OUT NOW: KKOT 'Inyan'
Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp etc.
Experimental, abstract and industrial, ‘Inyan’, the upcoming album from composer KKOT is an 11-tracks album that explores the universe of modular synthesizers. Focusing on frequencies, the album has an emptiness that is both compelling and at times uneasy, pushing the boundaries of conventional soundscapes. ‘Inyan’ will be released in October through Aika Recordings.
Marco Ricci is the mastermind behind KKOT, a project that was created in 2018. KKOT now has 8 album releases under his belt, and ‘Inyan’ is next in line. Speaking of the album Ricci states “Every track is a well defined strip in which I concentrate the frequencies. I don't allow any sound to climb over the boundaries, so that they overlap each other creating a wall, a fortress. Every strip stimulates and highlights a specific mood.” Focusing his attention on details of manipulated sound, ‘Inyan’ is almost anti-music. The elements that determine the meaning of music such as structure, melody and rhythm have been completely eradicated to make way for drone sounds, static crackles, the whirring and humming of analog synths, with repetition playing an important role. This sonic landscape leaves the impression that technology itself is breathing, as if detached from human nature.
Much of the album feels like the sound effects of a dystopian movie, so it’s no surprise that much of KKOT’s works belong in art installations and art galleries. ‘Inyan’ requires deep listening, something KKOT purposefully chose to do. Wanting to create a juxtaposition between the calm and the atmospheric, the industrial and distorted, the album takes listeners on a futuristic journey that brings a conscious awareness of their surroundings. KKOT had a vision in mind, to create an emptiness and in the best way possible, ‘Inyan’ has created the perfect void.
