In a time where Social Media has taken the world by storm, different types of content are being posted online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some of these posts may be informative or purely for entertainment purposes, but in recent years posts containing negativity, sensitive images, and disinformation have become more common. In this case, media censorship is used in a way to help regulate a safe online environment for everyone. Using media censorship in this way has helped combat and prevent cases of possible cyber bullying, sexism, sexual harassment, racism, and more issues online.

Alpas, a Filipino word which means "to break free", is a student-led advocacy group that seeks to spread awareness about censorship in the media in all its forms. Whether it be in public or private organizations, social media, television, news, or in the violent actions to silence journalists, we cover censorship all over society. A few topics we will be addressing include a brief history on media censorship and how it has changed in the past years, the censorship of media through the silencing of professional journalists, the difference between historical revisionism and media censorship, the censorship and regulation of content posted on social media platforms, and the decline of press freedom due to world leaders suppressing important information in the media. Our team is composed of 5 passionate students who have a calling to expose these topics to their fellow students.
