Today we honor our atomic veterans. July 16,1945 at 5:29am the first nuclear weapon was detonated, code name Trinity. A few weeks later two bombs were dropped on Japan, ending WWII. Decades later our atomic veterans are getting the recognition they deserve, many posthumously. The pictures show the front and back of the medals that are now being provided to those who participated in the atomic weapons tests and their next of kin if they have passed away. If you know an atomic veteran, go to dtra.mil to download the form to request their medal. Thank you to everyone, including my dad, who was subjected to radiation from these tests. 🇺🇸
