Olivarez College—On January 21, the Psychology Department held its General Assembly with a lively pyjama party with the theme “Behind the Curtains of Our Dreams.” Held at the Auditorium, the event was a perfect mix of fun, learning, and camaraderie to welcome the new semester.

Psychology Department President Darlene Mae Barba delivered the welcoming remarks and addressed the objectives of the event. Afterward, the departmental orientation was led by Mr. Jesrine Ian L. Montaño, RPm, Program Chair of the department, introducing the faculty members and presenting the collegiate academic calendar, ensuring both new and returning students were informed and inspired for the upcoming semester.

The evening was filled with excitement as the Psych Cavorters, Vyxie Cuenco and Christopher Habulan Jr., delivering an energetic intermission dance performance and adding a burst of entertainment to the event. Additionally, Ms. Darlene Mae Barba also showed her talent in spoken poetry titled “Bukas Pa Nga Ba ang Pagbabago.” This powerful piece, which she previously presented at the Tatsulok Competition, resonated deeply with the audience, leaving them inspired and contemplative.

The event featured a series of exciting games organized by the students, including the “Whisper Challenge (Marites),” “Relay Tumpakners,” and the fun-filled “Nag Aano Ako Eh, Ikaw?” These activities brought plenty of laughter and kept students actively engaged. The program was hosted by the dynamic duo from first-year, Ariana Beriso Hufancia and John Vincent Labastida, who kept the energy alive throughout the event.

As the event neared its end, Mr. Zernan P. Dimaiwat, LI.B, MAEd, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, extended a warm welcome to both new and returning Psychology students. CBA Hosts Annual Talk Event to Inspire Business Students and Foster Alumni Connections

On January 23, 2025, the College of Business Administration (CBA) hosted its annual talk for Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) students inside the Auditorium. The event’s titled “OCJMEX Talks Presents: LAUDEStination: Where Are You Now?”

This event is designed to inspire both new and returning students, encouraging them to aim higher—not just academically, but also in preparing for life after graduation.
Keynote speaker Mr. Leandro De Leon opened the event with an inspiring address, sharing his experiences of overcoming challenges and embracing growth. He emphasized the importance of resilience and self-acceptance, advising students to remain positive, even when facing setbacks such as receiving a “dos” (2.0) grade. “Embrace every step of your journey and use it as an opportunity for growth,” said De Leon.

One of its key purposes was to foster a sense of community between current students and alumni, as CBA seeks to maintain strong connections with everyone in its program. The event spotlighted alumni with Latin honors, with Magna Cum Laude graduate Ms. Kyla Teodoro and Cum Laude graduate Mr. Ken Langa delivering video messages to current students. Both alumni shared advice on striving for academic excellence while maintaining a balanced and grounded perspective. Teodoro encouraged students to stay focused on their goals, while Langa emphasized the importance of persistence and believing in oneself.

“LAUDEStination: Where Are You Now?” was more than just an event; it was an opportunity for students to reflect on their academic and personal journeys. The event's theme encouraged participants to assess where they are now and to set goals for their future success, both academically and in their careers. It was a chance to assess how far we’ve come and what steps we need to take to continue evolving.

Ghost of Silent Streets
By Anjela Marielle Valdez

My shadow walks through blurred lights,
Lost in the hum of city nights.
I search for something, but it’s gone—
Like morning chased by endless dawn

The street consumes my silent screams,
I am but a whisper that is lost in dreams.
A nameless blur, no voice—no claim,
Only but a hollow shell remains.

I wear the night like a second skin,
A cloak of sorrow worn too thin.
I’m the tear that never falls,
The ghost that haunts abandoned halls

I follow paths that lead to chains—
And my head twists like knotted veins.
The world’s a canvas drenched in light,
But I’m the shadow that drowned every night.

I wear despair like a crown of thorns—
Like a king that’s cursed, tattered, and worn
A ruler of sorrow, drowning in pain,
My throne is built on shattered dreams.

My sorrow stretches far and wide,
A hollow void where hope has died.
No end in sight, no dawn, no day,
Just endless grey, where I decay

The dark path stretches on—no end in sight,
Only I walk alone, forsaken by light.
In the blur, I disappear,
Forgotten by time, drowned by tears.

Olivarez College—The College of Business Administration (CBA) kicked off the Second Semester with a Departmental Orientation held at the OC Gymnasium on January 17.

The former Chairperson of Business Administration, Mr. Michael B. Caducoy, now the Director of Institutional Planning, Quality Assurance, and Accreditation, gave his heartfelt message to the students: “Embrace the idea of learning because learning is a lifelong process,” symbolizing that learning is a journey rather than a destination, allowing every student to grow as a person.

