the past three years.
"Leah,"
Grandpa's voice was very weak that Leah hurriedly put her ear close to him and asked, "What did you say, Grandpa?"
"Be yourself... To pursue your own happiness."
As soon as he finished his words, Grandpa took his last breath and dropped his hand.
The instrument began to make a harsh sound, and people outside rushed in, including doctors and nurses, her parents, and the rest of the Spencer family.
Leah’s ears were in a mess, and all the sounds were suddenly magnified several times, which made her feel a sting in her eardrum. Someone kept calling out her name, but Leah was still losing her strength. Her sight began to blur and finally, she fainted.
Late on Christmas night, Leah's grandfather passed away.
Chapter 3 Sharp tongue
According to Grandpa Spencer's last wish, the Spencer family didn't make a big deal about his funeral. Only a few relatives and friends went to the scene to mourn.
Standing still in front of the tombstone, Leah’s eyes were a little empty. She didn't understand why her grandpa, who loved her most, left her overnight.
"Mark is too much! How could he treat our daughter like this and still be with other women at such a time?"
All of a sudden, Richard slammed his phone on the ground and walked in the direction of Leah. "Divorce! Divorce him!"
Anna hurriedly grabbed him, "Shut up! Telling Leah this at this point would only make her more uncomfortable and make her life unwell!"
"Making her life bad? I think it's more like living bad for her to stay with Mark. Even if you stop me, today I'm going to scold her until she clears her head!"
"Shh, keep your voice down. I beg you!"
Hearing the quarrel in her ear, Leah came to her senses. She looked at the phone on the ground subconsciously, walked over, and picked it up.
On the phone, there was a photo of Mark accompanying Emily in the hospital. The two of them hugged each other, looking very warm and romantic, just like the hero and heroine in the novel.
Strangely enough, when Leah looked at this photo, she didn't have any other feelings. She just smiled with self-mockery. It turned out that Mark ignored her several calls just to accompany Emily.
Richard walked over and said angrily, "If you are a member of the Spencer family, you should divorce that person!"
There was a coldness in the eyes of Leah, but her face was expressionless.
She didn't say anything.
Looking at Leah who looked like having peeled a skin, Anna felt sorry for her daughter. She pulled Richard over and said, "Well, don't make things worse!"
After Grandpa Spencer's funeral, Leah was taken to the hospital with a fever of 39 degrees.
On the way to the hospital, she called Mark's name in a daze.
Hearing that, Anna burst into tears but was also disappointed in her daughter. "What a fool!"
After a day and a night, Leah finally regained consciousness.
When she woke up, she said, "I want to go back to the Lyman family."
Richard was so angry that he almost wanted to slap her to clear her mind. Meanwhile, Anna wanted to persuade Leah, but she could not bear to criticize her.
In the end, they could only compromise with her decision.
The driver prepared a car and sent her back to the Lyman family.
When Mark's grandma saw Leah’s pale face and thinner figure, she was very distressed for Leah. "Leah, where have you been these days? I called you, but you didn't answer."
"Grandma, I came back to say goodbye to you."
Leah’s voice was very gentle, but compared with before, it was very firm.
Grandma Lyman was stunned, "Say goodbye?"
"Yeah, I'm going to divorce Mark. Please take care of yourself."
After saying that, Leah went upstairs to pack up her clothes.
Grandma Lyman pushed her presbyopic glasses and said angrily, "What did Mark do to make Leah angry again?"
She immediately called Mark, "No matter where you are, come back now, or I will break off the relationship with you!"
An hour later, Mark came back from the hospital.
"Do you know that your wife is divorcing you? How did you bully her again?" said Grandma Lyman angrily.
Mark pressed his thin lips tightly and his face turned cold.
‘What was that woman up to? If she was willing to divorce, she wouldn't have been shameless to pester me for the past three years!’ Mark’s mind was full of malicious speculation about Leah.
At this time, Leah had packed up her things. When she went downstairs with her suitcase, she saw Mark standing straight in the living room. He still carried the cold air of returning from outside, and his face always looked very indifferent.
In the past three years, he had never smiled in front of her.
At this time, when Leah saw this man, there were no waves, no hatred, no love.
She just wanted to be apart from him and never see him again.
Mark couldn't see her, but when he smelled the faint fragrance of her body, he knew that she was standing not far away from him.
He sneered, "What's wrong with you? Are you trying to force me to give you a wedding by using the divorce to threaten me, right?"
"I have put the divorce agreement in your room. Let your lawyer have a look at it. If there's no problem, sign it and send it to me."
Her voice was cold, not as timid and obedient as before.
Mark was stunned. When he felt that she passed by him, he accurately grabbed her wrist and asked, "What are you plotting?"
