Itâs frozen waterfall season! This is my favorite hidden waterfall in the Kansas City metro area. Hereâs how to get here:
1ď¸âŁ Drive the northern access road around Cedar Lake in Olathe to the end.
2ď¸âŁ Follow the footpath down the straight part of the lake.
3ď¸âŁ Take the path down the hill before you hit the spillway.
4ď¸âŁ Go left at the first intersection to go to the top of the falls or left to go to the bottom.
Head over to my stories to see the view from the top of the falls.
The gravel road by Cedar Lake is not cleared of snow. We had no issues in my friendâs 4-wheel drive, but be prepared and safe.
SHARE with your adventurous friends who would love to see a frozen waterfall!

This is perfect easy, fun snowy day activity! âď¸ Hereâs how to make them: âŹď¸
âď¸ Add 2 packets of gelatin to 1/2 cup of water, boil until dissolved
âď¸ Let the water sit for one minute
âď¸ Add in 1.5 cups of birdseed, plus a little more until itâs fully absorbed but not dry
âď¸ Press into greased cookie cutters
âď¸ Let them dry! Youâre supposed to wait 8 hours but I am impatient and waited maybe one hour and nothing bad happened đ
âď¸ Pop them out of the cookie cutters and hang them for birdy friends to find and enjoy!
HAPPY WINTER BIRDIES!

If youâre looking for an off-the-beaten-path day trip from Kansas City then head to Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge. Itâs a 1.5 hour drive from KC north toward Omaha. From the 10-mile auto loop you can view hundreds of species of birds and during peak migration seasons up to 400,000 snow geese and 100,000 ducks. Itâs also a great spot to view nesting eagles in the winter. There are multiple places where you can get out and look at the birds.
If you park by the visitorâs center, there are some great hikes through the Loess Hills. They are steep, but worth it for the views. We did the 1 mile Loess Bluffs hike and loved it.

This weekend we rented a campervan from @findyourblue_kc and drove it out to Wilson Lake, Kansas! (Hosted) We had the best time hiking, biking, exploring, and, of course, eating!
@findyourblue_kc made everything so easy! They dropped off the van at our house, put a bike rack on the back, stocked it with everything we needed from towels, blankets, coffee, sâmores, stand up paddle boards, and charge cords to a hot spot! It was seriously the easiest way to camp! Bonus that the van heater kept us cozy at night when there was a freeze warning outside!
The van set up: We decided to drive the campervan and our minivan out to the campsite so we would have room in the camper for 2 beds. This also worked well because my kids had Friday and Monday off school but my husband had to work. My kids and I drove out early Friday and stayed until Monday afternoon to continue our adventures. My husband drove out after work on Friday and back home Sunday night. @findyourblue_kc picked up the campervan from our house. Easy peasy!
My favorite part? Not having to walk to the toilets in the night! There was a potty in the van đ
Thanks to the @thewaltonadventure for this cute idea!
