l Bengaluru police has busted a gang of four women who would steal expensive Sarees from various shops. The repeat offenders were arrested from the JP Nagar limits where they were stealing Sarees but alert staffers of the shop stopped and questioned them.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda in a press conference they have recovered 38 silk sarees worth Rs 17.5 lakh from these women.
"The staff of JP Nagar PS have arrested 4 women and recovered 38 silk sarees worth about Rs 17.5 lakhs. These 4 ladies along with the two others had gone to a silk shop in JP Nagar limits and tried to divert the attention of the workers at the shop," he said.

Around 1,500 iPhones valued at approximately Rs 11 crore were stolen from a container truck in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, prompting disciplinary action against several police officers, an official reported on Saturday. The heist allegedly took place after the truck driver was drugged and gagged on August 15, according to statements from the phone transporters, as confirmed by Sagar Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Uikey.
"We are currently investigating the claims regarding the theft of around 1,500 iPhones worth Rs 11 crore. Apple has not yet contacted the police. I'm at the site, about 35 kilometers from the district headquarters, where the truck is being examined," Uikey stated.

l The Supreme Court on Monday heard several petitions challenging the use of bulldozers and demolition actions taken by authorities against the homes of individuals accused of crimes.
During the proceedings, the bench, comprising Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, questioned the legality of demolishing a house solely based on the owner being an accused.
The court asked, "How can house be demolished just because he is accused? Can't be demolished even if he's convict. Even after telling SC Bar is we don't find any change in attitude."
The bench emphasised that while they do not support illegal constructions on roads or other public spaces, any demolition of properties must be carried out in accordance with the law. The court further said that even if a person is a convict, his house can't be demolished without following procedure prescribed by law.

: The much awaited updated Royal Enfield Classic 350 has been launched at 4Aces Retail Pvt. Ltd. Aay Jay tower, Opp. Doordarshan Kendra, Zoo Road in Guwahati. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 unveiled by famous youtuber and social media influencer Dimpu Baruah in presence of Managing Director Mr. Chirag Gupta, COO Shalini Gupta, Soumya Shankar Bhuyan (Regional Business Manager, RBM) and Satish Verma (ASM, Royal Enfield) along with other dignitaries at Zoo Road Showroom. It gets new colour schemes along with added features. No mechanical changes on the motorcycle.
The Royal Enfield Classic 350 gets a few updates for 2024 which include new colour schemes, added features and a slight increase in prices. Prices of the motorcycle now start at ₹ 1.99 lakh and go up to ₹ 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Changes on the motorcycle include a new LED headlight along with new position lights. In terms of added features, the motorcycle gets USB chargers, adjustable clutch and brake levers and a gear position indicator. The Tripper navigation pod is offered on the top variants too.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Chirag Gupta said There are a total of seven new colour schemes across 5 new variants which are Heritage, Heritage Premium, Dark, Signals and Chrome. The Heritage Series comes in two colourways - Madras Red and Jodhpur Blue. The Signals series in Commando Sand brings forth two sides of the spectrum together. Also, there's the Medallion Bronze colour under the Heritage Premium variant.
Royal Enfield Classic 350 Variants and Prices (ex-showroom) are: Heritage (Madras Red, Jodhpur Blue) Rs. 1,99,500/, Heritage Premium (Medallion Bronze) Rs. 2,04,000/, Signals (Commando Sand), Rs. 2,16,000/, Dark (Gun Grey, Stealth Black) Rs. 2,25,000/, and Chrome (Emerald) Rs. 2,30,000/ respectively.
He further said The Dark Series features Gun Grey and Stealth Black paint schemes. Both are offered with a Tripper pod as standard fitment along with adjustable levers and LED indicators. The Emerald paint option gets a regal green colour with copper pinstripes, which harks back to the 1950s.
The motorcycle stays the same mechanically, with it getting the J-series 350 cc single-cylinder engine that makes 20.2 hp at 6,100 rpm along with 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The motorcycle has a claimed efficiency of 41.55 kmpl. The motorcycle now gets dual-channel ABS as standard fitment. There are no changes to the cycle parts, with the bike getting telescopic fork up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The twin-cradle frame stays the same and there's disc brakes at both ends.

The Assam Assembly on Thursday passed a bill to repeal a law to register marriages and divorces of Muslims. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan had on August 22 tabled The Assam Repealing Bill, 2024 in the Assembly to abolish The Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935 and the Assam Repealing Ordinance 2024.
Taking part in the discussion, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said: "Our aim is not only to abolish child marriages, ... also to get away with the Kazi system. We want to bring registration of Muslim marriages and divorces under the government system."
He said that registration of all marriages has to be done as per a Supreme Court order, but the state cannot support a private body like that of Kazis for this purpose.
In a recent announcement, the Passport Seva Portal, the primary online platform for Indian passport services, will be temporarily inaccessible for five days starting today, August 29, 2024. The portal is set to undergo essential technical maintenance, which will disrupt its operations until September 2, 2024.
The authorities have assured that affected applicants will be notified about the new dates for their appointments as soon as the portal is back online and operational.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday extended interim protection from arrest for suspended IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, who is accused of cheating and improperly securing OBC and disability quota benefits, and the hearing on her anticipatory bail plea has been postponed to September 5.
Justice Subramonium Prasad deferred the case after the Delhi Police requested additional time to review Khedkar's rejoinder and submit a fresh status report.
