Taking notes of the big and small wins, making time for deeper connections, journaling and persisting through uncertainty were key lessons for me in 2024.

So much can happen in a year, yet our brains keep telling us that we aren’t enough, we didn’t achieve big enough (insert whatever goal) and didn’t make an impact in the world….

So that’s why I actually enjoyed spending the last two weeks of the year processing the year instead of jumping into goal-setting mode.

I am very excited to step into another year knowing that I am able to achieve big, scary goals, connect to those who I admire, and build community along the way…

If you did a year recap, were you surprised by the evolution?

Hoping you had a lovely Holiday season filled with only the most wonderful things, and very few instances in which family members ask what a podcast is… or asking you if you’re a YouTuber now 😅

Hoping you are having a delightful season and that you are ready to start the year with renewed energy and inspiration!

You may be a little ✨obsessed✨ with your podcast downloads...

But what if I told you that episode consumption rates, more specifically, average episode consumption rates, are the real MVP of your podcast's success?

Yep.

Downloads don't tell the full story. Just because someone hit 'download/ play' doesn't mean they listened to the whole episode.

Think about it:

❓How many times have you started listening to an episode only to pause it half way through because maybe you needed to run off the house, and then completely forgot to continue listening to it?

Suppose you're a business owner who promotes their products and services on their podcast. In that case, consumption rates matter, especially if your final call to action is an important step in the listener journey (to buy from you).

So if you average 500 downloads per episode, but your average consumption rate is around 35%, it means your audience isn't as 'plugged in' into your content as you think. I.e. you only have 175 high-quality vs 325 low-quality downloads.

While some factors like episode length, episode format, world events, or marketing effectiveness can affect performance during specific periods, if you're experiencing a low consumption rate, your podcast content strategy needs to be revised and re-strategized.

Do you know your average episode consumption?

Do you believe in 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunities?

What if I told you that podcasters don't actually need to worry about those because their show allows them to create endless 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunities?

That's right, podcasting has the power to elevate your expertise, visibility, and increase the amount of opportunities that come your way...

I'm breaking down how and why in this week's episode of The Podcast Space... Link in bio or comment 'Episode' for the link!

This remember to buy from your favorite small business, which can and should include your peers, favorite creators, and podcasters.

Even if the only way to support them is by buying through a big retailer/ distributor 🤡, you can use your money to support those you believe in.

I got myself these three fantastic books by the wonderful:

, 'The Secret Power of the Voice: A Journey to Fully Unlock Your Vocal Potential'

Learning to incorporate feedback and being coachable are two key elements of podcast growth and success.

Feedback will come from many places: listeners, guests, your coach... but being willing to *actually listen* and implement the right feedback will enable you to grow or pivot in the right direction if you've been stuck.

This week's episode covers the importance of being coachable to succeed as a podcast host and being humble when identifying blind spots.

Q4 has been a bit of a dumpster fire for a lot of us creators...

The uncertainty of the economy, the climate, civil unrest, war, elections, the rising price of well... everything!

All of these and many more situations make it harder to make progress toward our goals of impact and growth.

But I hope this post reminds you that your power lies in remaining committed to the impact that you want to have in this world.

When podcasters tell me:

'It's so loud and crowded in the online space- is my show really making a difference?'

I respond:

'It is our duty to level out the noise with meaningful messages. We can't complain about the negativity but not support the positive voices who may be a little quieter.'

So while this post is for me as much as it is for you... I ask you to make a pinky promise with me that you'll persevere on your mission to make the world a better place by acting on the things that will move the needle toward the (brighter) future we look forward to 🤙🏻

How many times have you found yourself recording podcast episodes just to 'stay consistent' and not miss a week... even though you're not quite sure they're what you need?

This and a few more more faux pas are the reasons why your show isn't growing - it's not that your show is so unique that standard podcast growth strategies don't work for you.

If you're curious (and have the mental bandwidth for it), check out this week's episode on any podcast platform & YouTube. Or if you'd like, just comment 'episode' and I'll DM you the link!

‘You’ve made me want to go to podcasting events! I get so much FOMO from the way to cover them!’

It’s not the first and certainly won’t be the last time Podcasters tell me that the way that I cover podcast conferences keeps them informed about the news and eager to join the community IRL.

But why do I choose to bring the audience along and let them be part of it if my business doesn’t make $$ off it?

The answer is simple: audience connection and engagement.

As a former journalist I’ve covered and distilled events. As a former social media and online communications professional for nonprofits I’ve worked events. Events can build community but oftentimes the energy, lessons learned and connections are limited to the physical space- but they don’t have to be.

When I launched The Podcast Space in 2020, I knew education, inspiration and resource sharing was going to be a HUGE part of the legacy of the business.

And four years later, I can say that one of the biggest differentiations in the podcast industry has been the way I choose to connect with audiences offline and online.

In fact, it’s not uncommon to have multiple people come to me and thank me for how thoughtful and intentional the way I was covering the conference was by presenting information with a dash of FOMO.

Those people would have likely never engaged with me and the business had I not done that. Those are audiences that could become leads, podcast listeners, or future partners in business.

Every time I choose to give instead of take, that’s a positive action that will change someone’s podcast trajectory.

Legacy comes in micro and macro influence.

