An update:
We were let know Wednesday night that there was going to be a hearing Thursday for Taylor trying to gain his freedom due to the two years being up. Thursday neither Taylor’s lawyer nor interpreter showed up, this was an in person hearing.
Early this morning was a video conference hearing at which both his lawyer and interpreter were present. The public prosecutors as well as our lawyers argued that he poses a threat to us and to the community. He has prior offenses adding to that point, and he is a flight risk not having any ties in Cancun or even the state of Quintanaroo. Also- his lawyers filed necessary paperwork one day late.
His lawyers attempted to argue that there’s no proof that he’s dangerous, he’s been a model prisoner, and there were other actions that could be taken such as house arrest, ankle monitors or taking his documents allowing him to leave.
The judge decided that Taylor does in fact pose a threat to our family, friends, and the community as a whole. She also stated Taylor has no ties in Mexico, and the means to leave, making him an obvious flight risk. It was decided that the precautionary measure of holding him in prison was for the best given the complicated nature of the trial and investigation as well as other reasons.
Taylor has the right to appeal this decision, but without significant ties in Mexico, this is unlikely.
The holding period has been extended to August 4th, 2024, at which point if trial has still not occurred we’ll go back to court to have him held longer.
Further, the judge ordered that the appeal for the evidence be hurried along so that we will not have to be back at this point of not having been to trial by the time the holding period is up.
We still don’t have a trial date due to the appeals, but our family takes comfort in that he’s staying in prison.
