16 years ago Adele and Amy Winehouse...there is so much integrity in the music from 2008.
I was lucky... my Vav Jungle Pap Rock album went number 1 on electronic college radio, I played a Speakeasy gig for a few years then that every DJ wanted in Winnipeg, toured solo to Quebec and NYC and played 3 times a month.
While some of you had kids and remember VJ as a lounge act in the 90s and working with CBC a fair bit, I was styling at Vault (winnipeg's first ultra high end salon that set a precedent at the time in Winnipeg) the day after late night shows I did as well.
I can't believe what I took on solo, it was fun and exhausting.
Is the scene just as vibrant in the music industry now though? The industry of music dissects...the musicians/creators are the key...sometimes the house falls down. It seems everyone is relying on fast music and making home beats now...is that helpful to your ears or making your body move? Its really obvious on corporate radio that they are churned out and use them as themes and bumpers whereas before plugins and software of every kind, there was a thought and you would carefully choose what you give for this kind of work when I made tunes for cash. It's questionable, in my early music years, I'd get picked on by different people as being the lady who "presses buttons" plus I had an interpretive go go dancer Baba Gigi but we were not into selling s*x and wore lots of polyester because it was selling out. It was my way of being "advanced" and we laughed a lot and with the audience. I'm am proud of that...I also wanted fans to forget about the negative aspects of their lives. To feel free…it certainly doesn’t mean I make pointless sound and have no emotion. I’ve made over 500 songs (about 100 are registered for licensing).
Things do change in good ways though...the indigenous music revolution is blowing me away in particular... listen to CBC Reclaimed and of course CBC Radio: Unreserved...also ICI Musique which seems the most cerebral fm like 2008. What's next?

Pretty times with friends with my DJBeekeeni set last night.
I played local music by the infamous Stereo Total , acts Leaf Rapids, Begonia, Vav Jungle , UKs Buzzcocks and of course, The Halluci Nation and more.
Second DJ event in 2 weeks with a knee scooter at Video Pool Media Arts Centre & (starting to walk and heal daily again☀️). I was joined with the fantastic Cookie Delicious , Crabskull, Lomax and Pablito. Winnipeg’s finest in town, come next time☀️
