Today, we celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Mr. Eddie Romero.

Romero, a screenwriter, producer, and director, was well-known and acclaimed for his films which tackle Philippine history, politics, and culture, some of which are "Aguila," "Kamakalawa," "Banta ng Kahapon," a 13-part "Noli Me Tangere" series, and "Ganito Kami Noon... Paano Kayo Ngayon?"

He was the quintessential Filipino filmmaker whose life is devoted to the art and commerce of cinema, spanning three generations of filmmakers.

Eddie Romero's contributions to the Philippine film industry will always be remembered.

Aklan's Piña Handloom Weaving celebrates another significant milestone.

The Province of Aklan, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Kalibo and the Aklan Piña Mantra, Inc., proudly hosted the Turn-over Ceremony for the Aklan Piña Handloom Weaving Certificate of UNESCO Inscription to the Representative List of Intagible Cultural Heritage of Humanity held on May 16, 2024, at the Marzon Convention Center in Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan.

The inscription of Aklan Piña Handloom Weaving to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage representative list was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the whole weaving community, our cultural bearers, with the continued support of the Provincial Government of Aklan, Local Government Units, National Agencies, NGOs, and the academe.

The event was graced by the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, Office of the Senator Loren Legarda, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Provincial Government led by Jose Enrique M. Miraflores, Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo together with Ma'am Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members of Aklan, the Local Government Unit of Kalibo led by Vice Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz who also represented Mayor Juris B. Sucro, the Sangguniang Bayan Members of Kalibo, Vice Mayor Patrick Lachica of LGU-Balete, DOST-Aklan, DTI-Aklan, DSWD-Aklan, Other Provincial Department Offices, PHILFIDA, NTFP-EP Philippines, SLT-Aklan, Kalibo Tourism Office, Aklan Tourism Officers Association, Aklan Piña Mantra, Cultural Bearers from all over Aklan, and our Media Partners.
