Join us for our monthly secret screen takeover at as we feature films that showcase the magic of music and art. This month we are showing the classic mockumentary - This is Spinal Tap.

“This Is Spinal Tap” is a timeless cult classic that follows the British heavy metal band Spinal Tap. This “documentary” tracks singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), and bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) on a U.S. tour as they tumble through absurd misadventures, rock & roll excess, and the occasional exploding drummer. Filmmaker Marty Di Bergi (Rob Reiner) captures the band’s oblivious incompetence and ludicrous situations, cleverly satirizing the music industry’s excesses.

Custom pre-show starts at 7pm with the film starting at 7:30. Tickets are $5 plus a membership to Chabot’s Secret Screen ($1 a month or $10 per year). Visit the link in our bio to learn more, or grab a membership at the door.

“Smalltown Listening Lounge: The Story behind Our Storytellers – A Night of Music, Inspiration, and Community Connection”

Join us for an inspriational evening at our second-ever Smalltown Listening Lounge, where we delve into the heart and soul of music and storytelling. This isn’t just any music event; it’s a journey through the creative process, a celebration of artistry, and a gathering of community spirits.

Tomorrow night, we we have the privilege to host CLEAN from the Bay Area known Black Excellence Band, sharing a curated selection of songs he wrote and songs that inspired his writing.

This is more than a listening session; it’s a chance to connect with fellow music lovers, engage in rich conversations, and be part of a community that cherishes the power of collective artistry.

Make your mark in Castro Valley by helping design one of its newest commercial spaces!

is partnering up with soon to be with an exciting opportunity!

WHAT: A mural design competition with a cash prize of $1000 for the winner, as well as materials for making the design possible.
WHO: For any students capable of large-scale mural design and ex*****on.
WHEN: Submissions will be due Valentines Day 2/14 (to make it easy to remember) The store’s opening is in March but the project ex*****on can be ongoing.

ABOUT AND OWNER MASON:

Mason grew up in Castro Valley and is an alum of Independent Elementary, Canyon Middle, and Castro Valley High School. After finding success at SF-based clothing brand, Marine Layer, he wanted to come back and establish a space that serves as a love letter to his hometown. Thus, Unincorporated was born. With a logo that pays homage to Castro Valley’s history of being home to one of the largest commercial chicken farms in the country, the clothing designs often reflect little-known signatures of where this town comes from while actively bringing local and broader fashion concepts forward.

Smalltown Society is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant ecosystem where artists and communities come together through our commitment to promoting artistic engagement, building collaborative networks, and deepening roots that ensure that creativity thrives and stories resonate.

As part of this commitment, we are working on launching new programming as well as offering a membership program. We’re currently sending out a 4 min survey to gather info in order to learn how to best serve the community. Would you mind taking a couple mins to fill this out?
