This week, Adam & Cassie talk with Pastor Afshin Ziafat about helping kids understand other worldviews.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-family-discipleship-podcast/id1581983587?i=1000646862220

Afshin shares his story of growing up in a Muslim home before becoming a Christian in high school. He talks about having to choose to follow Jesus even when it meant his dad disowned him.

We discuss how important it is to teach kids what Christians believe, while also letting them know about other religions and beliefs. This allows kids to better understand and defend their own faith.

The episode covers how to teach about other worldviews respectfully, not just to prove them wrong. Afshin explains how secular worldviews will see traditional values as closed-minded, so parents should prepare kids to face criticism.

Overall, equipping kids to know Christianity and different beliefs allows them to strengthen their convictions and discuss faith without fear.

Afshin Ziafat is the lead pastor and an elder of Providence Church. Afshin serves as a council member for The Gospel Coalition and has written for numerous outlets, including Desiring God.

Afshin received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin. He went on to receive his Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages degree from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He and his wife, Meredith, have three children.

We sat down with , a professor and expert on working with teenagers, and he shares great insights about the unique challenges teenagers face today compared to previous generations.

• Teenagers are dealing with more loneliness, depression, and anxiety than ever before. This is partly because of changes in technology and culture.
• Parents should focus on creating a supportive environment for their teens to grow, not controlling their behavior. Allow them to wrestle with big questions about identity and purpose.
• The church community has an important role in supporting families with teenagers. We need to pray for and invest in the next generation together.

“One of the things that we’re seeing right now is that politics really is not what politics is about right now in American life. It’s about making sure that I belong in my tribal community and prove it by what I think and say about everybody else. Just being freed to a life that is not dominated by that would be the first thing.” -

"Like we've said about discipleship, if you don't do it, the world will. They obviously will form our boys and girls as to what it will look like for them one day to be men and women. And so if we don't have an idea and have it like articulated and are able to think of a pathway to get there, then the world will just take over." -

" If a woman does something better than a man, our culture would call it emasculating, but that shouldn't be emasculating. A man should be able to celebrate a woman doing something better than him. What should be emasculating is if a boy does something better than you, or if you are demonstrating what we would call, even in our culture, childish, you are acting childishly, if you're acting like a child, then that is not something that we consider godly." -

This episode, we're talking about one of the most important questions in family discipleship - what are we aiming for in raising our sons? 🎯

We discuss the difference between boys and men both biologically and socially. While puberty marks a change, it doesn't automatically equal maturity. And while society defines manhood by independence and achievement, true biblical manhood is about putting away childish selfishness and learning to love and serve others. 💪❤️

Jesus is our perfect model of sacrifice, strength, justice and mercy. We can always look to Him as the standard for godly manhood. The goal isn't a certain age or milestone but aiming our boys toward Christ and continued growth in maturity. 🙏
