The latest JAZZ JUST AFTER DARK (9/10) may have been the best yet. A celebration of our great city as much as a 9/11 commemoration. More so, the monstrous trumpet player, first-call session artist Mac Gollehon joined us in the studio for an interview and live performance—including a duo with yours truly to debut my new poem, “Night for Day: 11 of 9”. It doesn’t get more moving. Here’s the show link and our very NY-centric playlist. It includes vital jazz of the city, natch, but also the must-hear ballad by vocalist Maria Gentile , “Amputated Skyline”. As we reflect on the twentieth anniversary of tragedy, I feel that our survival has been in our refusal by not turn away, and to love life.

Friday’s JAZZ JUST AFTER DARK W/ JOHN PIETARO (3/12) on MakerParkRadio.NYC was the first of our two episodes dedicated to Women's History Month, with a plethora of women-led music and an intriguing interview with bari sax maven CLAIRE DALY. If you missed the show, see the link below to catch it in the archives. Producer Laurie Towers and I had a blast though working through some technical difficulties including one broken CD player. In haste, it caused me to play the wrong song few times, but every selection was golden. ALSO we acknowledged the recent birthdays of Ornette, Bix, Dom Minasi and painter Denise Iacovone. What a show!
