After attending the ‘Panabang Si Kasanyangan’ (Peace Offering Ceremony) at Barangay Mahatallang, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. proceeds to meet with the military officers and personnel of the 64th Infantry ‘Knights’ Batallion (64IB) in the Municipality of Sumisip, Province of Basilan on March 2, 2024.
In his speech, the President expresses his utmost gratitude to the 64IB troops for the progress and stability that are clearly evident in their area of duty, noting this as a clear testament of achieving peace and prosperity for Filipinos living in the Province.
“The progress that you have made.. maganda naman ang mga pangyayari dito at makita natin kaya nga malaking bagay na nakarating ako dito… that is a clear testament of the work that you have been doing… marami na rin tayong nagawa, marami na tayong napagsurrender, ‘yung mga iba ay na-neutralize na ang mga threat sa internal na pinag-uusapan natin,” he states.
The Commander-in-Chief reiterates the importance of keeping the peace, not just in Basilan but in the entire nation, asking the uniformed personnel to not just execute bravery during operations, but always be the peacekeepers and peacemakers of the land.
“That does not mean mission accomplish. We still have some work to do… This is what we have to do now. Kaya sinasabi kapag pinupuntahan ko mga iba’t ibang unit natin. Talaga namang sa nakaraang kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, ang hinihingi natin sa mga sundalo natin ay maging matatapang na war fighters,” the President stresses.
“We also have to be peacemakers and peacekeepers. And that is why it is a continuing process. Hindi lang naman ganun kasimple, at basta natigil ang putukan, kailangan pa rin na tayo ay tumulong sa mga sumama na sa atin,” he adds, noting all the former rebels who decided to surrender and join the government’s normalization efforts.
Likewise, President Marcos Jr. reaffirms his continued support towards the further development of the Province of
“A province that was once tainted by violence and terrorism is now a zone of peace, made possible not by mere military might but more so by a people saying no to violence. This is the kind of peace that we see the dawn of here in Basilan,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized when he visited the Province of Basilan to lead a Peace Offering Ceremony to former rebels who surrendered after years of armed conflict and terrorism in the region.
The President made these remarks after witnessing the destruction of 400 surrendered firearms and distribution of assistance to former members of terrorist groups, where he underscored that Basilan can now be hailed as an epicenter of peace after being considered ground zero of war due to the presence of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces - Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF) and the Abu Sayyaf Group in the Island.
“This is the kind of peace that we are witnessing in Basilan, of various faiths working together, because the people chose not to let diversity be a cause of division, but used it as a source of strength and solidarity,” he conveyed.
“Peace is totally achieved not when the sound of gunfire has ended. It is when the clamor for better lives has been met,” he added.
President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his strong commitment to extend support to the Province as it continues with its efforts in achieving progress and prosperity to all Filipinos residing in Basilan and across the region. He also assured the local government unit (LGU) of Basilan of the Administration’s support in harnessing the Province’s potentials in the sector of food security and agri-fisheries.
“This makes Basilan no longer an island far south, but a very strategic island in the front and center of our national goals… May the hope we feel today sustain what we have already achieved in Basilan, and power us towards a Bagong Pilipinas,” the Commander-in-Chief concluded in his message.
As the Administration continues to expand the highly successful Kadiwa program, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of strengthened cooperation between the national government and local government units (LGUs) in implementing projects that prioritize the welfare and well-being of Filipinos amidst economic challenges in the country.
“Hindi po namin magagawa ito kung hindi tumulong ang LGU. Kaya ito ‘yong magandang pagsasama at pagkakaisa para makipagtulungan para makapagbigay tayo ng tamang presyo para sa ating mga bilihin," remarked President Marcos Jr. as he led the opening of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo in the City of Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
The Chief Executive attributed the success of the Kadiwa program, not only to the participating government agencies, but also to the Filipino sellers who continue to serve as drivers of economic growth in the country through the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“Eto ay pagkakataon para ‘yong mga produkto naman na ginagawa ng lokal ay mabigyan ng merkado para meron silang mapuntahan at ipagbili ang kanilang mga magagandang produkto,” the President said. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to work harder in catering to the needs of small business owners and consumers.
Kadiwa ng Pangulo is a continuation of the successful ‘Kadiwa ng Pasko’ last year, which is geared towards ensuring food commodities are made available to Filipino families and high consumer demand areas. It also aims to provide a venue for local farmers and fishermen to earn more by having a direct farm-to-consumer trade.

“I can say though at madali naman sigurong makita sa nakaraang ilang taon that the Armed Forces has never failed the country and the grateful Philippines knows that,” says President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as he extends the nation’s gratitude for the service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) uniformed personnel during his visit at the Brigadier General Benito N. Ebuen Air Base (BGNEAB) in Lapu-Lapu City on February 27, 2023.
“Kasi ang ating mga sundalo, ang ating mga kawal ay nasa kampo lamang at hindi niyo nakakausap ang mga sibilyan. Ngunit kailangan niyong malaman na bawa’t isa sa kanila ay nauunawaan at nagpapasalamat sa inyo, sa inyong serbisyo, nagpapasalamat sa inyo sa inyong mga naging sakripisyo,” adds the President during his talk to troops.
With the geopolitical situation that the country and the rest of the world are confronting at present, the Commander-in-Chief reminds the Armed Forces that their mission has changed and that they must adjust accordingly.
“But I know in my heart, I know that our men, our officers, our women in the military, we will always stand up, we’ll always stand up to the challenges that the Philippines faces in the best tradition of the military,” he continues.
During his visit, President Marcos Jr. also witnesses the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Provincial Government of Cebu and the Department of National Defense (DND) – AFP regarding the relocation and functional replication of the affected buildings/structures/facilities, including road nets, electric and water facilities of the Central Command (CENTCOM), AFP from its present location at Camp Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City.
Thereafter, he convenes with several AFP commanders where he is given a briefing on the recent accomplishments and other updates in the military, particularly in the Visayas Command (VISCOM).

