"Three people found selling $10,000 of crack co***ne at motel"

Police were sent to Motel 6 in Southington on Thursday to assist with an arrest involving the procession and sale of drugs.

They were identified as George Estes-James, 30; Yairi L. Matriz, 27; Angel M. Mercado, 29; Donna Catalano, 40, all of Waterbury.

Officers checked the area and found one of the suspect’s car parked in front of the Denny’s nearby the motel.

Matriz and Estes-James were seen in the car manufacturing drugs for personal use and sales.

A K9 search alerted officers to the small knapsack found in the vehicle containing a gun, nine rounds of ammunition, cash, and drug paraphernalia.

Officers checking the motel room also found Mercado and Catalano.

During an interview with Catalano and Mercado, they observed drug paraphernalia similar to that seized earlier in the vehicle, along with signs of drug use.

In total, officers seized 97.9 grams of crack co***ne packaged for sale, with an estimated street value of approximately $10,000.00.

"Suspect in Brookfield murder makes 1st court appearance"

The man accused of murder in a drug-related shooting in Brookfield back in May appeared for the first time in court Friday.

Devon Dennis, 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, did not enter a plea when he appeared in Orange County Court. He faces charges of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Juan Sierra, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, and another count of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of Miguel Fuentes, 29, also of Springfield.

According to court paperwork, Dennis stayed at the home off Route 14 where witnesses say he sold drugs. On May 12, Fuentes and Sierra went to the home to buy a truck from someone else living there. Witnesses told police another resident met with the men outside to buy drugs from them. The affidavit states Dennis approached both outside and fired his gun two times. killing Sierra and injuring Fuentes.

Dennis was eventually arrested by Homeland Security in July after traveling to Jamaica soon after the shootings.

Dennis is expected back in court early next week and is being held without bail.

"Barre man admits sexual contact with two children"

A Granite City man has admitted to having sexual contact with two children and has agreed to a deferred sentence.

Robert Bartlett, 58, pleaded guilty Thursday in Washington County criminal court in Barre to a felony count of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and a misdemeanor count of cruelty to a child. Bartlett has agreed to a sentence of three months to one year, all suspended, on the misdemeanor conviction and a three-year deferred sentence on the felony conviction.

He will be sentenced at a later date after the Department of corrections completes a pre sentence investigation.

He is expected to be placed on probation for three years. If he successfully completes probation, the felony conviction could be removed from his record. If Bartlett violates his probation conditions, the conviction stays on his record, and he would face open sentencing on the felony, with a maximum sentence of 15 years to serve.

The state agreed to dismiss a second felony count of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and a felony count of cruelty to a child by subjecting them to sexual conduct. It also amended a felony count of cruelty to a child to a misdemeanor, per the plea agreement.

Deputy State’s Attorney Zachery Weight said at Thursday’s hearing the two victims did not want to give a statement for the hearing, nor did he believe they would want to give a statement when Bartlett is sentenced. Weight said the victims support the plea agreement, which keeps them from having to testify if this case were to go to trial.

He said this agreement creates a period of supervision for Bartlett and resolves the case in a way that the victims and their family support.

Bartlett is represented by attorney Robert Sussman.

Judge John Pacht noted the charges Bartlett pleaded guilty to only involve one of the two victims. Bartlett said he understood he would have to accept responsibility for his actions against both victims as part of his counseling while on probation.

According to court records, police received a report in March 2022 stating two children, both 10 years old at the time, had reported they were touched by Bartlett. Police said this occurred when Bartlett and the children were at a hotel in Waterbury.

Police said one of the victims typically spent one day a week with Bartlett and they sometimes went to a hotel because Bartlett’s wife wanted to rest when she gets home from work. The second victim was a friend of the first victim, according to court records.

Bartlett also showed the children an inappropriate photo, according to court records.

Police said the first victim reported Bartlett had touched her “private parts” on multiple occasions over her clothes. The second victim reported she had been Inappropriately by Barlett, as well.
