Veteran actor Arun Bali, best known for his work on TV show “Swabhimaan” and blockbuster hit “3 Idiots”, died on Friday morning at his residence in suburban Mumbai. He was 79.

Ankush said his father was responding well to the treatment but passed away at around 4.30 am.

“My father left us. He was suffering from Myasthenia gravis. He had mood swings for two-three days. He told the caretaker he wanted to go to the washroom and after coming out he told him he wanted to sit down and he never got up then,” he told PTI.

Richa Chadha questions Lawrence Bishnoi's security cover: 'Two guards for Sidhu Moose Waala, ten for Bishnoi' | The Sprunt

Richa Chadha has questioned the heightened security cover being given to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the key suspect in rapper Sidhu Moose Wala's murder case. Richa asked why the criminal, who is currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail in a separate case, is provided high security on his court outings, while Sidhu was only allotted two guards. Sidhu was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover.
Richa took to her Twitter account on Tuesday to express her disappointment with the difference in Lawrence and Sidhu's security. She wrote in Punjabi, "Moosewale nu 2 guard te Lawrence Bishnoi nu 10 di remand, naale bodyguards te Dilli pulis di sab ton vadiya dangerous bullet proof gaddi (Only 2 guards were given to Moose Wala while 10 have been remanded to Lawrence Bishnoi, in addition to the best and dangerous bulletproof car of Delhi Police)." She added a broken hearts emoji and the hashtag--Justice For Sidhu Moosa Wala.

Fans of Sidhu thanked Richa for supporting him, adding that they want justice for the late singer. A fan wrote, "Thanks a lot for support Ji. Huge Respect!" Another person replied to her tweet, "You are completely right."

Richa had previously expressed shock at Sidhu's death and sympathised with his mother. She had written on Twitter, "Numb, shocked at the murder of too sad. No words will be enough. Thinking of his mother… worst kind of pain in the world to lose a child. Jatt da muqabla dass mainu kitthe hai? 28! (Is there any match for a Jatt)."

Dhaakad box office collection: Kangana Ranaut’s film sells 20 tickets and collects Rs 4420 on day 8 | The Sprunt

Kangana Ranaut- starrer action film Dhaakad had the dubious honour of collecting only Rs 4,420 on the eighth day of its theatrical journey and selling only 20 tickets across the country. These figures are as per Bollywood Hungama. That the film was a disaster was apparent from day one itself. Overall, Dhaakad has made around Rs 3 crore, continuing Kangana’s long streak of box office underperformance.

Dhaakad reportedly cost between Rs 80 crore to Rs 90 crore to make, and according to a separate Bollywood Hungama report, is struggling to find streaming distribution as the producers didn’t crack the deals prior to release.
Directed by Razneesh Ghai, Dhaakad also stars Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee. Dhaakad received mixed reviews, but moviegoers seem to have given the film a complete pass.
“The simple, uncomplicated storyline is that Agni became an agent after a shocking incident from childhood when her parents were shot by a man of whom she has a faint memory. Now, she is leading the Agency’s investigation of a trafficking ring running out of central India, and reaching up to Budapest (that keeps popping up almost like a backyard to Bhopal) and a Sheikh with origins in the Middle East.” By Indian Express

Baljeet Kaur: First Indian to scale four 8,000-m peaks in less than a month | The Sprunt

Now, Baljeet Kaur has extended her record by becoming the first Indian mountaineer to scale four 8,000-metre peaks in less than a month.

27-year-old Baljeet created the record when she scaled Mt Lhotse (8,517 m) on Sunday with her guide Mingma Sherpa. Lhotse which is part of the Everest massif is the fourth highest mountain in the world.
The mountaineer from Himachal Pradesh completed this feat a day after she summited Mt Everest, the highest mountain in the world. Her attempt on Everest and Lhotse came just two weeks after she scaled two other massive eight-thousanders: Mt. Annapurna I and Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Baljeet climbed Mt. Annapurna I (8091-metre) on April 28 and Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586-metre) on May 12 - both of them relatively dangerous to climb. With that,
she became the first Indian woman to summit within two weeks, but she didn't rest on her laurels.
Baljeet comes from a humble background in Himachal. Amrik Singh's father is a bus driver with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation. The family lives in Panjrol village in Solan district. She is one among the three children.
Eight-thousanders have an exalted place in mountaineering. These are peaks towering above 8000 metres. That height is critical in climbing as it's the 'Death Zone', where oxygen levels are too low for normal functions. There are 14 of eight-thousanders in the world. Wonder which one she is eyeing next. By EconomicTimes

Gurpreet Singh: Book by former Amnesty International India director breaks the myth created around Modi.

