Music to Get Your 80’s Hairdo
What happened in the 80s and why it affects our lives even today? Let’s see, Ernő Rubik invented the best-selling toy in the world, the Rubik’s Cube. Nintendo was debuted. VIdeo arcades with Pac-Man opened their gates. Star Wars movies gained a huge popularity. The Falkland Islands War began between Great Britain and Argentina. Mikhail Gorbachev became the leader of the Soviet Union. “We Are the World”, a hit single was recorded to raise attention and feed Africa’s hungry. The worst nuclear accident occured in Chernobyl. Osama bin Laden formed Al Qaeda. The first annual World AIDS Day was held. Sally Ride became the first American woman in outer space. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was released. Bruce Springsteen releases his album "Born in the U.S.A." And the internet was born.
As we can see, these events are still with us. Although we have slowly entered one of the most exciting decades 40 years ago, generations are still growing under its influence. Musically, undeniably that is one of the most colourful decade: the rock cult of the 60's and 70's continued to grow, while disco and pop went through an overwhelming expansion. The subcultures soared, somehow everyone fitted in the right environment, and yet community venues like cinemas, plazas, music shops and arcades brought people of all kinds of interests together.
This playlist has also been dedicated to all music lovers to enjoy it - as we are experiencing a renaissance of the 80s, more and more current artists use this decade’s diversity as an influence and root in their music. This is also an open platform either as a new mascot on the waves of present-day streaming services or as an “old hand” whose worldwide success began in this vivid era.
