Part one drops TODAY!!! The collaboration with the Navajo Nation for this episode was a long process in the making and I am so excited to share this with our community. I was blown away at everything we learned- without the Navajo Nation’s significant contributions in our history, our life would not be the same. Resilience lives in their genes and their values can teach our children so much about what it means to live in harmony and peace with the world. Thank you to the Executive Director, Mr Justin Ahasteen for being so involved in the process and trusting us to craft this episode. Please stay tuned. You don’t want to miss this one.

I know we post only the “good” moments but being a solo independent podcaster with a strong mission that may not be welcomed with open arms by many educators- can be a very discouraging and an exhausting process. It’s been an eye opening experience, realizing that many educators I’ve respected for a long time do not believe that discussions on diversity and inclusion should belong in classrooms. But moments like this, when we are being acknowledged by industry leaders for the late nights, early mornings and sacrifices is what keeps us going. Every episode is crafted from a place of love and inclusion- for that immigrant child who feels unheard and ignored at school, for the little boy wanting to wear a pink dress to school but is afraid to do so, and for the underrepresented communities and families that is longing to feel welcomed and celebrated for who they are. We see you and we are here for you. Thank you again for seeing our mission. I believe at the core of my heart that if we raise a generation of children that will learn to celebrate differences rather than fear them, we can change the world.

Happy LNY!!! ❤️❤️❤️🌈
This holiday season is has its historical roots in ancient China, but did you know that it is celebrated in multiple countries in their own ways and own traditions? For example, in Korea, red is not considered a lucky color during this season as the Nien Monster is not a part of the country’s mythology- so the holiday there is celebrated in multiple, festive colors! ❤️Check out our LNY episodes celebrating the diversity of this special holiday with Ms Sophie Tran representing Vietnam, and stay tuned as Miss Panda is back next week to continue on with the 15 day celebrations representing Chinese communities across the globe! And for Korean celebrations, check out our episode from last year on Seollal❤️❤️ Thank you to everyone celebrating with us and for honoring our families and traditions..heart is full today from so much love.

I believe that children fall into the cycle of peer pressure and neglect their inner voices because they are not taught how to celebrate and respect other people’s differences. This eventually leads to constant people pleasing, low self esteem, and neglecting their greatest needs. It is ALWAYS okay to be different. And EVERY family- black, brown, white, gold, divorced, adopted, separated, fostered, rich, poor, immigrant, mixed, whatever their situation is- is divinely created with a purpose and shines in their own unique ways. ❤️ Come as you are.

Sharing Our Culture—an Irish Halloween Podcast for Kids!

During a special podcast presentation by the award-winning Culture Kids Media this October our Summer Program Director Ms. Máire Clerkin talked about the Irish origins of Halloween and engaged in a spirited dialogue about traditions and folklore surrounding the October holiday.

LISTEN: https://www.culturekidsmedia.com/halloween-history-exploring-the-irish-origins/?mc_cid=f6103d5eff

Culture Kids podcast is a family podcast dedicated to empowering a generation of kind and empathetic innovators, creators and citizens of the world. Through exploring different cultures, languages, and traditions around the world they hope to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse culture and geographies for families everywhere.

Thanks to Kristin Kim and her co-host and 6-year-old son Asher for inviting the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco to be a part of your program. And thanks to our resident folklore specialist and storyteller extraordinaire Máire Clerkin for fielding the questions and enthusiastically sharing her knowledge.

Have you ever wondered . . . . What’s the history of Halloween and its Irish origins? What does Halloween look like in Ireland? How do people celebrate it? Are there any games or traditional practices families like to participate in? What makes them unique/special to the country? Is it like Halloween in America? Are there any special foods that families like to eat at Halloween?

Have you heard our latest episode on how Sardinia celebrates the dead during this time of the year? Pan e saba is a special bread with red wine to represent blood, and “bones of the dead” biscuits are a sweet reminder of honoring loved ones on All Saints Day.

As my children woke up from their cozy beds and ate their nutritious breakfast in peace, I will never understand why halfway across the world there are children experiencing unimaginable trauma, suffering as the greatest victims of this state of terror created by adults. What would the world look like if every adult, especially those in power, could make their decisions with the well being of all children at the forefront…just imagine.