One of the highlights of the orientation was a game called “GTKY,” or better known as “get-to-know-you,” which provided an opportunity for them to get to know their fellow BSBA students well. It's also their way to reunite and bond together before the reality of the semester starts.

Thus, the departmental orientation was not only about reminding the students of the rules and regulations but also a way to connect with each other and delve deeper into the beauty of studying business programs.

WE'RE NOW ON THE HALFWAY MARK!

Another 300 hours of internship, plus the other half of the requirements, are all part of this racing track. What matters is how you ran the race. This is where all graduating students are encouraged to race like racers, for this is the point of no return, but only to finish and be successful once and for all.

Brace yourselves, folks. This is the last semester of your college life. Ready, set, go!

December 20—The institutional Christmas Party with the theme “The Enchanted Garden” was held at the Olivarez College Quadrangle and attended by administrators, faculty and non-teaching staff of Olivarez College. Highlighting the theme, the majority of the attendees wore extravagant and enchanting outfits along with lively and enthusiastic dance performances that made the holiday night memorable.

To kickstart the celebration, selected faculty and non-faculty, together with the Supreme Student Government, performed an energizing opening number of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Afterwards, the spectacular dance numbers from the institution’s different departments slammed the stage and were made more special by their Mr. and Ms. Santa Clauses. With their unique storytelling and impressive dance coordination, the Student Assistants Society secured their six-year Championship in the competition. The Canteen and Housekeeping Department were awarded the First Runner Up, and the Non-Teaching Staff claimed the Second Runner Up.

Being presented with the runway walk of the Apple of the Eye candidates for the Star of The Night, the majestic voices of the OC Singing Ambassadors, and the dashing dance moves of the OC Street Enomenos, the attendees had a delightful dinner. Portraying the revered spirits of the forest, the Star of the Night was awarded to Mr. Chase Jarred Cuñano from the Marketing Department for Male Category, and Ace Cimini from the Student Assistants for Female Category, who illuminated the night with their festive costumes. On the other hand, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were both won by the Student Assistants Society, namely Cedrick James Baccay and Jessica Segarra.

Hon. Dr. Eric L. Olivarez, EdD, VP for Academics and Services and the City Mayor of Parañaque gave an inspirational message, speaking of the vision of his father in the humble foundation of the Olivarez General Hospital, up to what Olivarez College is today, from competence of its faculty and graduates, growing number of enrollees, up to the institution’s level of accreditation on different courses its offers, as well as on the progress of its new building’s structure and the services it will provide in the future. Expressing his gratitude for a successful year, Dr. Olivarez performed a special dance number for the night. Following the performance, Ms. Evangeline L. Olivarez, MBA, VP for Finance and Administration gave her special Christmas message, expressing her delight in the multitude of the current total employees, as well as in the progress of making the institution a university system – its near future.

John Jacob Sevilla, a first-year Student Assistant, shared his joy in defending the 6-year championship of his department despite joining it for the first time. "Sobrang saya [ko] since sobrang laki ng effort na binigay namin dito so congrats sa ating lahat," he said.
Mr. Renato Protacio, a faculty from the College of Communication, shared his experience with the event, "It was a smooth one, the program was done in an orderly manner," he said. Additionally, he expressed his excitement as he looks forward to the next year in Olivarez College, stating that he’s "looking forward to more activities like this, and more experiences for our students in stations and OJTs.”

Throughout the night, starting from messages and performances, down to dinner and raffle prizes, all the employees are reminded of how grateful the institution is for their contribution to its another successful year, and continue to look forward to more fruitful years.

𝐈𝐔𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄

A Short Christmas Lyric(dodesyllabic quatrain) for the Jubilee Year 2025

Come to us, o dearest King, Priest and Redeemer;
Open our hearts, make it your sanctuary, O Lord
Fill it with your hope of glory, O Consoler;
Our earnest desire be fulfilled in Your accord

Your people have undergone the deepest sorrow
Long before the Bethlehem Nativity morn
Which gave us the light of bright, shining tomorrow
That there was no more reason to lament and mourn

Come to help your people, O Prince of Divine Light
That those for whom you've saved, give us blameless rebirth;
You are constant, holy, fair, eternally bright!
Let Your splendor reach the farthest of all the earth!

You are the Son who became the firstborn of all
Came from the untiring love of our Creator;
The victor worthy to break the seal of the Scroll
Save us, O Lamb, from the Evil captivator!
