You've probably already heard that diets with little to no meat are generally healthier than the alternative. Meat products have been linked to increased risk for diseases like cancer and heart disease. On top of that, there are a multitude of concerns with the meat industry, including ethical and environmental concerns. The thought of giving up meat can be daunting and seemingly impossible for those of us who aren't yet vegan or going plant-based on the regs. When there are good reasons to do something though, there is always a will and a way. Here are five simple and important reasons why you should start reducing your meat consumption.

The adage “The customer is always right” has always been contentious, but the principle has probably never been more contested in this post-pandemic world. It’s not news that businesses like restaurants have struggled to make ends meet in these past two years. But as if worrying about rent and salaries aren’t enough, self-entitled and privileged customers add on to the many problems they already face.

Keith Haring famously said that “Art is for everybody,”—a concept senior marketing and exhibition manager Toby Lu takes to heart as he plans River City Bangkok’s events and exhibitions. “Art is not a luxury product that most people cannot reach,” says Lu. “We want to make art tangible and accessible to everyone, especially in Thai society.”

This is precisely why River City Bangkok has so much to offer in terms of its range of art; it's where you can go to see more familiar styles of art, such as paintings and sculptures, but also where you might catch something like the “From Monet to Kandinsky”, a revolutionary immersive digital art experience River City Bangkok brought in a couple of years ago that bridged the gap between the classics and modern culture.

Dr Suchana Chavanich, a Sustainable Ocean Ambassador appointed by AFMA (Agricultural and Food Marketing Association for Asia and the Pacific) affiliated to UN FAO, and recipient of the 2018 Explorer Awards from National Geographic Thailand, gave a talk on the topic “Antarctica - the Last Frontier - and Challenges for Thailand” at a dinner talk hosted by The Future List 100, of which she is a 2022 honoree. She showed a short slide presentation of her trips to the Arctic and Antarctic to about 20 fellow Future Listers and their friends and colleagues. Among the stunning but thought-provoking images was one of a sleuth of polar bears on a grassy cliff. Exciting to see at first glance, it apparently shows show polar bears are being forced to adapt their eating habits, foregoing their favourite meal—seals—for a more vegan diet as a result of the melting ice floes. Their extinction is inevitable, she remarked sadly, and all we can do is delay the inevitable by changing our lifestyle even slightly.

Get to know our speaker at The Future List by Koktail Dinner Talk Series, Khun Sakson Rouypirom. Sakson is a founder of Sati Foundation | Director, Broccoli Revolution & Na Projects Group. He will be speaking about Social Impact through SATI Foundation and Na Café
Medical graduate turned social entrepreneur, Sakson’s experience volunteering with children in remote mountain villages taught him that environmental issues are a major factor affecting their health and way of life, and that all social issues are interrelated. He founded SATI non-profit organization for healthcare education to help at-risk youth and is part-owner of Broccoli Revolution, a plant-based restaurant, as well as Na Café at Bangkok 1899, a collaborative space and social enterprise. He aims to create a circular economy through his non-profit and business units by providing F&B training programmes for at-risk youth to be baristas or chefs, as well as non-formal education, dancing, Muay Thai, photography and English to help build skills and self-confidence as a form of empowerment. He’s proud that he was able to start Covid Relief Bangkok during the pandemic, providing over 1 million meals to those affected by Covid. He hopes to introduce a detained youths training programme, a SATI online platform for at-risk youths, and expand his Na Projects urban refugee and sustainability programmes.
Dinner will be a set menu prepared by Chef Sohal and his family who are urban refugees from Pakistan under Khun Sakson’s care, accompanied by free-flow wines.

Ploenchan Vinyaratn creates a textile masterpiece for QSNCC.
The newly constructed Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre has been the focus of attention as it prepares to host APEC 2022. The venue with Its modern design, incorporating elements of contemporary Thai motifs, replaces the original convention centre that hosted over 20,000 events during its 30-year history.

Taking the spotlight in the foyer of the LG floor are two massive art installations by Thai textile artist Ploenchan “Mook” Vinyaratn. Each piece soars high at 24m x 6.5m, and she says it is her “biggest and most challenging project to date”.