Grandma Lyman couldn't stand it anymore. She was so angry that her breath quickened. She stood up, walked to Mark, and slapped him.
Leah was a little surprised, but she didn't say anything.
Mark frowned but hid all his emotion in his eyes.
"Do you have any conscience?"
"In the past three years, she has been taking good care of you. Afraid that you might get hurt, she wrapped up all the edges of the furniture in the house. She has been taking care of your life and diet. What on earth does she owe you?"
After saying that, Grandma Lyman turned around and held her hand tightly. "Good girl, I know you have suffered a lot these years. I support you to divorce Mark. But can you have a good talk with him for the sake of me?"
"There should be an end, right?"
Mark sneered, "Yeah, we have to make the details of the divorce clear."
Without any hesitation, Mark took Leah upstairs and back to their room. After entering the room, he shook off her hand and said, "Do you think I will fall into your trap?"
Leah’s knees hit the corner of the bed. She gritted her teeth in pain, but habitually kept silent.
She stood up with the help of the bed and smiled into the cold eyes of Mark.
"Mark, you are so pitiful."
"What did you say?"
Mark's voice was serious, and there was already anger in it. He approached her step by step, "Are you crazy today?"
Leah was forced to sit down on the edge of the bed. Mark put one of his legs against the edge of the bed, blocking the direction she was going to escape. His hands clamped on her chin, forcing her to lie half on the bed.
Mark was so high that he blocked all her light.
"You just deceived Grandma with this kind of trick? It won't attract my attention at all."
All Leah’s emotions in the past few days piled up, and she finally couldn't help but vent after hearing this.
"Attract your attention? Can you see it? If you were not blind, you would have been with your lover long ago, right?"
"Well," said Leah with a sneer, word by word, "you treasure her, but I remember that she went abroad for two years when she knew you were blind."
Words were indeed soft knives, killing people, without a trace.
Chapter 4 Offense
Mark was furious that Leah had just laid the reality out in front of him.
All of a sudden, Mark tightened his grip on her neck, making her cry in pain.
Although he couldn't see, anger was rolling in his dark eyes.
When the atmosphere was tense and suffocating, the voice of Grandma’s maid Linda came from outside.
"Sir, Master asked me to bring tea here."
Only then did Mark suppress his anger and suddenly let go of Leah.
"Come in!"
Linda took two cups of tea in front of the two, raised one of the cups, and handed it to Mark. "Master said this is separated tea. According to the rules of the Lyman family, since you and Madame are about to divorce, you should drink all the tea and then break up."
And the other cup was handed to Leah.
Leah’s white fingertips rubbed along the body of the cup, and a faint bitter smile flashed across her lips. Then she drank up the tea.
Frowning, Mark stopped and didn't drink the tea at once.
He felt confused in his mind. ‘What's wrong with her today? Was she really going to divorce me, not acting?’
Noticing his hesitation, Linda asked, "Sir?"
"Get out of the Lyman family and never come back again!"
After saying that, Mark also drank the tea.
After watching the two drink the tea, Linda left the room and locked the door quietly.
When she went downstairs to the living room, she immediately reported her achievement to Grandma Lyman. "Master, all they have drunk it, and I have locked the door, but I’m afraid that this method is too extreme."
Grandma Lyman sighed helplessly, "They have been married for three years, and now they are in such a mess. This is the only way to have a try. No matter what the result is, let’s mention it tomorrow. Just delay it if possible."
In the room, when Leah found that the door couldn't be opened, she gradually sensed that something was wrong.
She shouted for a long time, but there was no response.
However, Mark, who was standing behind her, didn't move at all. After drinking the tea, his cold face looked a little unnatural and his eyes were filled with testiness.
Turning around slightly, Leah saw a painful expression on his face.
A few minutes later.
At this time, Mark’s consciousness was a little confused.
"What's wrong with you?"
There was no response.
As soon as Leah took a step forward, she thought of Grandpa's regretful look on the bed and what Grandpa had said to her. She suddenly stopped.
However, Mark stumbled towards her. His eyes were full of lust.
Leah was startled and had no time to escape.
In an instant, the faint fragrance of citrus fruit aroma from Mark enveloped her, making her nowhere to escape.
"Mark! What are you doing?"
Leah’s voice was anxious and her body was trembling with fear.
In the past three years, they had been in the same bed without crossing the boundary. For countless nights, she could only watch his cold back and fall asleep.
But now,
Leah pinched Mark’s shoulder with her nails. Her tears streamed down, and her throat was a little dry. She could only beg him to let go of her.
"Mark! No! Please don't force me to hate you..."
Unfortunately, Mark didn't show any mercy to her. He squinted at her with his cold and turbid eyes and said coldly, "Isn't this what you have always wanted?"
