1. US President Joe Biden on Wednesday said that India, China, Russia and Japan are struggling on the economic front because "they're xenophobic", and "don't want immigrants". Immigrants are what makes us strong," Biden said.

2. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered the immediate termination of 223 employees from the Delhi Commission for Women on Thursday. These were allegedly appointed by the former DCW chairperson, Swati Maliwal, without the necessary permissions, which is a violation of the established rules.

3. Delhi-NCR witnessed an unprecedented situation on Wednesday morning with at least 200 schools receiving an email warning them about a bomb on their premises, leading to widespread panic. Responding to messages from the schools, parents rushed to pick up their wards even as a massive exercise was launched by multiple agencies, including police, fire units and bomb and dog squads, to comb the premises. There was all-round relief when nothing was found at any school by noon but the scale of the event led to unease among parents and dominated conversations around the city. The special cell has begun an investigation after filing an FIR and is trying to trace the sender. The ministry of home affairs and lieutenant governor have asked the police commissioner for a report. Multiple agencies, including National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Cert-IN, have been roped in for the probe. Preliminary findings indicate links leading to China and Pakistan’s ISI with a larger conspiracy for disruption of normal life suspected.

4. India might be becoming more receptive to the concept of permitting Chinese electronics firms to invest in India on a case-by-case basis, easing some of its concerns. Faced with pressure from Indian companies to soften its firm position, the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) recently reached out to Chinese air-conditioner compressor manufacturer Shanghai Highly (Group) Co to inquire about its intended investment strategies in the nation, according to individuals familiar with the situation.

Doctors here said that the court admission now is “no secret” and emphasised that Covid-19 itself is known to increase the danger of clotting, heart attacks and stroke both during and after recovery.

Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, co-chairman of National Indian Medical Association (IMA) Covid Task Force in Kerala, said: “The court admission is nothing new. In fact, these are well documented facts validated since early 2021 (soon after vaccine rollout). The World Health Organisation (WHO) wrote about it in May 2021 and updated in 2023.”

British drugmaker AstraZeneca admitted covid vaccines could cause blood clots but said these were “extremely rare" after more than 50 such cases were reported in the UK in patients administered jabs that had been made by the Serum Institute of India.

The company is facing a class action lawsuit in the UK over allegations its vaccine had caused fatalities and severe injuries in numerous instances. Victims involved in up to 51 cases in the UK High Court are seeking damages totalling up to 100 million pounds.

The vaccine, known by various brand names, including Covishield in India, was developed in the UK and manufactured by SII in India. These vaccines were sold around the world.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday slammed the Congress-led Karnataka government for its inaction against JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna alleged in sexual abuse of women.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Shah asserted that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women and sought to know why the Congress government in Karnataka did not take any action against Revanna.

“Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?” Shah said.

“Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is questioning us, but I want to tell her that instead of asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi or me, she should ask her party’s chief minister,” Shah said.

Iran has launched over 200 drones, ballistic and cruise missiles towards Israel and the attack is "ongoing," an Israeli army spokesman said.
In a separate statement, the Israeli army said that "dozens of surface-to-surface missile launches" were identified approaching Israeli territory, the majority of which were intercepted before they crossed into Israel.

It's time to prepare for what lies ahead: a longer and warmer summer than usual. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recently released a report and issued an advisory warning of above-normal temperatures expected from April to June. This announcement comes after unusually hot weather in February and March.
In the past week alone, maximum temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius were recorded in various regions, including West Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. The mercury soared to 42.6 degrees Celsius in Akola, Maharashtra, and Phalodi, Rajasthan.IMD forecasts a high probability of prolonged heatwave episodes lasting from 10 to 20 days.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has cut the lot size of Nifty 50's derivative contracts by half.

The NSE through a circular issued on April 2 said that Nifty 50's contracts' lot size has been cut from 50 to 25.
Lot sizes of Nifty Financial Services or FINNIFTY has been cut from 40 to 25, and that of Nifty Midcap Select or MIDCPNIFTY has been cut from 75 to 50.
The lot size of contracts of Nifty Bank or BANKNIFTY has been left unchanged at 15.

Gold prices hit a fresh lifetime of Rs 69,487 on Monday, gaining nearly Rs 1,800 per 10 gram in the opening trade, taking cues from international prices as benign US inflation data unleashed the bulls.
At 9:30 am, the MCX April gold futures were trading at Rs 68,930 per 10 grams, up by Rs 1,253 or 1.85% while May silver futures were trading at Rs 75,787 per kg, higher by Rs 739 or 0.98%.

Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev underwent an emergency brain surgery at a private hospital in New Delhi, a statement from the hospital said on Wednesday.

The surgery was carried out on March 17 to remove bleeding in the skull. Sadhguru was weaned off the ventilator post-surgery, the statement from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital said, adding he has shown "steady progress and his brain, body and vital parameters have improved". The 66-year-old spiritual guru is the founder of the Isha Foundation and has launched campaigns like 'Save Soil' and 'Rally for Rivers' for environment conservation.
He had been suffering from severe headaches for the last four weeks. Despite the severity of the pain, he continued with his normal daily schedule and social activities and even conducted the Maha Shivaratri function on March 8, the statement said. The headache worsened by March 15, when he consulted Dr Vinit Suri, the hospital's senior consultant neurologist, over phone, it said.
Suri immediately suspected a subdural haematoma and advised an urgent MRI, it added. The spiritual leader underwent a brain MRI on the same day, and it revealed massive bleeding in the skull.
"There was evidence of a chronic bleed of three to four weeks duration as well as fresh bleeding that had occurred within a duration of 24 to 48 hours," the statement said. Sadhguru was advised immediate hospitalisation and appropriate medication schedule adjustment, but he had important meetings and events scheduled for March 15 and March 16, it said, adding he completed the meetings with the support of pain medication.
On March 17, he developed a decline in his level of consciousness, and weakness in the left leg, and was admitted to the medical facility under the care of Dr Suri. The CT scan revealed a marked increase in brain swelling and a decision was taken to operate, it said. Sadhguru was managed by a team of doctors comprising Dr Vinit Suri, Dr Pranav Kumar, Dr Sudheer Tyagi and Dr S Chatter