If you still believe that the leader of the world’s so-called largest democracy can deliver and change the fate of India, Aakar Patel might force you to rethink that idea.

Price of the Modi Years is a detailed and well-researched book by the former journalist and ex-head of Amnesty International India, who provides deep insights into the performance of the Indian prime minister.
Nothing can be timelier, given the completion of Narendra Modi's eight years in power this month. As many around the world look upon him with awe in spite of his divisive and regressive politics, Patel has tried to hold him to account for all the hype and misrule under his regime.
Modi was first elected as prime minister in May 2014. Many believed that he would transform India after having served as chief minister of Gujarat, which witnessed anti-Muslim pogroms on his watch in 2002. However, partly blinded by religious majoritarianism and partly due to weak political leadership in the past, voters gave him a huge mandate with high expectations.

Unsurprisingly, attacks on religious minorities, especially Muslims and political dissidents, have grown since then. After all, Modi is the leader of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party that aspires to turn India into a dictatorship and religious theocracy.

Patel’s book goes into the facts to prove how India has not only become intolerant toward non-Hindus but has become highly undemocratic by muzzling any voice of resistance. One of the chapters in the book is dedicated to the jailed scholars and activists who are being incarcerated on trumped-up charges, while another one challenges legal hurdles created to disrupt the smooth functioning of the right to information.
Notably, Patel himself became a target of witch hunts and smear campaigns for questioning Modi throughout his book. His name was included in the "look-out notice" to prevent him from travelling abroad to promote his book and shed light on the current toxic political environment in the country.

What might have angered Modi and his party is that Patel comes from Gujarat, the state that Modi once represented. Thus, Patel cannot be silenced easily by being branded as anti-Hindu or anti-Gujarat, as when such criticism comes from Muslim or Sikh commentators.

Patel authored Our Hindu Rashtra: What It Is, How We Got Here in the past. That book is highly critical of Hindu supremacy practised by Modi and his cohorts. On one occasion, Patel's Twitter account was blocked, the author reveals in Price of the Modi Years.

The book is like a charge sheet against the Modi administration which has failed on every front, including development, democracy, transparency, human rights, good governance, and foreign policies. Patel writes about how the lapdog media of India has also become a willing partner in the actions of Modi by either looking away or obediently toeing the line of the government in New Delhi.

If Modi has succeeded in anything, it’s the remaking of India as a conservative and illiberal nation that shamelessly treats non-Hindus as second-class citizens. This leaves hope only in the hands of the marginalized sections, such as Adivasis, Dalits, women or religious minorities fighting for survival and change. By Straight.com | The Sprunt

Mahesh Babu Gets Trolled For Promoting To***co, Netizens Say 'Bollywood Can’t Afford You, But Pan Masala Can'

There seems to be no end to the controversy regarding Mahesh Babu’s recent ‘Bollywood cannot afford me’ comment. Now, the Telugu star is facing backlash on social media for promoting a to***co brand wherein netizens are also dragging his Bollywood remark. Mahesh Babu became a part of a pan masala advertisement last year. While the campaign also starred Tiger Shroff, netizens have now unearthed the advertisement to attack Mahesh Babu.

Several social media users took to Twitter questioning the megastar for promoting a to***co brand. “Bollywood can’t afford Mahesh Babu but pan masala can," one of the tweets read. Another person wrote, “I assume only TFI stars like are allowed to sell Pan Masala products, while the rest are abused for doing the same. Nice double standards"

For the unversed, Mahesh Babu was asked about his Hindi debut during a recent event to which the actor said that Bollywood cannot afford him. “I did get a lot of offers in Hindi, but I don’t think they can afford me. I don’t want to waste my time working in an industry which can’t afford me. The stardom and the respect I get here (in South) is huge, so I never really thought of leaving my industry and going to some other industry. I have always thought of doing films and becoming bigger. My dream is coming true now and I can’t be happier," Mahesh Babu said.

However, later, the actor issued a clarification and mentioned that his statement ‘was blown out of proportion’. “Mahesh has clarified that he loves cinema and respects all languages. He said he is comfortable doing the film where he has been working. Mahesh said he is happy to see his dream coming true as Telugu cinema is going places," the statement read.
