Jason, incarcerated at George Bailey Detention Facility— opened in 1991 and the largest such facility operated by the San Diego County Sheriff's office— recounted to us a story about the gross negligence of county sheriffs in ensuring the safety of a fellow inmate who was released alongside him per the current protocols, released with a bus pass and a taxi to the transit station paid for.
When we go to jail, we are strip-searched, our belongings ripped open and inspected without regard for their structural integrity, and the like. How is it then that in the wallet of a returning inmate, they couldn't find a bag of fentanyl?
According to Jason, as they were given their things in the holding cell before boarding their taxi, to the inmate's delight, he found a bag of that cursed drug that is the leading cause of death for folks 18-45.
On the taxi ride to the transit station, the fellow inmate took just two bumps of it, and the rest is history.
We are calling for harm reduction kits to be carried on all public transit in San Diego County, as well as moving public funds away from the San Diego County Sheriff's grotesque $1.16 BILLION dollar approved budget for FY'22-23.
We are being murdered by the willful negligence and violence of the state, and we are through with it. We protect us!
