YORÙBÁ

Yoruba is widely spoken in majorly West African countries of Nigeria, in Benin Republic, and some parts of Togo and Sierra Leone, now by international communities due to its uniqueness and moral teachings. It constitutes one of the major languages spoken in sub-saharan Africa. Yoruba is also spoken in Cuba, Brazil, Portugal, etc. Besides English, it has become the second official language in Brazil. Students acquire the Yoruba language at basic, elementary or tertiary level.

The Yoruba people are one of the most skilled and productive groups in Arts and Crafts in Africa.

There are various traditional rites for various events in Yorubaland. One of these notable events is traditional marriage ceremony. "Ekún ìyàwó" (Bride's song) is sung by the wife who is to be given out in marriage to her husband. It is tears of joy, a farewell song to her family who have, having fulfilled all marriage requirements, culminated in giving her to a new family. This is one of the most significant parts of a marriage ceremony in Yoruba traditional system.

In view of this, we are reliably excited to inform you that Àmù Òrò crew would be performing live at Agip Hall, MUSCON Center Lagos on July 23, 2022 @ 4.00pm.

A stage play, "Ekún ìyàwó" by Adeniyi Faleti would be performed.
