Breaking: Gov Nwifuru approves N150,000 Christmas bonus for Ebonyi workers

Civil servants in Ebonyi State, under the payroll of the state government, will smile home with the sum of N150,000 each as 2024 Christmas Bonus.

Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the Christmas Bonus at a banquet organized in honour of the visiting British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever, at the Government House, Abakaliki.

The governor said the gesture is in appreciation of the workers’ commitment to duty and their understanding during the recent strike action ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

“Our workers have shown a lot of commitments and respect to us as a government.

“During the strike action they heeded our appeal because they understood the situation of things and we were most grateful and ready to always dialogue on how to improve their welfare.”

The governor directed that every worker should receive the bonus before close of work on Tuesday next week

World Bank Moves to approve Nigeria’s $500m loan request

International lender, the World Bank, is expected to meet and approve a $500 million loan to Nigeria on Friday to boost rural access and agricultural marketing in the country.

This is according to information obtained from the Washington-based institution on Thursday.

The World Bank is expected to take a decision on the loan request by the Nigerian government on Friday, 13, 2024.

The loan under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project – Scale Up is designed to close the gap between communities and the broader marketplace in Nigeria.

A major prerequisite to partake in the project is that subnationals have a fully functional Roads Fund and Roads Agency with appointed boards and staff and provisions for administrative costs in the state budget.

The document noted, “While the eligibility for state participation under RAAMP required the drafting and placement of Road Fund and Roads Agency bills in the State house of assemblies, the new project would require the states to have a fully functional Roads Fund and Roads Agency with appointed boards and staff, and provision for administrative costs made in the state budget. In addition, RARAs offer an opportunity to foster women’s representation in the transport sector”.

If the loan is approved by the World Bank, this will be the 10th loan project from the institution under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has secured loans worth $6.45 billion from the World Bank in 16 months so far.

Just In: Nnamdi Kanu will soon be released – Reps Deputy Speaker, Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has raised hope that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, will be released.

Kalu said he was fighting to ensure that it happened.

He spoke on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with the South East Legislators Forum.

The lawmakers from the State Houses of Assembly from the South-East, led by the Majority Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Kingsley Ikoro met to discuss issues affecting the region.

Kalu told the lawmakers that high-level underground dialogues with relevant authorities were ongoing to secure Kanu’s release.

According to him: “I am fighting for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to come out. Very soon, it will happen. Please, keep us in your prayers.”

However, Kalu said the result of behind the scene discussions aimed at Kanu’s release would soon be seen.

The Deputy Speaker also advocated for the South East Development Commission (SEDC) in realising its objectives.

He stressed that the government means well for Igbo and Nigerians in general.

Kalu said: “The power of networking is more than money. Unity is power. We hardly recognise our own and we lose a lot of things because of it. We need to end the sit-at-home, people are destroying themselves. We need to come to together. The power of unity, the power of growth is important.

“I want to also commend you for leaving your various Houses of Assembly to come to the Federal House for exposure. It will help you.

“The benefits are many. It will make your legislative activities to be robust. It will help you to speak from the point of knowledge.

“On the proposed zonal public hearing, we will want you to support what we are doing in the process of amending the Constitution. We are thinking of starting in first and second quarter of next year.

GOV SOLUDO YET TO DELIVER AFRICAN DUBAI TAIWAN

Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo the Executive Governor of Anambra State is yet to deliver his campaign promises of making Anambra state African Dubai Taiwan. We voted for Gov Soludo in 2021 with hope that he is going to use his contact to development Anambra state and to attract foreign investors that will foster development in Anambra state and transform it to African Dubai Taiwan.

Another reason why we voted for Gov Chukwuma Soludo in 2021 was because of his professorship in economics, we regarded him as one of the highly intellectual with hope of using his wisdom, skills and knowledge to transform the economy of our dear state.

Few months after his swearing in ,we begin to feel disillusioned as taxes increased, citizens began to feel pains from exploitations of multiple taxation, demolition of business premises and increased in rate of insecurity.

Today Anambra state is on the top five list, of states in Nigeria with high rate of insecurity.

Security of life and prosperity is the primary assignment of every government. Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo has failed woefully in his primary assignment.

It's heartbreaking that Gov Chukwuma Soludo who supposed to perform more than his predecessors are now performing below the average, recently he was ranked as the worst governor in the history of Anambra state.

Just In: I am done – Chidimma Adetshina quits pageantry

Miss Universe runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina, has announced her decision to quit pageantry.

Speaking during a recent interview with Silverbird TV, Adetshina said pageantry has been a traumatic experience for her.

She said she’s quitting for personal reasons and relocating to Nigeria from her estranged country, South Africa.

“Finishing in the top 2 [at the Miss Universe competition] is still a shocker for me… Honestly, I am done. Pageantry was a real traumatic experience for me,” she said.

“People still don’t understand how I felt. There were times when I almost quit during the Miss Universe contest. I’m really done with pageantry. I want to focus on myself and establish who I am. And forward my education as well.”

After finishing as 1st runner-up at the Miss Universe competition, Adetshina was named Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

She won Miss Nigeria after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa contest after she attracted scrutiny over her nationality.

Allow Ifeanyi Ubah’s widow to replace him as Anambra senator, Ndume tells Senate.

Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has appealed to the upper chamber to support Ifeanyi Ubah's widow to replace her late husband as the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

Mr Ndume made the appeal on Tuesday, Nov. 19, during the valedictory session organised by the Senate in honour of the late senator.

Mr Ubah, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), died at the age of 52 in a London hospital after a brief illness in July.

Until his death, Mr Ubah was the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream. Kano South Senator Kawu Sumaila has since been appointed to replace him.

During the valedictory service, Ndume appealed to his colleagues to allow the late Mr Ubah’s widow replace her husband to continue the senator’s legacies.

The Borno senator reminded his colleagues that some deceased senators were succeeded by their wives and relations. He added that others became members of the upper chamber under the influence of their husbands and fathers.

He appealed that this should be extended to Mr Ubah’s widow.

“It happened before. Chuba Okadigbo was a great politician. When he died, years after, his wife, the widow Margery, sitting around here.

“Our first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, came to the Senate by the virtue of the people of Lagos and her husband who is the president who served two terms… They insisted that she should go for third term. In fact, she told me that her dream was to be a pastor.

“Abiru’s father was a great senator in 1979. Right here is Yar’Adua? Everybody knows Yar’Adua (Katsina Central Senator).

“Senator (Iyabo) Obasanjo, if you remember, is the daughter of General Obasanjo. Sitting in front of me is Dafinone, his father, was a great senator,” he said.

Ndume, therefore, appealed to his colleagues to support Mr Ubah’s wife in getting her late husband’s seat.

A lot of people said that Ayamelum Television is trying to blackmail the image of Mr Tony Ifeanya. The truth is that Ayamelum Television does not blackmail anyone, we say things the way they are, we avoid the occasion of proverbs, we call a spade a spade.
