I suppose this is a fitting place to start; Released in August 1990, charting at number 1 for several weeks, and the first piece of music in the original Wedge intro. It’s also fitting because Janes Addiction was one of a handful of bands that helped usher in 90’s alternative music.
Jane's Addiction remain a one of a kind band and to this day the music world hasn’t seen another frontman quite like Perry Ferrel.
..
Now, a bit about this page:
It’s not about looking back at the glory days of music television. At least not entirely. It’s about reviving music and music journalism in 2021.
Most music stations end up becoming reality TV trash, and music blogs inevitably sell out to the highest bidder when they become successful.
That’s not going to happen to us. The Wedge was cancelled. But it didn’t have to be. It just needed to evolve.
So it wasn’t profitable. Fine. But you can now run a TV channel with a Gopro and a YouTube account. And of course at least one person that actually cares about music, and culture.
The network - who’s name I won’t utter - that was originally home to The Wedge recently started up again. I’m not sure what it is as the content is... confusing to the say the least.
Do we really need to go on Tik Tok to listen to Justin Beiber? If you want pop. Go on Spotify. Go anywhere because it’s everywhere.
What we do need are curators. There are millions of songs on Spotify that don’t have a single play. Someone needs to mine that mess for gold. That’s what this is. In part. It’s not about trying to make underground artists into stars. It’s about celebrating the most important music over the past 70 years. There is more of it than you can listen to in a lifetime. Someone also needs to mine that as well.
Lastly, a promise: if some rich, clueless executive ever tries to take over this channel, I’m burning it down.
