I just tried the new Waves Magma SPRINGS and I have to say it was instant love, let me explain: the GUI offers the most complete variety of springs there is but at the same time it’s the simplest to use in the market, leave alone it isn’t missing any of the usual parameters I look for in a reverb.
The 7 modes sound considerably different between them which covers a lot of ground. Their sound is dense without sounding cheap and it seems to me they didn’t tried to emulate with existing spring plugins in the market, more variety for us!
Finally I will say I’m happy I got it, it reminds me of repeating my old tune “what is Waves waiting for to emulate a contrabass, a Hammond and a Leslie speaker?”

Tip if you don’t have mono button:
Leave panning for last! It’s easy, when you load in a multitrack everything is going to be panned center. Focus on masking (EQ), compression and even reverb; soon you will forget about the stereo field and will start hearing the depth, the punch and the color of the instruments. Then pan everything quickly and enjoy the difference: you will finish faster which is important in mixing and will have less trouble equing and compressing which are the hardest things to hear.

I got to say that all those years that I recommended RBass over MaxxBass I didn’t realize how superior MaxxBass is. Not only it offers a simple compressor that affects the wet signal but it also has Decay which controls the reach of the higher frequencies of the harmonics making it a very effective tone shaping tool. It has a simple mixer where you can control the input signal and separate the original bass from the effect. Once you understand this it’s easy to see that it’s not only more precise but it’s also very simple, perhaps just as simple to use as RBass.

For the fans of the British sound: https://waves.alzt.net/Qy43PA Personally I like J37 Tape for many things, it can tame transients after heavy compression and it can be overload for great guitar tones. For a second I would recommend Reel ADT, it is the most organic vocal doubler you can have! I have made videos about both. For your free choice I would say get Abbey Road Chambers (because you probably have already several plate plugins), it can sound terrific on all sorts of accompanying instruments and do fantastic delay tricks.

Johnny Cash says he usually writes maybe half of a song at one sitting, then goes back to it a second and third time to finish it. “If the song is there it usually doesn’t take me very long to write it,” he concludes. “When I start to write, I write enough so that I’ve secured the idea and don’t forget it. Usually the first lyrics I come up with are always the best and I make sure they are down on paper because I start thinking about other lines and I forget them. I make it a point that, no matter how inconvenient it might be, even if I’m in bed, I get up and get a pen and paper and write it down so I don’t lose it.”

“Well, ‘I Walk the Line’ was a love song, and it had three chords, ‘Ring of Fire’ also had three chords and ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ was an up-tempo rockabilly prison song. I don’t know, there is no set formula, except for the fact that over the years, I have a theme that I remember to remind myself –KISS – keep it simple stupid.”

Anther thing Cash tries to remember is that “the human being has a very delicate sense of like and dislike and listeners have pretty well heard everything. I come on trying not to offend or grate anyone the wrong way.”
