So if you haven't seen it already this is one of the photos from the James Webb Telescope. The telescope is the latest and greatest and represents the best of current human technological capability. It is no surprise then that this marvel of technology is revealing to us never seen before picture of an absolutely marvelous universe.

What is really interesting though is the irony, that as humanity looks upon the wonders of the universe, with all its complexity, grandeur, and mind blowing scale, they continue to assert that all of this, the spellbinding and breathtaking beauty of universe and everything within it, including the absolute marvel that is the Planet Earth, is a product of randomness. In other words that the universe has no design, or intelligence, nor was it created.

Yet, as people hold to the claim that none of this was created, they fail to consider the very instrument that makes it possible for them to see these remarkable images in the first place. Imagine if someone were to suggest that the James Webb telescope was simply the product of randomness. That it did not have any intelligence behind it nor was it created.

Of course such an idea would never be accepted, nor should it be, because it is ludicrous to suggest that something with the complexity of a telescope just randomly assembled itself together. So why then do we accept the argument that the universe, which is SO MUCH greater and complex than a telescope, is possible without a creator.

Beautiful and Poignant. Powerful 2 minute read.

Julian affirms the existence of another kind of human nature. He refuses to be classified as an object. His example calls upon us to confront radical evil, no matter the cost. To stand with Julian is to stand with yourself. To abandon Julian is to abandon yourself. And if you abandon yourself then your life becomes “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. Signifying nothing.”

Julian Assange gave us knowledge and with that knowledge he gave us power. For this act of defiance, he will never be forgiven by those he exposed.

Instead of just talking to protesters, the Canadian government decided to open Pandora's box and invoke the emergencies act, an unprecedented overreach of government power. Instead of de-escalation, the government took the nuclear option and gave itself the ability to freeze anyone's bank account. Even if you are mistakenly targeted, can you imagine the amount of headache that this might cause for people. Missed payments for your mortgage or car. Inability to put gas in your vehicle or by medicine or groceries. You cannot be so naive as to support these powers simply because you feel a certain way about the COVID virus or the trucker protest.

This is insane. If you think this is acceptable because people were blocking streets, you need to give your head a shake. Today it's truckers, Tomorrow it will be you.

This is appalling: Trudeau is targeting the innocent with his Emergencies Act.

You don't leave your life and lively hood simply to go hang out in another town. You don't put your life on hold simply because you want to cause a disturbance. You don't risk your reputation simply because of idle thoughts. The people in the streets today are complaining that they are not being listened to and the response that they have been met with is to have the government mock them.

What sense does this make? Why do we think that people will listen to us when we're not willing to listen to them. To control the ego is already a very difficult task and it's made even more so by insult and abuse.

This is not a complicated idea. We teach our children that they need to respect others, but our hypocrisy shows when it comes time for us to listen. "Treat others as you want to be treated", we tell children, yet, as so-called "grown-ups", we abandon any notion that we should adhere to higher principles.

We envelope ourselves in the cloak of victimhood and fool ourselves into thinking that our vengeance is actually justice and that it is okay for us to correct a wrong action with another wrong action. In some sense, all this is understandable though, because children's hearts are pure and not yet tainted by ego.

To fix this crisis, all we need to do is ask ourselves a couple of simple questions. How would I respond if my deepest concerns were laughed at and mocked, and would I immediately accept that I was wrong and change my behavior?

The key to an open mind is a loving heart. If you can't see another's perspective, then you need to clean the dirt that has piled up in your own heart. This is difficult because we are holding on to so much baggage. We don't want to let it go because victimhood gives us a sense of identity. It allows us to put the responsibility for change on someone else.

These excuses, however, can no longer be tolerated, since we simply don't have the time. The problems that we are facing today are only likely to get worse if we continue to behave the way we are. We can no longer hide behind the idea that they are doing it to us, so it's okay for us to do it to them. We must adhere to higher principles. We must strive to live a life of virtue.

To sum it all up and put it simply, we can use a phrase that we tell our children: Be The Bigger Man!

The notion that you cannot refer to a word without being labelled racist is absurd. It represents a complete failure of the intellect and speaks volumes about the sensationalist character of many people in contemporary times.

As human beings, we have long ago, established that to apply our current values to people in other times and places is wrong and so to do so whenever we "feel" offended points more toward our lack of virtue rather than to another person's apparent vice.

Rather than to try and control speech by restricting and regulating which words can and cannot be used, which sets a very dangerous precedent, we should seek to create an understanding that context is crucial and that using a word in reference to something is not the same as using a word to insult someone.

Racism is not an act, it is a belief. It is a belief that merely by the color of one's skin that you are "better" than another. It is entirely possible to use a racist word in reference to something and not be a racist in spirit. It is even possible to use a racist word in a moment of anger and still not be a racist.

These distinctions are critical and our inability to process any nuanced thought is a sad reflection of our times. It is a symptom of our binary minds which think only in black and white terms. However, the mind responds to the dictates of the heart and so our binary minds are a symptom of our diseased hearts.

The saddest irony is that to focus on the usage of the word rather than the hearts of human beings ends up making racism worse because as the racist label is continually overused and thrown around with ease it begins to lose its meaning and therefore it's power.

Is it any surprise though that as we drift further and further away from the belief in God that meaning itself is lost and that everything is becoming relative?

Hidden in this story is the answer to humanities salvation.

I am a muslim, born and raised in America. I was in 5th grade when the 9/11 incident happened and because of it, my life was destroyed. I was mercilessly bullied; class fellows smashed me against lockers, calling me a terrorist. What made matters worse was the fact that my birthday is on 9/11: people accused me of celebrating the lives I took, destroying what was supposed to be a happy day for me. One such incident is etched in my mind: I was riding the bus when a boy told me to get up from my seat. When I refused, he said "My father is in the army, he kills people like you everyday." And then he and his friends beat me up while the bus driver turned up the volume of the music. When my stop came, the driver threatened to kick me off the bus if I got into a fight again. Badly bruised, I remember feeling helpless and outraged at the unfairness. But when I got home, my mother helped me calm down and told me to forgive them because it is what our religion teaches us: peace. My mother was and is my strength. She believed in me, gave me the courage to forgive and get over my insecurities. I just hope no one ever goes through what I did, and that one day, Islam can be seen as the religion it is: one that promotes peace and harmony.

There is more to explore here as well. It seems to me that the problem of extremism stems from the heart.

WHAT IS EXTREMISM, ANYWAY?

I remember reading a quote in Arabic that resonated with me. It said something to the effect that extremism is not a philosophy or the fruit of logical thinking. Extremism is rather a mental problem that looks for its approval in philosophy and logical thinking.

We can say the same thing of all these theories that are actually forms of disillusionment. They do not stem from a desire to find the truth but rather from a desire to destroy or take vengeance against a person, a project or a school of thought that has fallen into disfavour in a person's mind.

I read that when Rumi first met Shams Tabrizi he arrogantly dismissed him as a "nobody." People like this make me wonder whose more insane: me or them?

“Run from what’s comfortable. Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on I’ll be mad.” (Rumi)

This one felt good. Its day something or other of A Sunnah A Day Challenge and things are starting to flow. As always todays video is based on the following Prophetic Wisdom:

Suhaib reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Wondrous is the affair of the believer for there is good for him in every matter and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah and thus there is good for him, and if he is harmed, then he shows patience and thus there is good for him.
