Jen Tackett live on Kentuckians United
Singing songs and sharing stories.
It’s no secret to anyone I’ve met that I’m very proud of where I come from. Whitesburg and Letcher county are not just where my family lives or where I grew up, it’s much more important than even that. Growing up in a small town where there wasn’t much to do creates a certain sort of angst that it’s you against the world, that you’re somewhere the rest of the world forgot and the only thing you want to do is move away. I always liked music and art as a kid, it was always fascinating to see someone play the piano or guitar in church and I knew at some point I wanted to do that. I went to my first local concert ever at the youth bored in Whitesburg, I learned how to play guitar in the back of the old home town music building by someone I’d always looked up to and I think about him every time I pick up any instrument and think about what he would say if he were here to see it. I attended my first “art showing” at summit city with art from mr Doug Adams. I realize this is quite a long post and if you’ve read this far thank you. I’ve said all this simply to say, there’s nothing that gives me more pride than attending a show here in Lexington and someone asking where the guys are from that’s playing and I get to say “Whitesburg Kentucky”. Especially when they play a set like these guys did last night. Y’all be sure to check out appalachiatari I promise you won’t regret it!
