During a recent interview, I was asked why it is important for me to center Blackness and stories about why the virtual environment poses specific hazards.

I want to share my answer with you, and share a personal story about encountering racism while working from home.

I'm on a content diet.

It's been difficult to focus on wellness in the face of that social media and news in constant eruption. And I've realized that neither of them requires my constant attention. Consumption of these channels can be traumatic.

So I've decided to go on a content diet. I'll be feasting on content that will enable me to clearly articulate issues, and implement new frameworks for working thru them. I'll leverage these resources in the consulting arm of Young, Black & Working from Home.

Here's what I'm reading:
- The Little Book of Race and Restorative Justice: Black Lives Healing, and US Social Transformation by Fania Davis

- White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin Diangelo

- How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram Kendi @ My Home

Mango is one of my favorite summertime snacks. I call it nature's candy.

Here's a recipe for a simple and refreshing mango mandarin mint fruit salad.

Ingredients
- 2-3 ripe mangoes
- 3 mandarin oranges
- 1 mint sprig

Directions
1. Dice mangos into small chunks.
2. Peel and segment mandarins.
3. Finely chop mint leaves (no stem).
4. Mix.
5. Eat this treat in the sunniest part of your home, and radiate your light into the world.

If you feel safe to do so, use this checklist to make specific asks of leadership at your company; including committing to action that demonstrates commitment to Black lives.

If companies can support whales and the polar ice caps, they can support Black lives and justice work. Here's a list of 6 things to ask of your company's leaders.

When a white woman discriminated against me for my Blackness during a video conference, I knew that virtual workplaces weren't safe for Black telecommuters.

The digital realm can't protect Black teleworkers. I was victim to racial discrimination at work online and haven't felt safe since.