Remarks by President Biden and President Marcos of the Republic of the Philippines Before Bilateral Meeting
InterContinental Barclay
New York, New York
PRESIDENT BIDEN: Well, Mr. President, welcome to you and your delegation. I — I think I woke you up election night. I called you so late to congratulate you. (Laughter.) But it’s a great victory, and I — and my best to your wife as well.
The relationship between the United States and the Philippines, to state the obvious, has very deep roots. We’ve had some rocky times, but the fact is it’s a critical, critical relationship, from our perspective. I hope you feel the same way.
And we have strong ties, including millions of Filipino Americans who are very proud of their ancestry and desperately want us to continue to have a strong relationship. And our foundations are strong in the U.S.-Philippine alliance, which is of critical importance.
For decades, the alliance has strengthened both of us, I believe. And one of the things I want to talk about today is how we continue to strengthen that and work together on the things that are of greatest concern to you.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivers an arrival statement from a successful State Visit to Canberra, Australia on 28-29 February 2024.
The President underscores that following the visit of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to the Philippines in September last year, both nations have seen an increased tempo in its bilateral engagements that cover various areas of cooperation; the most prominent of which is the two countries’ closer collaboration on defense and security.
He highlights his address to the Parliament of Australia earlier today — the first ever made by a Filipino President — where he conveyed to Australian legislators the crucial role of both their countries as proponents of the rules-based international order.
During his meeting with the Prime Minister, they explored other options to maximize the opportunities under a Strategic Partnership. Three (3) agreements were also cemented by the Philippines with Australia in the fields of maritime cooperation, cyber and critical technology, and the implementation of competition laws.
“Australia remains, and will continue to be, one of our closest friends. In the spirit of bayanihan and mateship, we shall forge ahead in fully maximizing the potentials and the gains from this Strategic Partnership between our two forward-looking, law-abiding maritime states. I look forward to exerting our tireless efforts to attain this vision,” the Chief Executive ends in his message.

“It is with heartfelt gratitude that in order for Filipinos and Australians, in both the private and public sectors who shared their precious time and effort to ensure the success of this visit, thank you all very much as it has been very productive, very constructive and provides us a further landmark in the relations between our two countries,” remarks President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as he raises a toast for the deepening Philippines-Australia relations during a state luncheon hosted by Governor-General David Hurley and Mrs. Linda Hurley at the Government House in Canberra, Australia on February 29, 2024.
“The Philippines and Australia are natural partners. Our shared history, our Strategic Partnership, and the long-standing friendship between Filipinos and Australians at a purely people-to-people level, inspires us to work tirelessly to pursue closer relations and further opportunities for collaboration,” the President states.
“I remain confident and optimistic knowing that we have a like-minded and responsible partner in Australia that shares our positive outlook and is willing, as history has shown, to exert its influence for the benefit of our region and of our people,” President Marcos Jr. ends in his message.
His attendance to the state luncheon, together with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, wraps up his State Visit to Canberra, Australia. Earlier today, the President met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for a bilateral discussion that focused on ways to maximize the enhanced status of relations between the Philippines and Australia.
He also made history for the Philippines as the first Filipino President to ever deliver an address to the Parliament of Australia.
As he returns to Manila today, the President is set to embark on a trip to Melbourne next week to participate at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Australia Special Summit.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines strengthening ties with its Strategic Partner, Australia, when he spoke before its Parliament — the first address ever made by a Philippine President.
The Chief Executive looked back on the two nations’ shared history to contextualize the roles they continue to play in confronting global challenges, including geopolitical polarities and strategic competitions, transformative technologies that can destabilize political and social order, climate change and tectonic shifts that are being felt in the Indo-Pacific.
“It has become crucial for us now to envision the shape, the breadth, and the depth of our Strategic Partnership and how it must move forward as we weather the storms of global volatility… Our two countries have always understood that without the predictability and stability of our rules-based order, our region would not have emerged as the driver of the global economy as it is today,” he remarked, acknowledging Australia not only as an important partner of the Philippines, but of Asia as well and the entire Indo-Pacific community.
As President Marcos Jr. is set to participate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Australia Special Summit in Melbourne next week, he likewise acknowledged Australia’s shared commitment with the people of Southeast Asia. “In Australia, we see not only a strong democracy but an indispensable part of our Pacific community, a permanent stakeholder in the future of Asia, and a reliable supporter of ASEAN Centrality,” he added.
The President further expressed optimism towards the future trajectory of the Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Australia, as reflected by its people linkages. He noted there are almost 35,000 Filipino students pursuing education in their respective endeavors, making them the 5th largest foreign student population in Australia.
On the other hand, there are nearly 30,000 Australians who work and
