Happy New Year from us at the Good Health Cafe! 🎆 The new year also signifies that Alzheimer's Awareness Month is upon us. 🧠

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive decline and memory impairment. It is the most common cause of dementia, affecting over 50 million individuals worldwide. Alzheimer's disease involves the formation of abnormal protein deposits in the brain, leading to the progressive degeneration of brain cells and the disruption of important neurotransmitters. As a consequence, individuals experience difficulties with memory, thinking, and problem-solving. Everyday tasks become increasingly challenging, impacting quality of life.

The impact of Alzheimer's extends beyond the affected individuals, affecting their loved ones as well. Family members and caregivers face significant emotional, physical, and financial burdens in providing care and support, often sacrificing their own well-being. It is crucial to offer support and understanding to those affected by Alzheimer's. This month, we aim to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. 💜 🌍

Let's come together this month and spread awareness about Alzheimer's disease, promoting early detection, research advancements, and compassionate care. Together, we can make a difference! 🙌

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide?

Breast cancer can affect women and, although less commonly, men. It's important to detect and treat breast cancer early, as the chances of successful treatment and recovery are higher when the disease is caught in its early stages. Regular self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms are key to early detection. Treatment options for breast cancer may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, depending on the type and stage of the cancer.

Today is World Sight Day!

This year's theme is "Love Your Eyes at Work." It is important to always use proper eye protection in the workplace when necessary. Accidents happen quickly - prioritize your safety before anything else.

And if you are someone who works in front of screens for many hours in the day, try following the 20-20-20 rule! After 20 minutes of looking at a screen, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This helps reduce eye strain and fatigue, which can affect your productivity significantly.
