According to the Osmani Empire tradition, he was the leader of the Qayi tribe of Oguz Turks, Suleiman Shah's son, who had settled in Anatolia from West Central Asia to escape the Mongol invasion,After his father's death, Ertugarul his followers entered the border of the Sultanate of Rome, for which he gained dominion over the city of Sogut on the border with the Byzantine Empire. This set off the chain of events that would eventually lead to the founding of the Osmani Empire.Like his son, Osman, and his descendants, Artugul is often referred to as Ghazi, a heroic champion fighter for the causes of Islam.
