On this week's programme we feature music from North East Wales - basically the local authority areas of Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Conwy or the former county (1970s - 1990s) of Clwyd. Generally speaking, this is not a predominantly Welsh speaking area (though there are some strongholds of the language) but like most other parts of Wales there have been many artists from the region who have made an impression on the Welsh music scene. Featured artists on this week's programme include Ian Rush, Mynci Nel, The Joy Formidable, Tew Tew Tennau, Mark Robers, Y Trwbz and more. Check out the programme on my Mixcloud page at mixcloud.com/edreid1 or via the WERA web site at wera.fm Listen - On Demand. We're also airing on selected Pacifica network stations notably including Beware! The Radio out of London (https://bewaretheradio.com/) where you can listen to the programme at 2100 on Mondays or 1130 on Wednesdays. Mwynhwch!

This week's programme features tracks from Welsh compilation albums, which have always been an important part of the Welsh music scene. As well as featuring artists who were popular at the time compilations have often featured up and coming artists and for some of these their appearance on a compilation album was their only recorded output. We'll have tracks on this week's programme from Gwacamoli, The Poppies, Y Cryff, Family Dog, Maharishi, Gwenno and more. Check out the programme on my Mixcloud page at mixcloud.com/edreid1 or on the WERA web site at wera.fm - Listen - On Demand. On this week's programme we take another look and have another listen to some recent Welsh singles that have come out over the last two years or so. We're currently receiving quite a few singles and we often feature these on our new music programmes, but after the initial airing I don't always get a chance to play them again. This week we'll play some of the best singles that came out over the last few years that didn't (generally) appear on a subsequent album.Listen via my Mixcloud page at mixcloud.com/edreid1 or via the WERA web site at WERA.fm Listen - On Demand. We're also on selected affiliate stations including this week WHPW in Harpswell, Maine and on Beware! The Radio at 2100 on Mondays and 1130 on Wednesdays.

On this week's programme we feature a track from the new(ish) album by the group Crinc from Bangor - they are one of a new generation of bands who, like some who we featured last week, has music with a strong anti-establishment message with a truly alternative sound. We also feature a large selection of tracks from the collection, including tunes from HMS Morris, Radio Luxembourg, Papur Wal, Fflur Dafydd a'r Barff, Pys Melyn and more. Listen via the WERA web site at wera.fm - Listen - On Demand, and also via our own Mixcloud page at mixcloud.com/edreid1. If you live near a Pacifica Network station (and many community radio stations are members) you may want to ask them to check out and air the programme - diolch yn fawr. There's one station that's picked up all three programmes that I've distributed so far so a big shout out to WHPW in Harpswell, Maine!

20/04/2024

On this week's programme we feature music from Recordiau Ankst Records, which was founded in 1988 and which was one of the leading record labels in Wales for alternative music, including rock, hip hop and electronic based music. The label was at their peak in the 1990s and probably was the second leading label for rock music in Wales during that decade but after management split their activities in 1998their recorded output and influence declined, though several important Welsh artists remained with Ankst (later formally known as Ankstmusic) until the end. Sadly, label cofounder Emyr Glyn Williams, or Emyr Ankst as he was known, died in January 2024 and the label apparently has now come to an end. Featured artists on this special programme include Neil Rosser, Steve Eaves, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Ty Gwydr,Beganifs and the band most associated with the label, Datblygu. Check out the programme via our Mixcloud site at mixcloud.com/edreid1 or (still) via the WERA web site at wera.fm Listen - On Demand. Mwynhwch!

This doesn't mean we'll be on all or even many of them, but hopefully within the next few months many new listeners will be able to hear the programme on a local radio station.
