Metalworks Bank Holiday Bonanza With Special Guests From 'Shot Through The Heart' To Open
REVIEW OF THE NIGHT by Who Radio
So, how do we start!?
What an awesome night at Underworld on Sunday, 28th May.
Having pre-drinks upstairs at Worlds End, we made our way down the famous steps towards the dimly lit basement that is, of course, called UNDERWORLD.
Being here many times and seeing various bands over the years always brings a smile to our faces. And not only us from Who Radio! Everyone there on the night had a real buzz about weren't disappointed.
Kicking of was the much anticipated SHOT THROUGH THE DARK band. A very tight and well orchestrated unit stimulated the essence of the baying crowd. Straight from the start, the floor was pounding from the jumping of the leather and denim clad audience who were enjoying what was blasting from the speakers. Right from the first song, 'You give love a bad name', you could feel the energy that will flow continuously as they went through their set list.
Hits like.... 'Wild Child' and 'You give love a bad name' was just the tipping point. 'Thunderstruck' and 'I wanna Rock' was the catalyst that was one of the best sets this iconic venue craves. And let me tell you, both the venue and bands like this go hand in hand. Or should I say, being in Camden, a ball and chain marriage!
Not only was we mesmerised by SHOT THROUGH THE HEART, but we was onslaughted, and rightly so by the regular (although with various awesome artists) house band, METALWORKS Fronted as always by The Colonel, STEFF, with his cool demeanour and encouraging manoeuvres that enthrals the essence of the audience.
With the energy of Pete Jean on drums right throughout the night, no wonder he deserves a break for his upcoming fatherhood of twins.
(Well done, and congrats, Pete).
The most awesome bass player, who is known as Gus Macricostas, just oozes the slap plank with distinction. Not many can play like this giant.
And that leaves Matt Pearce (Matt Pearce and the Mutiny). Many we're and are still blown away by his incredible playing prowess. It really didn't faze this Scot who graced the stage with him. And there were some awesome guests that did.
Matt has the ability to galvanise your attention to his playing style. Someone I could watch all day, every day.
Wow!
With tracks like...
'Crazy little thing called love' & 'Mama, I'm coming home' to the most awesome rendition of 'Mr Crawley'.
Not forgetting favourites like, 'Highway to hell' & 'Let there be rock', to 'Whole lotta rosie'
Finishing off with GNRs
'Sweet child of mine' and finally Led Zeppelin's 'Rock and Roll' as what you could call an encore!
The only thing that I was disappointed with was that it ended!
Ears ringing, voice gone through singing my heart out. All participants of the nights event, including the audience, served the purpose I knew I wanted and needed.
Not forgetting SALLY NEWHOUSE, who was ever present with her camera and smile. For she is as important to METALWORKS as Rock is to Roll.
Time to sign off a great event. Until next time.... Let's Rock!