Use yours widely in micro ways and you will be amazed at how much and how many you can impact right here and right now.

So much was discussed at last week’s Podcast Movement. And if you missed my live conference coverage, you’ll want to join Thursday’s Instagram LIVE.

As usual, I will be breaking down what was shared + add my strategic view of what’s overhyped, and what you can’t live another minute without.

Will you join?

Vacation mode is over, conference prep mode is on. 📝

I have been pretty silent for the past two weeks:
🤫 No podcast.
🤫 1 Social media post.
🤫 No articles.
🤫 No newsletters.

I normally don’t go silent on here but this time I decided to do it to test what would happen to o my brand and podcast if I took a break from content creation. Here’s what happened:

📊I received endless podcast guest pitches for my podcast,
📊I already received requests to connect ahead of ,
📊I got about 25% of downloads I regularly get on a monthly basis without promoting the podcast a single time
📊 I got 0 client inquiries (granted, it’s summer, not that many podcasters are looking for help in July-Aug)
📊 Got a positive reply from a really exciting brand partnership
📊 Got confirmation that I wasn’t shortlisted to any of the 13 awards I submitted myself for
📊 Got approved to speak for one of the conferences I have been eyeing for years…

But most importantly…

✅I was able to rest my creator brain (not the business owner one, though, that one is contantly running!)

In one week I will be headed to Podcast Movement in DC and will be networking, learning and connecting to other creators in the space. Time is ticking this week.

What about you? Do you unplug during vacation or schedule content while you’re away?

Overworked? Near burnout? Burned out already? We've all been there! 😅

Use these true and tested episode strategies to release content this summer and avoid podfading!

Just like anything in life, podcast listenership ebbs and flows, and so does your energy to podcast.

If you have kids with you this summer, or suddenly your client list filled up (like mine did!), then it may be time to consider a change of plans, and these episode strategies give you just that!

Some of my clients even had a huge increase in listener engagement after using these themed episode series, which made the host extremely happy that they worked smarter, not harder during this period!

But let's also not forget that taking a break could also be an option. Earlier this summer I decided that due to reasons that I explained in the last episode of the season, I was going to turn the podcast into seasons... and the world didn't end - and I will continue to get listener engagement online.

An effective content strategy HELPS you stay top of mind while making the podcast an asset for your business, rather than a liability or a stressor.

So... will you be trying one of these strategies this summer?

My podcast, The Podcast Space, is a Podcast Awards The People's Choice Nominee and I need your support!

As I often mention, self-nominating is important to not only acknowledge the value of the content that you're creating but also to get visibility into the work that you do.

So that's what I did this month. I submitted my podcast - which many of you are a listener of - and I'd love if you could vote for my show on the Best Female Hosted Podcast and Business Podcast Categories - and if you'd like to add it to the People's Choice, I'd be even more grateful!

Please comment 'vote' and I will send you a direct link to register and vote!

As always, thank you for being on that side and making this journey so worthwhile!

Feeling overwhelmed with all the options when you’re starting a podcast is almost a rite of passage for all podcast beginners who are ‘figuring it out’.

Did you also feel overwhelmed when starting your show or was there an awesome resource that gave you the roadmap you needed?

Let’s talk BRANDING.

Branding is the unspoken/spoken communication of your brand’s identity and messaging.

Podcasters either overthink or underthink their show’s branding, however, to create strong online and offline recognition you must understand that it plays a fundamental role in how audiences connect to your show.

Here are the brand identity elements that a podcast needs:

Name
Logo (or cover art)
Graphics and Images
Colors
Typography / Fonts
Tone and Voice
Slogan

But none of this matters if your podcast doesn’t have aligned mission and goals to serve an intentional audience.

You may feel tempted to change up your branding every couple of years but what does that also say about you and your podcast?

But want to know the easiest way to create brand recognition? YOUR FACE.

Even though podcasters can be at times camera shy, we live in a time in which hiding behind the microphone is no longer an option for the average podcaster. Sure, if you have a huge budget and can invest in ads or highly produced content, go ahead, but understand that today people want to connect to the person behind the brand.

And that’s why as the founder, strategist, editor, social media expert, and copywriter for The Podcast Space, I created a brand that relies on the human connection of an authentic self.

Do I love interior design as much as podcasting? Yes, I do. Can I bring you along for the office renovation while teaching you valuable insights into how to create a recording space that looks and sounds good? Yes, I will, because blending those elements and provide content rooted on education and empowerment is what makes my brand recognizable.

So, what do you think about the new color?

🚧 CONSTRUCTION ZONE 🚧

For the past few weeks The Podcast Space’s Headquarters (aka my office 🤣) has been in construction, which as certainly reduced the amount of content that can be created…

As someone who has been obsessed with interior design for most of my life, I’m really excited to bring you along the renovation and what the space will be looking like in the future!

The idea isn’t to make the space incredibly different, but to optimize and improve the situation before - and I’m ohhh so excited to face another hot Texas summer with freshly insulation installed in this office!

From picking a paint color that will make white balance a lot easier, to the reduction of (bad) light reflection on the walls, to optimizing for sound quality, to having a cool shelf (which I will be building from scratch) a ton is being planned over here.

I’m excited to start creating content again in this room and to bring you along in the journey!

“Então e agora, quando é o próximo meet up?”
