This weekend we are doing the final proof reading for the 2024 Black Lives Matter calendar. It is all assembled and just being polished. Next steps: figuring out pricing and shipping costs, updating the web site, getting it ready for your orders. If you are a previous customer expect a mass email when we are ready for you to order. We love your support. And that young man below is Amarion Hope, one of the unarmed Black children shot by police this year. You will read his story on the February page of the calendar.

Police brutality against Black people is a problem here in Brazil, where 54% of the population claims African ancestry. This large striking painting at Sao Paulo's Pinacoteca Museum shows a Black woman holding a machete to the throat of an officer while he holds a gun to a Black man's head and 2 others hold her at gun point.

Preparing last year's calendar my heart broke when I entered the August data and selected from a half dozen images a sweet depiction of 8 year old Fanta Bility. The 3 police who fired wildly into a crowd leaving a high school football game have now plead guilty to multiple counts of reckless endangerment. But their plea deal dropped the charges of manslaughter.
Reports say the family, who have representation, agreed to this. This is something, but I would not call it justice. Though it will not bring this lovely little girl back, I do hope a wrongful death suit is in the making. For more on this police crime see our 2022 calendar, month of August.

On the first plane I watched the film Breaking, with John Boyega and the late Michael K. Williams. Though the release date was 2022, this film must have been made pre Covid and before Michael K Williams died.

The film tells the story of Brian Brown-Easley who was killed by police in 2017 and who was featured on our Black Lives Matter calendar in that year. A sad but true story, I recommend you watch.

An off duty corrections officer, Dion Middleton, just shot and killed a kid, Raymond Chaluisant (18) for engaging in a neighborhood water fight with a gel pellet gun... a kind of nerf-like water gun. The "gun" is bright orange and grey plastic.

The slight young man who apologized for puking when police were choking him out? A federal judge sentenced ex-Baltimore Police Department Sgt. Keith Gladstone to 21 months in prison Wednesday for his role in planting a BB gun on a man another officer hit with a car eight years ago.

Good morning, supporters.
John has done our final accounting for the year. We sold more that 1200 calendars. Made enough to pay for printing and the website. Had enough left over to send $300 to Fair Fight, the organization founded by Stacy Abrams to combat voter suppression, police brutality and mass incarceration and an additional $100 to her gubernatorial campaign.

I gave away the last 20 or so of the 2022 Black Lives Matter calendar at last Sunday's (Pierce County) National Panhellenic Council's scholarship luncheon.
Thanks to everyone who helped us distribute 1400 calendars this year.
