A short review of “Blossom” by Brave New World:

After two years of releasing single after single, the north Florida quintet has finally given us a satisfying album, with two tracks previously unreleased. This is a style of post hardcore that is fresh and exciting to me. Now a days we’ll usually get heavy guitars with some breakdowns, screams mixed with singing, and pop forward melodies, but BNW has created a niche in this genre all their own. It reminds me of a more polished version of Anthony Green era Saosin, but with elements of grunge, post-rock, and metalcore thrown in. The vocal melodies are contagiously catchy, the riffs are driving, and the rhythm section is precise and keeps everything in check. Give this album a listen below and make sure to follow BNW for more content updates.

Single Review: "In Fear and Loathing" by With Sails Ahead

With Sails Ahead is a progressive post hardcore band from Tom’s River, New Jersey that combines modern, noodly guitar elements with classic power chord progressions and styles. Their latest single that came out on November 12 last year is called “In Fear and Loathing” and is a fresh take on the sounds of scene staples such as Dance Gavin Dance, Tonight Alive, and Anemoria.

The track has a sudden, explosive opening with powerfully strummed chords and ambient yet overdriven leads with plenty of hammer ons and pull offs. It seamlessly switches over to a more noodly riff in a different time signature and introduces the soaring and commanding vocals of lead singer Sierra Binondo. Fast forward a bit and you’re listening to one of the catchiest post hardcore choruses of the past five years that stops and goes in structure and emotion. What’s super interesting too is that this chorus keeps building on top of itself over and over until it’s resolve after you think it can’t get any more epic stylistically. The bridge is also a desirable feature of this piece, with its fretboard and drum head tapping, precise vocal lines, and overall huge, stretched out sound.

Overall, this is a song that you needed to check out yesterday. It has all the elements that a prog/post hardcore fanatic would go crazy for. Make sure to follow them on their socials below and give the track a few spins.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to close down the website due to the cost and just general stress from trying to turn my hobby into a part time job. It works for some people, but not for me. I’ve found that I enjoy listening, writing down thoughts, and sharing music that deserves to be heard way more than making a few dollars here and there. To those of you that can make that work, I definitely admire you.

This is not the end of every little muse, though. I still want to write about and share local diy bands, but it’ll be on a smaller scale and mostly just posted on this page. If you want to submit your music through here, please do and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Much love,
Taylin

Check out our latest interview with Inconvenience Store! Promised to be an interesting, satisfactory read.

I recently had a chance to talk to Inconvenience Store, an experimental electro-core band from Massachusetts, about their latest album “If I Was a Morgue, No One Would Die,” their musical origins within the genre, and much more.

"...a singer-songwriter that combines soft rock acoustic with folk to create a lovely musical symphony that focuses on classic themes of inner turmoil and love." Check out the newest review for "The Sea I Filled" by Atlas MN below!

In the partially frozen tundra that is Minnesota, there’s an artist who writes heartwarming tunes that could make the coldest of us spring forth with joy and exuberance. His name is Eric Peixoto, otherwise known as Atlas, and he’s a singer-songwriter that combines soft rock acoustic with folk to...

Start your week off the right way with some electronic noisecore from Inconvenience Store! *chef's kiss*

Sometimes I get review requests from new genres that I've never heard of before. They’re a bit of a challenge, but a welcome one, since I get to expand on my musical horizons. It’s always nice to dive into something experimental that doesn’t really “fit the mold,” and you bet this band bre...

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Lucid Lynx is a four piece psychedelic rock band that puts a unique ambient/indie twist on classics from the 60s. On November 13th, they put out their newest single “Traces,” which is a mind warping track that slowly massages your perception of time and space....

Check out our newest review for the eerie sounding post hardcore trio Solaceuk.

Recently, a group called Solace from Bristol, UK put out their latest single “Nothing Was Never Anywhere.” It’s a haunting and experimental take on modern post hardcore, that lurches and twists into the darkest corners of sound as we know it.  NWNA is a slow burn of a song. It’s not som...

We're more than excited to share a review of the newest Have Near single "Fountain Coins." This is a heartfelt emo track that will definitely get you in your feels.

The Denton, Texas four piece indie/emo group known as Have Near put out a new track on October 23rd called “Fountain Coins.” It’s a mellow yet driving song that’s contemplative with its lyrical content and tone selection. It’s about how every person has a unique and different story to tell...

I feel as though pop punk as a genre has been evolving with its sound, taking more and more steps toward progressive tones and song structures and kind of veering away from its punk rock roots. This is definitely the case for the Orlando, Florida group known as Outatime. On October 2nd, they put out

"'Better Than I Was Before You' is a four track EP that teters on the edge of nostalgic mid-2000s emo at times. For the most part, it stays in that Manchester Orchestra meets Locket brand of indie rock, but even dips its toes into some pop punk influence for a fun edge."

Give our newest review for LEVVY a read below, and listen to their fantastic EP while you're at it.

Spirling, massive guitar echoes. Heartfelt, sensual vocal lines. Powerful song structures. These are a few ways that I would describe an alt-indie band from Columbia, South Carolina called Levvy . Over the past two years, they’ve put out a few releases that, rightfully, have turned heads in the lo...

The featured review today is for a UK pop punk band called Nothing At All. They recently put out their debut self-titled EP. Give it a listen below!

There are so many fresh faces popping up in the scene today that deserve your attention, with a large influx of pop-punk/emo bands making a considerable comeback this year. Sure, this market might be a tad oversaturated, but a good album is a good album, even if it’s been repackaged multiple times...

Dive into the sad yet driving emo waters concocted on the newest EP by Common Sage 🌊🍗👩🏼 Give our review for it a read below:

Up north, in the far reaches of New York, resides a 3 (or maybe 4?) piece revival emo band by the name of Common Sage. Regardless of the amount of band members, they do mention on their Bandcamp that it’s “kind of just Julian.” However, the good news is that they recently put out an album on A...

Check out the newest single from Matt Stoll called "If I Lose My Mind." We had nothing but good things to say about this indie/folk banger:

The singer-songwriter from Northport, New York named Matt Stoll recently put out a new single last month called “If I Lose My Mind,” and it’s a thought provoking trip that’s slow and insightful. Stoll has been working hard over the past year, releasing five singles with his signature mix of ...

Some might think that starting a band in the midst of the world collapsing would be foolish. What’s the point? You can’t tour or be around your fans. Well you’re wrong, tacky, and I hate you. Sorry, I get passionate about this topic. Please keep reading.  Anyways, a band can do so much m

"Just slightly north of Michigan, in the cold tundra of Canada, lies the city of Toronto, which is home to a slew of talented athletes, artists, and musicians. Four of these musicians are in a band called Goodbye Arthropods, a progressive ambient/indie rock group that put out two unique singles this year already: 'YATTA' in June, and 'Trapped in an ATM Vestibule' just last month in August that are both part of their upcoming album 'Me, Myself & You.'"

Happy release day to Carvist of Oklahoma City! They just put out a new album today called "Peach Square" that you NEED to check out. Read our review below.

Today, a band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma called Carvist released their new album “Peach Square.” While talking to their main songwriter Alex Carter, he mentioned to me “Most of what I try to do is capture the rawness of 90’s first wave emo and screamo with newer post rock and [shoe]gaze in...
